| I'm a new user and i haven't had the time to sit and figure it out. I have a question that hopefully someone will read and refer me to the right direction. My baby girl gave birth on Wed. to 4 pups. All pups are great. My girls health started going down hill 2 days later. Rushed her to emergency. First thought infection, but ruled out with blood and fever results looking good. next day I followed up with vet, blood drawn and she was very anemic. The next morning did a follow up blood work and anemia was worse, we rushed her to Ny animal hospital for transfusion. She resecived the blood was better, but a few hours later got worse. No One has a clue as to what is going on. Signs show infection yet blood work does not confirm it. After ll that fluid accumilated outside chest cavity. checking that out they saw her heart was enlarged. They did an ech which confirmed heart problems on the right side. Fluid was drawn out to relieve pressure. I have been hand feeding pups ever since. Pps are with her at the hospital, because doctors feel its best for them to try to nurse as much as they ca off her. Problem is she is not producing enough milk. They have now said that two of the pups may be showing signed of aspiration because little bubbles come out their nose when that are hand fed. They said that it is a common problem with being hand fed. They also stated their main concern is my girl who is not doing well at all but just a bit stable. Please keep in mind this is just a quick run down of what I have been going through these past few days. THere are details inbetween that I just can't get into writing right now. My focus is ofcourse on my baby.... MY GIRL... She is another daughter to me and I can not handle her going away like this. She does not deserve this. Not in this way... OK..the doctors scared me enough with the fact that the pups may deteriorate also because of being hand fed and not getting the antibodies from mom. I had a though cross my head from a show I had watched on discovery about mothers who will often have a litter the same age and allow pups to feed off them. Is this the best thing I can do to research right now to help my pups survival rather than give up concern for them and only worry about mom? That is basically what the hospital will do if I keep them there. They have basicall scared me to the point saying if I take them it will be worse. Will someone be able to tell me if they had pups drink from another mom? If so ... will anyone be willing to help me out and allow my pups to nurse for a day or two so that they can better survive? I live in NJ. Clifton, NJ. Please as much as I told myself not to post anything critical here just not to have people jumping to different conclusion and turning this into a judgment matter. Before anyone asks, she is 4 . always was healthy never showed signs of heart problems. This is her 2nd litter and yes I have her first litter pup. She went through all necessary medical attention and was deemed heathy to get pregnant. The hospital said there would have been no signs for this to have been prevented. It's just something unfortunate that happens. She is currently in ICU. PLEASE only advice. If I am not responding please know that it is because I am with my girl. I will always appear to be on because I leave my computer on. IT doesn't mean that I am infront of the computer reading replies. Though I will try my best to rad and see if anyone has some advise. I just want to make sure that I spend time with my baby at the hospital.. Thanks in advance. PLease excuse any spelling errors or confusing statements. It is 2 AM and I have been unable to sleep for the last 4 days.. It's hard enough to stop crying and praying for my baby. |

| I am so sorry that you are having this terrible experience. i hope your girl gets better, and the puppies make it. I had to put one of my litters on another mother for a couple lof weeks. The sarrogate mother had just weaned hers, she was not real eager to nurse them but would do it if I sat beside her. But by allowing them to nurse on their own mother, eventually her milk came back. You might want to start a new thread with this, in the breeders section. I wish you luck. |

| Thanks everyone who has tried to help. None of my other babies have ever had this. The vet did tell me about the chances of it being spread. I have seperated her from the others, and cleaned everything. It was the boneless, skinless, chicken breast strips that she ate. It was not breaded at all, I boiled it. She also has ate the ceaser puppy food too. She started eating it last night, and just finished off the last of the little container this morning. She has not went poo since last night. She is peeing alot, but they gave her a shot of fluids yesterday at the vet. I'm hoping that she is peeing more becasue of that. She has had her rabies shot. She is up to date on her shots, I did not have her entire shot record with me. Tonya is suspose to be sending me the rest of it today. She has been breeding Yorkies for a while, just not the Biewer. I am not sure if Haley has a micro-chip. I did not ask, but I will. I thought I would have an awful time getting her to take the pill, but I put it in my hand and told her to eat it, she took it and after playing with it for a min. she ate it. That was last night, we will see about tonight.

