Sorry, the person running Retro Doggie Rescue may indeed have a different name. Olga belongs with the Rescue (not sure of her offical title though) and she is the Liver Disease Group owner.

jodi from luvmysissy on here does transport by plane maybe she can help as her hubby is a flight attendant i believe and she is able to get flights to fly pups so they do not have to be crated in cargo

I wanted to add here, because we are seeing alot of AAI cases lately around here, and this is a public forum, so to help others as well I think it is really important to be working with a Neuro Specialist with AAI pups, as they are as fragile as a china doll. There are a lot of factors when dealing with this disease, since we can't see inside them to the damage, or what is on the verge of becoming damage. Some pups are good candidates for corrective surgery, some are not, some are good for the full body cast and some are not, but only a Specialist can guide an owner thru that. One wrong more could cause extremely pain, paralysis or death

I also want to say that there are a good number of reputable rescues that are willing to go above and beyond, as I mentioned, I feel RDR is one of them, but I also want to say that I feel YHR and YTNR are also top notch and one of the best in mind as well. I have seen their rescue pups and stories too, and I know they also do everything and anything to save a life
When I look at a rescue, I want to see them going that extra mile. I want to see them get the pup into the best Vet care, no expense too great, I want to follow the story and see the most heartwarming ending, a happy, healthy pup that goes onto a loving forever home, a home that has been evaluated and every precaution made to make sure the fit is 100% all around I only wish there were more of them, as there are just so many darn sick and unwanted (so sad)

this is correct and neck pain is VERY SERIOUS in this breed and maltese breed so if your dog experiences neck issues get to a neurologist and get xrays ASAP

I have not been really following this thread but has anyone talked to the OP directly or the vet directly? What does the vet say about transporting this dog?

If someone local is picking her up, she really does need to go to a local vet (pref. one of the neuros or an internist) for immediate assessment as to the best course of action. There needs to be a plan in place as to how/if her pain can be managed during the long transport to Michigan. Can her neck be stabilized properly? Can pain be managed properly? Can she be given enough pain meds, despite her Liver Shunt (what can the liver clear?)?

Have you checked if Olga has a local outreach in your area, so Roriee doesn't have to go through a transport? Honestly, I don't think transporting this baby across country is a good idea *at all*. I'm so glad you are getting her help, but I think transporting her will hurt her more.

Ann, you bring up such a good point here. Much care including stabilization and pain management is needed for a safe transport to not hurt her further. I hope this is being considered, as well as alternatives to a long transport. God forbid if they hurt her worse by a long transport.

if Jodi can do it she is extremely knowledgeable as she is friends with vicki and val and jaimie who have aai pups. Jodi is probably the best option in transporting as she lives in michigan, knowledgeable about sick pups, and transports dogs already by air. I am hoping she can do this i just called her and i pm her but not sure of her schedule I will not be on line until tonight or tomorrow so i will be praying this all works out ok

Good point. Roiree's vet should be consulted before any plans to take her on such along trip are finalized.
