| It really isn't that common and least with the breeders I know. What is usually done is when a dog/bitch has reached the age of retirement, they are spayed/nuetered and placed in pet homes for the cost of a spay/nueter and teeth cleaning. I'm pretty tight with my pedigrees, their lines were passed down to me and it's my responsibility to protect those lines to insure they don't end up in the hands of every BYBer.

| I don't consider this a bad thing to use a male to improve your bloodline--save a few females and pass him to another breeder to improve their lines. I think it's very wise, and yes some are "special" and will live with me forever. But I think for the Breed it's wise to SHARE the wonderful qualities and improve the breed---you have your ways and I have mine---can't we both be right ?

| Karen I could not agree more - I learned a lot about breeding in the last few years on this site. I learned how many people should not be doing it and how many dogs are exploited unnecessarily for the almighty dollar.

| I am out of this conversation. I think you should start a new thread and discuss it. It's interesting, but should be taken to a different location than here.

| Yup, he's home. I created a new thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...community.html I saw one very minor focal seizure. He's lethargic but in great spirits and still very playful. He's whimpering when I pick him up and I'm not sure why. Doesn't seem like a big deal; not sure if it's pain but I will watch closely.
