do you have an ibd colitis dog ????? My dog almost died of pancreatitis and ibd and this food has worked for 3 years and it was the only thing that worked for my dog so sometimes vet foods are not the worst and they work for some dogs and this is much better than my dog being on steroids for inflammation of the intestines so you have to be careful in scaring others not to use vet foods as sometimes they work and save dogs from drugs and other such things so you cannot discount that and i for one am not the biggest fan of vet foods but having had a year of pure heck to get my dog better and costing me 10,000 this food saved us BIG TIME and i know alot about this disease because of all i have been through. Just because it is a home cooked diet or raw diet does not mean it is for every dog. I personally like honest kitchen but my dog cannot eat any white potato at all and many dog foods have this in it so you cannot discount things that are keeping other dogs off drugs and this diet or the NF diet may save this dog and owner like HA saved my dog as he was on deaths door and for 3 years has had perfect blood work while on this food

Animal Smiley 036 Food Allergy?

Ok, so say she has a food allergy.......she would NOT be allergic to this food? Provided that she DOES have KIDNEY issues as they say......the protein is high on these. So then would I lean more towards PREFERENCE which has 12%?

Are you by chance the one that told me about organic pumpkin? I don't remember who told me. I did find a store in town that carires it. I don't remember how much I'm supposed to give her.

What I really would like to do is just go sit down and cry! I just want her to get better.

you are going to have to be patient as i had to bc if it is colitis causing the diarhea as the diarhea is not caused by kidney issues so that is a whole separate issue going on then colitis takes a while to heal up as it took 30-60 days for my dee dee to clear up completely -- If she were mine this is what i would do as it will not hurt the kidneys and i do this anyway lol -- get organic pumpkin from whole foods and dds plus probiotics as non-dairy and some dogs are lactose intolerant from vitamin shoppe give 2 capsules in am mixed in 1/4 tsp of pumpkin 30 min before breakfast and if you can start tonight before dinner -- I feed twice a day. If too much pumpkin you will cause diarhea as pumpkin is a natural fiber too much then diarhea and a little will firm it up so it helps for diarhea and constipation. I would stick to food vet has recommended then see how it goes for 3 days. When do you go back for blood work? Also give spring water and keep in fridge so it is fresh and cold and change 3-4 times a day if you can as my dogs will only drink it if it is fresh not sitting all day and this will encourage your dog to drink more water so the bun will correct itself. You want to encourage water drinking with kidney if it is an issue. When you go back to the vet do the bile acid testing as you need this test at this point.

Then if probiotics and pumpkin do not work THEN ask the vet for tylan powder which is a very low dose the smallest dose of antibiotic you can get and give daily to calm the intestines as i was given that by internal medicine specialist for dd for colitis if the probiotics did not work as i ALWAYS try natural first. Tylan powder is very bitter so you have to mix with something or get capsules to put it in as dog will not eat food if you put in food and then you may have a prob if they have to eat that food so you have to be careful. A stronger dose of antibiotics is metronidazole and it has to be compounded for toy breeds but that is the next step for diarrhea --

You have three issues here - vomitting, diarrhea and crystals in urine so you have a few things to address and vomitting and diarhea can be alot of things so we are trying to help you rule some things out so you rule out --Giardia, Coccidia, Pancreatitis, Liver Disease, ibd and colitis see how there is alot of things -- Giardia and Coccidia are on fecals. Pancreatitis is a spec cpli, liver is bile acids, -ibd and colitis are food elimination which take longer to diagnose. Urine and culture and bun and creatinine test kidneys. I do not believe kidney issue would make your dog have diarrhea but I may be wrong as i have never had one of mine have crystals in urine but have read alot as on 64 dog groups.

also real important food allergy is if they itch from food and food intolerance is ibd which they get diarhea or vomit from a certain food so it is any food that inflames the intestines like white potato

To clarify. My friend is picking up the organic canned pumpkin tomorrow. VERY hard to find and only one place in town carries it. They were closed all weekend so could not get it then.

I can stop at the vitamin place tomorrow after work, so what do I ask for? DDS PLUS PRO-BIOTICS? I've never heard of any of this stuff so bare with me. I had a cat for 17 years that passed away 15 yrs ago and haven't had a pet until now. So I need to be educated on things. I don't have much money........so I need to take this a step at a time and just not do anything to upset something else in her.

So only 1/4 tsp pumpkin twice daily?

I go back for blood work on the 16th.

Autumn is on Baytril now for 10 days.

On the chem panels I had done, what part of those panels is the Liver Tests, because all are normal.

Default Good sign?

Just did her evening job.........firmer (not moosh) and no blood. So wonder if the Baytril is working or the food (Purina NF)? I know the RX is for her Urinary problem, but they said it might help with the diarrhea.

Hoping something is getting better with her. Guess I'll see tomorrow what happens.

the bile acids are on NOT on the chem panel only ALT is but due to stones have the liver tested as bile acids are a separate test read my last post on how bile acids are done and they did not do this and most vets are not up on liver disease in these two breeds

do the pumpkin and probiotics only once a day to start and do baby steps -- since on baytril give the baytril and wait 2 hrs then do the probiotics with pumpkin as baytril is killing all bacteria good and bad so you need to add the good back in which is what probiotics do -- It is $16.78 for 100 capsules of dds plus -- it is in the refridgerator section -- pumpkin and probiotic will not hurt only will help

Be patient and take one day at a time this breed has alot of health issues so very important that when something is working stick to it and be very basic with diet with this breed

Yes, I realize the bile tests are not on there. I'll see if they even know how to do that test.

I don't recall a refrigeration section at the vitamin store. So what if they don't have that?

That's not going to work.........I leave for work at 7 am. We get up at 6 am.

Autumn is a 2nd Generation pup and is 2/3 Yorkee. She would always have her ears up when little, then now always down. Posted a new picture of her., taken on her B-day in August.

then give before evening meal if you are giving antibiotic in am with food and must be mid meal for antibiotic and 30 min before meal for probiotic -- if you have a place called vitamin shoppe then it will be in fridge section just ask the person for dds plus probiotics

I'm sorry, but I'm confused on this email.

I will feed her around 6 am......15 min later I will give her the antibiotic.

I get home at 4:15..........then give the 1/4 tsp pumpkin with the 2 capsules of pro-biotic 30 min before her evening meal? 2 capsules sounds like a lot.

I leave food for her during the day because if she doesn't eat, she throws up bile.

you give 1/2 her morning food then antibiotic then other 1/2 morning food as antibiotics have to be given with food - then when you get home give her pumpkin with probiotic and 2 capsules is what your dog needs mine is 6lb and that is what she gets - you cannot have too much good bacteria when giving antibiotics

We have just one vitamin place and I know they don't have a refrigeration section, unless in the back somewhere. Is there any other pro-biotic that I can give her?

Autumn weighed in at 4.85 lbs the last time I had her in (few weeks ago).