. I wondered after I re-read that she was shipped to you I was sure she had her shots...airlines require certain ones with the medical checkup but you need to have these records also so she is not having to be revacinnated.. If she came from Germany I am guessing she has been tattoo'd so look inside her ears or her thigh...but if she can from another country I am not sure. Put the pill in a little bit of cheese or peanut butter if you have problems getting her to take it...it is very important. What is the breeding saying to you about the Giardia? Her knee cap? I talked to a friend last night who said it was important to get this fixed as soon as possible in a young dog..once you get her health under control you should see an orthopedic surgeon for her knee. Does your breeder have a website? I thought maybe I could figure out where the biewers came from? The offer is still open to look at her pedigree if you want? Just PM me.

| Thank you for your help. Tonya does not have a web site. She only has puppies once in a year if that. She is very concerned about Haley. She said that neither of her puppies have ever had that kind of problem. She said that Haley's sister Chole is only her half sister. I think she said they came from Germany, but it was late when I spoke with her. I don't know if she got her directly from Germany or from someone who did. I will have to clarify that. She said that her vet had never said anything about Haley's knee cap. I believe her, because I have known this lady for many years. She is not just trying to sell me a dog. I have wanted her since this past summer when I seen her. I will look to see if she has a tatoo, and find out more info. when I talk to Tonya today. She went poo a few min ago. It looked normal with no blood in it at all. I am home with her today, but I will scan the pedigree tomorrow from work. I did not want to leave her today.

| 1/2 sister then makes a difference on Haley's size. Your breeder needs to watch her dogs because odd's are they have GArdia also. While stress can cause problems it takes a while for it to show up and your little girl had it right away. If I were you I would also want to trace Haley's movement since she left Germany (if that is where she came from) and see who bought her from the breeder here in the states. These are very special little dogs and I am still concerned about her small size. If it true she only weights one pound (please weigh her again) then she would be one of the smallest dogs in the world. Make sure you continue with her meds until gone...Gardia can still come back but maybe not as bad.

| I just went through this as well. My Ava had Giardia and coccidia. It was a real pain to get rid off. We went through 3 rounds to get rid of it and I followed all the instructions about cleaning (with bleach), washing her bedding toys, water/ food bowls all the time, etc. I even wipped her bottom after each poo (I think you may also want to try that as mine tended to have poo stuck to her even though I trimmed her hair). If they have poo stuck to them they can reinfect again. I know many people told me that their dogs would continue to eat while they had Giardia, mine would not eat the whole time she had it. She would not eat nutrical, any food (chicken, rice, I tried it all). The doctor told me I had to keep her eating so I had to feed her prescription AD (wet food from the vet) from a tube. I also would put nutrical in her mouth twice a day to keep her sugar levels up. She finally starting to eat a little stella and chewy's raw freeze dried food. You may want to try that. Also, mine was also only pooping once a day and was not regular at all during the whole process. Now that we are rid of giardia she is eating very well and on a very regular potty schedule. I cannot stress enough how important it is to clean everything as much as possible. (I am sure you do already though). Even though I did this we still had to treat 3 times. The first time the vet gave her Metrodrozinole, the last 2 times we had panacur. I am a new Yorkie mom, so while I am not an expert, I learned a ton about giardia in the last couple of months. All the best to your new baby. |

| She has ate some more Ceasars and went Poo again. I cannot see any blood in it. I do not have scales to weigh her here, but I got on the scales without her, then back on with her and there was a 2lb 6 oz difference. Tonya said that is what she weighed at the vets before she sent her to me. Maybe the scales at the emergency clinic were off.
