Did your vet check the protein levels, especially the albumin? My ten year old was diagnosed with IBS a couple years ago and then lymphangtasia last August. He had episodes of chronic throwing up, 20-30 times. What happens is their intestines won't allow the protein from the food to be absorbed back into their system. I am not sure if a 5 month old can even get this; however, it’s worth a test. Lots of prayers sent your way!

I like the theory that she was just so excited to see me. That makes me feel much better. And the yogurt sounds interesting... I think Violet may be lactose intolerant, though. She once had a tiny bit of vanilla ice cream that my mom dropped on the floor, and I'm pretty sure it gave her diarrhea. I have never heard of lymphangtasia. There are so many illnesses I've never heard of in our poor yorkies!! But I did some googling and it looks like intestinal biopsies should turn this up. But I am going to ask if they ever tested albumin levels. They did sooo much bloodwork that I could not possibly keep it all straight. They put all of her medical records online, in a "pet portal" so I have access to them all the time, but I'll just ask rather than try to sort through those - they are getting rather voluminous! I am so excited and have my fingers crossed that Violet will be coming home today!!!

I didn't know that yogurt doesn't have lactose in it! Learn something new every day. I just asked the vet about Violet's albumin levels, which they did test, and they were normal. So that's good news. The vet said that not only did Violet's dinner from last night stay down, but she ate more dog food this morning, and so far so good! I am so excited! Funny how such a little thing like not vomiting has me grinning from ear to ear. Hah. She said that they are no longer feeding her nasally, and that they are going to give her next dose of each medication she is on orally, rather than via injection or IV, so see if she can keep the meds down (she is on an anti-nausea med, 2 antibiotics, and a pain med). If she can keep them down all day, I can pick her up at 8pm! Yay!! The vet also said that Violet has been more perky this morning, and her little tail has been wagging when people go over to visit her. That is the best news of all - I haven't seen her adorable little tail wag in days.

Great news regarding the albumin levels, and I am so glad to hear she is eatting. I hope they can diagnose Violet’s condition and put her on the track to good health, either by medication or diet. However, if you continue to have chronic vomiting issues maybe your vet can give you anti-nausea medication to administer yourself (via needle). When Oscar had his episodes by the time we drove him to the emergency vet, 30-40 minutes had passed - which would mean he vomited 20-30 times. At that point he would then have to be admitted and put in IV. With Oscar his episodes were about every two weeks – so you can imagine the stress on him to be admitted to emergency, as well the cost every time he was admitted. With the needle he would stop vomiting within ten minutes, which meant he only vomited 2-3 times - and spend the rest of the day normally.

Oh, poor Oscar! Was it difficult to give him injections? Did you have to find a vein and all of that? I don't know if I'd be good at that. But it is something to keep in mind. I certainly hope this won't be a long term problem, but there is always that possibility.

Try raw foods!! Hi, My name is Vicki and I have a little yorkie who had almost the exact same problems. I believe with all my heart it is all related to the vaccinations. The one thing I did immediately was switch to raw food. I now go to whole foods and mix his food with vegetables...and he never threw up again. That was over a year ago. We have been to every specialist imaginable, ultrasounds, numerous blood tests, and no one has been able to give a complete diagnosis. Switching to raw foods has not been the answer to everything but has certainly helped with the digestive issues. I also sprinkle prozyme at every feeding and feed two or three times a day. I am happy to talk on the phone with you. Hope this helps...

The first couple I was scared crazy, however, the needle just goes under the skin not in a vein. By the scruff of the neck is where I would put it - pulling the fur up. It definitely was a god sent that needle, I was really happy when the doctor allowed me to take it home. I would look into home-made cooking as well. I think we could have managed Oscar’s disease if we would have put him on a home-made diet sooner. We only did that 5 weeks before his passing. Carson is on EVO and once he is adjusted to his new home (been here 7 days, and he is a year old) I will most likely change him to home-made. You also must never feed people food (table scraps), their tummies are so sensitive. Funny, I feel like I am going to be a much better puppy parent this time. You learn so much the first time, as well this site is an incredible place for information and support (I only joined after Oscar’s passing).

Anyway.....as I said, you can Google or ask your vet about yogurt for dogs. I think you will then say that you truly have learned something new today! I also was resistant when I first heard about it, so I did lots of reading prior to trying it.

| Here are some YT threads about yogurt. One thing that jumped out at me in them is that you must avoid artificial sweeteners...I would not give them anyway, but thought I should mention it. If you do a search for yogurt on YT you will see many more threads on the topic! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yorkie-health-diet/161611-quick-yogurt-question.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-question.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...85-yogurt.html
