I seriously have never heard of a dog getting THAT sick from Bordatella. I suppose anything is possible, but it is highly unlikely from what I have experienced and read. I have fostered many pups and none of them have had such a reaction from Bordatella. Now...DHPP is another issue. I have seen pups get very sick from them.

Yes, it is viral.....Upper Respiratory...not GI

They can get symptoms of kennel cough/tracheo-bronchitis from it!

I simply said that the common symptoms are not bloody diarrhea. Pancreatitis is a very serious condition!
Here is a link to information about it:

OH YEAH I AM A PRO ON THAT DISEASE AFTER DEALING WITH IT FOR A YEAR - also tied to high triglycerides in a 12 fast which my boy dex has so that is another thing to watch out for a yorkie who shows high 12 fast triglycerides. IBD dogs are prone to this if in small intestines - the plasma transfusion saved his life - he was only 2 the ibd is from white potato intolerance as the white potato is inflammatory which inflamed the small intestines and triggered the pancreas so no white potato in his diet ever again. Also ID by hills that all the vets give out made him relapse and internal medicine specialist we deal with now says NEVER give that to pancreatitis dog yet hills will not take off their list and it has PORK in it

yeah my parents dog was vomitting foam and horrible bloody diarhea after that shot - he has been healthy for 7 years no issues and that was the only thing different also another yorkie on my other group is going through it right now as well - on 64 dog groups and have read over and over never do the bordatella shot always do intranasal if doing it as more reaction to the shots than intranasal. Intranasal lasts only 6 mos and shot last a year but i would never do shot. I personally titer all my dogs and have for 4 years and my groomer comes to house so do not do bordatella anymore - the less the better as my girl dd health issues all started after her vaccinations - her immune system is shot - hypothyroid and horrible atopic dermatitis

In addition to ansewers & comments above:

BooBear just had a littel blood in her poos too. My vet is a very no-nonsense, pragmatic doc (not undereacting but not overreactign to things).

She said not to worry, "just a touch of puppy colitis...", gave us a minute amount of a liquid med called Metronidazole that I use a teeeny dropper with. The metered amount, at .03ml is so little that I just swirled it in nutracal and th Poo-problem cleared up in ONE day :-)

That being said -- my situation might be tad bit different -- I had just had Boo in the ER/ICU for what ended up being very bad naseau & gas, not a blockage. Little girl swallowed a gel cap. Not the insides, just the outside gelatin casing. So she had the test for Pravo, etc. Xrays, Ultrasound then later barium (sp?) contrast. She is fine but I nearly lost my mind last week.

Anyway -- we had 5 different levels of poo-consistency from hard to the runs w/the barium stuff and doc indicated that as poo-poo moves thru baby's little tract the end production will often be looser thant the beginning poop. "...The last drabs w/blood was not surprising and as long as it was not profuse, the meds woudl clear it up".... And they did.

Default Prayer for sick or injured animal

Hope by now you have the answers and your mil's baby is ok.

so... i was a "so inclined...." to pray person and this is prayer i said while Boo was in ER and we were waiting and dying inside.... ( I used to pray for my nuero docs too, that they would be an "instrument of healing").

God, Bless the Animals...
and especially those who are ill or injured.
Reach inside of them
and give them the understanding that
You are their ultimate
Healer and that You will
guide them toward their own
wellness. If there are
human beings that are
helping them in their
healing process, make
sure those people are Your
true instruments, God -
instruments of skill
and of kindness.
Thank You God
for caring for all sick
or injured animals,
always.
Amen

yes colitis is a yellow jelly poop with a little blood in it. My dd had that after she was so messed up on metacam. Tylan powder is the lowest dose for diarhea metronidazole the second lowest dose so they gave us tylan powder but i used probiotics insteas as prefer natural and no more blood in poop - colitis if bad enough can affect small and large intestines and that is when they vomit as well in more severe cases of colitis. Colitis is from stress, from intestinal issues which nsaids like metacam and rimadyl affect the intestinal tract thus can lead to colitis like happened to my dee dee

Default Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis can cause blood in the stool (diarrhea) as well as blood in their vomit. You must withhold food from the dog but ensure the dog is hydrated. The pancreas is ingesting itself and causes severe pain. Get the dog to the vet immediately!

the bright red in stool means it is in the lower intestines - it would be dark red if in small intestines now if vomit is bright red it is small intestines. I dealt with pancreatitis for a year and almost lost my dog to it and he never had blood in stool or in vomit and he was on deaths door. I think they can have the blood in vomit if they break a blood vessel from vomitting so that is possible

I have had pups get blood in their stools from eating grass...a blade of grass can cause bleeding. Once I had one with bleeding and he was one that does not eat grass. I finally figured out it was from sunflower seeds that my bird was tossing out of the cage!
Normally a little bright red blood in the stools is not really serious..I do hope that is the case here.
My mil had given copies of shot records to the vet (this isn't the vet she uses, but is the only place in our town that boards dogs). The dogs were up-to-date on all of their shots. The vet was only supposed to do the bodatella, but IMO she was just greedy and wanted to charge my mil for the other shots.

Thank you so much for the prayers. Our little babies sure mean so much to us. If you never had a dog to love it is hard to understand how a person could have so much love for an animal, but then once you find out how great that love is, you kinda wonder what is wrong with the people who don't have pets.

As my original post states the dog was at the vet while I was typing. I was just wondering if some fellow YT'ers could help ease my mind while I was waiting on word from the vet.

Our little Roxie is doing fine now. The vet thinks it was something the dogs got into, either while being border or shortly thereafter. She was given a shot and had a few tests run just to make sure. Then later that night her brother Gizmo (a shih tzu) had the exact same symptoms, and now they are both back to normal after a couple of days of lying around and resting.

Thanks so much for everyone's replies, and I am so glad it isn't something more serious. Worrying is kinda a hobby of mine, and my babies (skin and fur) give me plenty of time to exercise that hobby
