| I am surprised at how many people want to immediately blame the vets going only by what the OP had told us and even at that does not appear to be the whole story. We don't really know what the stance was at the vet clinic, or if she even really went. WHAT IF the vets told her there was no hope? JUST MAYBE it was her choice to take the baby home since euthansia would cost her money, even though she said the vet refused. The only time a vet would morally turn away a client would be if that client has stiffed them for money before, and I am sorry they are not there to give away their services. Once the word gets out that they will do that everyone will be asking for it. If you have an established relationship with your vets and they know you and your animals and you pay your bills or even TRY they WILL work with you. All the more reason to be responsible when you have pets and develop those kinds of relationships. Sorry, off my soap box now.

Our regular vets would never turn you away if you are 1)established with them, in that you bring your pets in for routine vaccines, spay/neuter/ heartworm tests etc., and 2) if you pay your bills in a timely manner and/or make an honest effort to do so. They will not donate their services to someone who comes in for an emergency who they are unfamiliar with or someone who has previously stiffed them already. I am not passing judgment on the OP, I am just stressing that there are two sides to the story and we are only hearing one of them. Regardless it is the pet that suffers.

| This is just sad , sad for the OP , sad for poor Molly and even more sad that a human being that went to vetting school to help the well being of a animal could just turn you away and say well, sorry , take your dog home and let it die!! I think that all vets office should have some type of form you have to sign stating that you will pay or they can put a lien on your paycheck, or take post dated checks, or something... I pray I am never in a situation like this , but it is heart wrenching to know that it happens, and how heartless the vet was to not offer a simple pain medication perscription to help ease that poor babys pain.

| Again, I am so sorry for your loss and you remain in my thoughts and prayers. While I wholeheartedly agree that the 'issues' within threads deserve attention and discussion, I wonder if it would not better serve the OP to provide comfort in the thread and maybe initiate a new thread to discuss 'issues'. No offense intended - Just my humble opinion.

I guess we really do still live in the "old days" out here in the middle of no where. I am thanful for that. I would like to say, that I am in no way judging the OP, and if it came across as calling her a liar I do apologize. There have been a lot of people here who feel the vet should have given away his services. Veterinarians pay a lot of money to go to school to learn what they do, and I don't feel they should have to give that away. Their equipment and drugs cost them a lot of money too. Morally or not thier services are worth being paid for. Nobody seems to care that they judge the veterinarians, and they are not here to defend themselves. I am still very sorry for the loss of Molly.

| I dont expect a vet to give away their services. But I think at the very least they could put the pet to sleep humanely and work out a payment plan for that. Thousands of dollars worth of tests and surgery, maybe I could understand them not doing... but not even giving a simple shot to prevent so much suffering? Obviously MONEY has become their number one priority. And I know many vets around here would do exactly what this vet did... just turn me away! ![]() RIP MOLLY! |

| I understand what vets go through, but at the same time, they are going to school to save lives. I am so sorry that this happened to Molly.

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I don't think anyone is expecting vets to give away their services. There is NO reason to deny a payment plan or to deny to put the dog to sleep. it's just inhumane. I thought people became vets to help animals. if I saw an animal come into my office in that condition, I couldn't sleep at night knowing I sent it home to die a horrible death.
