| UPDATE !!! I brought Roxi to the vet today, a different doctor this time. I couldn't see a specialist today because I went after work, all the places were closed and also the neurologist is about 1-2 hours away from where I live. I will be going Monday or Tuesday since they are closed on the weekends. I was very pleased with this vet as he seemed to care more about Roxi rather than the first vet who said nothing was wrong with her and all she needed was some rest. This vet said that in her x-ray, her back is fine, but something is clearly going on in her neck/shoulder area. She arches her back so she can relieve the pressure or pain off of her neck/shoulder area. He referred us to a neurologist to get a more in depth analysis to see what is really wrong. There she will get MRI or CT scan and see if surgery is needed. He suggests that the problem is cervical IVDD according to the referral papers. Since this is my first time, could anyone give me an estimate about how much MRI/CT scans cost so I can have some sort of price in mind? I will keep everyone up to date after I see the neurologist sometime this week. I am very very thankful for everyone's concern, advice, suggestions and help. I just joined YT a few days ago to see if I could get some help and didn't expect to get this much love from everyone. You guys are the best! I've included some pictures of her now as she tries to rest comfortably Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. Roxi sends out her love as well |

| My prayers go out to you...please follow the advice given here...if it is AAI a neurosurgeon is what you need. Neuro, because of the spinal cord that is involved. Best of luck to you and Roxi.

| Oh, poor Roxy! She looks pitiful! I don't know what it could be, but Zacchie has Perthe's and he doesn't do that at all. Let us know... And welcome to YT. I hope you find our group helpful.

| Oh my goodness, I just joined YT a couple of days ago and I never expected to get this much love from everyone. Anyways, here's a little update. I couldn't go to any specialists this weekend because I had work and by the time I got off they were all closed. I went to the vet, different doctor this time. Doctor referred me to a neurologist, whom I will be seeing sometime this week. The vet looked at Roxi's x-rays and said everything is fine, but seems to be in pain in her neck/ right shoulder area. Because of that pain, it is causing her to arch her back like in the pictures to relieve the pain off of that area. He doesn't think that it's any disease, just thinks that she may have slipped a disc jumping off the couch or playing too rough with our other dog. He suggested the problem as cervical IVDD, recommended a MRI/CT scan with the neurologist and from there we will see if she needs surgery. So until then, wish us luck! Thank you again to everyone for your concerns, advice, help and suggestions. You all are truly the best and Roxi sends out her love to all of you as well |

| OH I am so glad you updated hon. Please keep little Roxy quiet and crated until you see the Neurologist and as for a MRI the cost is some where between 2000 and 3000. I know it is expensive but AAI can be detected through a digital Xray to save the cost. This is know from a lot of experiance. Stay strong mom you are doing a great job. We are all here for you and if it does end up being AAI I will invite you to my AAI support group. When you go the Neurologist please ask him if this is Atlantoaxial Instability or Atlantoaxial Subluxation. There are a few other names for it also. We all cut it short and all it AAI. Sending you many prayers that you get the information you need hon. Please keep us updated. And thank you so much for the updates.

| Well it sounds like you are on the right track...the neurologist will know what needs to be done next to relieve her pain and make her well again. Know that we really do care and hope for the best possible outcome, a happy, healthy pup. HUGS!!!

| Roxi I know this may be way off the mark, but could the pup be having problems with UTI or kidneys?? I saw somewhere that dogs arched their backs when in renal pain? Hopefully the Vet will clear everything up soon and that little Roxie will be well again. I feel for you having to watch your little one in obvious distress. Get well soon Roxi and Good Luck. |

sounds more like AAI and there are some people on this thread that are very familiar and can help you through this and i think there is a yahoo group for this as well so first get a firm diagnosis and then i recommend joining a yahoo group for that specific illness for more support as well as it always helps when others have been through it to learn from them and they can help you - i know it has helped me with my dogs with health issues to know others have had similar situations. So glad you joined here as there are alot of knowledgeable people - i did not find the groups until my dog was so sick as well so i know how you feel | |

| I saw this in Reesie before she had LP surgery. The vet told us that the inablility to walk properly put a strain on her back and she would arch and even stand on her front feet, like a handstand, just to eat. She would yelp for no reason, and the shivering is a sign of pain. Whatever the cause, Roxi is in pain, but I would have her knees checked first by a COMPETENT orthopedic vet. Reesie's knee problems showed up when she was about the same age as Roxi, but not to the severity that developed later. |

| You have been given such good advise and I am glad you are moving forward to help your baby. Roxy looks so sad, her pictures are heartbreaking so I can just imagine how hard this is for you to see her like this daily. Just wanted to let you know I will keep Roxy in my prayer's and hope she get's diagnosed so she can once again enjoy her life. Hugs to both of you, |
