| They gave me 1/2 pills of Metronidazole 50 mg. The vet said to give her 1/2 once daily until gone.

I would give her the meds as the vet prescribed..While Gardia can be cured it is very important to understand she can die from it and it can be passed to humans. Did your friend say while she did not have her on parvo or her shots? Did you tell her about the Gardia...her dog could also have it.

| If I am understanding correctly ... they want her to cut the 50 mg pill in half and give her 25 mg per day. I would follow the vets instructions.

I have e-mailed her tonight, but I have not heard back from her. The vet said that her other leg felt fine, but the left knee cap was out of place. Haley does not favor it at all. She jumps and runs like nothing is wrong with her legs. She ate quite a bit of the chicken and rice tonight. She ate a whole chicken breast tender, and almost another one. I took it away from her becasue I did not want her eating too much and getting sick. She is playing right now. She has not acted like she feels bad at all.

When you say chicken tender do you mean with a chicken breast that is breaded? If yes, remove the breading as it can also cause her problems. I am glad to here she is eating. In terms of her knee cap many of these little ones will act like nothing is wrong..it is down the road when the problems set in. A Grade 4 is serious and surgery is in your future for her.

| Give her the 1/2 once a day that the vet has already cut up from the 50 mg.

With regard to the Giardia. Unfortunately, my little one also has Giardia. Her first stool came out fine but her second tested positive. What I will tell you and I've had a few with Giardia (I do rescue) is that NONE of mine were effected to where they would not eat or fear of dihydration. Something else may be going on, such as her age? I have a strong feeling she may be much much younger then what you think. Elaine | |

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | The puppy I am fostering tested negative last Sunday and by Friday she was pooping blood and mucous 6-8 times a day. The shelter retested her Friday and she showed positive for Giardia. She is eating and playing fine but is not gaining any weight. She weighs 3.6 lbs. She is on her 3rd day of Panacur and has only pooped 3 times today. I called my vet as I am afraid my girls are going to get it and she said she didn't want to put them on anything until they showed a sign of having it and then she would put them on Metrodrozinole. She prefers that to Panacur. I hope your little one starts eating and that both of ours can get over this.

| My Lil Man! Donating Member | Hershey (my mini dachshund) had Giardia and he was prescribed with metronidazole as well and it cleared it up. They also treated him for Coccidia as well at the same time just in case and they prescribed Albon for it. Everything cleared right up and he hasnt anymore problems with it. Your lil darling should be fine too! I dont want to gross you out but just be sure you always wash your hands after cleaning up any potty and also if you have just been handling your furbaby alot before you eat or stick your hands in your mouth because we can get giardia...but as long as you use good hygiene you will be fine. I have good hygiene but I still kiss my furbabies alot and I didnt get it so you will fine...I just wanted to point that out...mainly in the event if you have young skin kids! |
