| I would check around and not just take one vet's word for it. Probably seeing a specialist that could do an MRI on her would be better than x-rays because it would show more about whats going on. Bless her little heart, that is just terrible that poor baby has to suffer like that. At least you are trying to get something done and I just hope and pray you will be lead to the right one that can help her. |

The picture of ROXI resting was the ONLY I DO MEAN ONLY position that BLEU BOY could rest in. That is where he was most careful... With ROXI being 5 months old I think you have caught this early and you should have a successful outcome but I reccommend surgery IMMEDIATELY if she is for sure diagnosed. Please keep me posted and let me know how I may help because I have my heart and soul in the AAI babies.. Hugs to you on this journey so far there are a few of us that have been through exactly what you are going through and we will put you under our wings and help you as much as we can and PS We have all met in person face to face which has been tons of fun. BLEU BOYS case is being taught all over the world to inform vets on AAI. You did not hear of this disease much but now it is getting more and more common. Prayers for you Vicki...

| UPDATE !!! We brought Roxi to the ER because her neurologist appointment wasn't for another few days; I wanted her to be in good hands & get any more help than I could give. There, they helped her get her weight back up (since she lost a lot of weight at home) & improved her eating habits. The doctors first assumed that Roxi had a liver shunt, however ruled that out and suspected that it was Atlantoaxial subluxation. At the neurologists, she confirmed that it was indeed Atlantoaxial subluxation. She said we could either keep her confined in crate or do surgery. However, keeping her confined in a crate may or may not help & doing surgery puts Roxi at a high risk because she is so young, small & could possibly die Sigh, it feels like a lose-lose situation, but I still won't give up hope! I got an estimate of the MRI/surgery & let me tell you, those numbers almost made me pass out. I am just a student in nursing school so money is pretty tight. As for now, Roxi is in conservative treatment/therapy: confined in a crate for 6 weeks & wearing a neck brace to hopefully allow time for fibrous tissue to form & stabilize the vertebrae. She has to sleep on her sides & we have to turn her every 3-4 hours to prevent pressure or bed sores? She is also being hand fed, but is actually eating this time, so that's good news. Again, thanks for all of your concerns. I got a lot of PM's sending prayers & asking about Roxi's condition--sorry it took me a long time to update. I wanted to get all the information so I could update it all at one time. Please continue to pray for us & hope for the best! Hugs, kisses and many many thanks from Roxi & I Last edited by ROXI SUNSHINE; 06-11-2009 at 04:56 PM. |

And poor, poor Roxie! I am SO sorry this was the diagnosis. I completely understand how hard it is to make decisions like this when it comes to our pet's health, and the finances just aren't there. Keep us updated, and we'll keep praying.
