this is because white potato is in that food and it inflames the intestines as it is an inflammatory food -- tylan powder daily is a lower dose of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and many ibd toy breeds do well on it but it is bitter tasting so you have to disguise it or get tiny capsules to fill -- Metronidazole has to be compounded for toy breeds as it comes in a much higher dose. I personally would do probiotics first before using antibiotics then would use tylan then if real bad metronidazole. Food is your culprit

Hi,

Buddy is still having soft stools and he has been on Tylon poweder and had test and treatment of parasites, worms etc. I am not sure what else to do. He is on a senistive stomach presecription food. He does end up chewing off small pieces of his rubber ball and swallows them could that be the problem? I am going to try pumpkin tonight and see if that hardens things up. I am just concerned he is not absorbing enough nutrients and that his anal glands are going to be affected.

Yes it could be the rubber ball. You should take those kinds of toys away.

What kind of toys can I give him. Also what treats would be okay as we are in the process of training so we need something to motivate him. I am just getting very frustrated as he seems fine other than the gurgling stomach and soft stools and the vet can't figure anything out.

I only have plush toys in the house.

They make Rx Dog Treats, either Hills or RC - I can't remember.

When TJ was having this problem, his Folate levels were high (overgrowth of bacteria)....BUT...he also chewed and ate bad things, like the corners of the walls (paint and sheetrock), the corners of the wood stained doors, he ate anything he could find on the floor, and he ate poop. Any one of those things could have been the problem. I had to keep my eye on TJ at all times. It also got to the point that when he was home alone, he was kept in a spare room, that I had to encase the entire room with card board boxes, that I opened and taped together and then wrapped in fabric, so he couldn't chew on the mouldings in the room....gosh, I don't miss those days (LOL)

He has had bloodwork but nothing came up they tested him for pancreatitis. The vet is now putting him on Low residue food and probiotics and then we will see how that goes. I am also giving him pumpkin with each meal. This is very frustrating I just hope we get it under control soon. He seems perfectly fine other than the poop though.

I had the same problem with my Rosco. He was perfectly fine except for his bowel movements. Very muscusy poops and the smell. He has been on antibotics twice. It helped but the problem kept coming back. Thanks to a YT member Dwerten helped me out. Come to find out I was feeding Rosco boiled chicken alot and his dry food had chicken and pot. in it. His tummy can't handle chicken. Thats why he had bad poops. I took him off of chicken and he is doing much better. Sounds like there is a food his tummy can't handle. What does he eat alot of? Take it out of his diet and see if he gets any better.

He is eating RC Gastro formula now but the vet wants to put him on Iams Low-Residue which makes me nervous as Iams isn't the best food. If it helps though I guess that is good. The vet also said to give him some probiotics. Once he has been on that for a couple of weeks they are going to do more tests for liver and pancreas to see if he is absorbing his food. He hasn't lost any weight so I think it is just a food issue, at least that is what I hope it is.

I dont think it's the pancreas; my dog had a bad stomach since i got her and it only got worst; she was admitted twice to the hospital for vomiting blood and was diagnosed with enteritis gastritis; and HGE
she used to vomit a lot ; at least 4 times weekly
after switching her food to the honest kitchen; and adding digestive enzymes and probiotic; she hasn't thrown up ever since and she's acting better. so maybe ur dog has sensitive stomach and u just have to adjust the food; good luck

My dog vomited often much of his early years, then it became lots of foamy blood and passed LOTS of blood when he was two. We had to treat him with pepcid, and feed him rice and ground venison. I used the venison burger that we ground ourselves, then put the cooked rice and ground venison in the blender to make it even smoother. He had a spoonful of plain yogurt a couple times a day. It took a year, but his system finally became normal. His stomach is still sensitive now that he is 7, but he eats normal dry kibble (salmon and rice). He still does not tolerate regular kibble with wheat, although he has a small regular treat now and then.

Hello, My bear bear did the same thing...we did everything and took him to the vet and all test came back normal..very frustrating!... I tried everything!...I finely figured out that 1. he couldn't handle the rawhide chews 2. he has a very sensitive tummy so we put him on a sensitive stomach food and we used baby Imodium to help with the loose stools...3. he can NOT have any human food what so ever! It just messes with his digestion..It can be a saltine cracker and boom he will have loose stools that night...so u just need to watch your puppy and see what sets it off....If all the tests from the vet comes back normal then it is more then likely something with his diet...Imodium became my savior!...That and my carpet cleaner!

you could also use white rice to bind him up as that may work well too. throw the ball away as that is dangerous if chewing off pieces - you do not want a blockage are you using the probiotics i recommended dds plus from vitamin shoppe 30 min before food as this helps dogs with ibd issues

the girgling tummy is inflammatory bowel disease --- is it eukaneuba low residue?

so happy i could help yep chick is not good for ibd dogs per our ims - the protein many times is your culprit with ibd but also you have to stay away from inflammatory foods such as white potato
