I'm so sorry to hear about your little Olive.
My Suri is almost 7 months old and just under 2 pounds, and they won't spay her because she is smaller.

I'm in shock with you about Olive, and am so terribly sorry this happened... I can't imagine how you must be feeling. But try to remember that Olive knew that you were trying to do what was best for her... You couldn't have seen this coming. I know people have talked about it, but I've never actually heard of it happening. Don't blame yourself. God bless lil' Olive.

I am so, so very sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet, little Olive!

I don't remember Lexi's exact weight, but I think she was just under or just over three pounds, and I had her spayed right on her 6 month birthday. I, too, had read enough about making sure they are spayed before their first heat, so I did that, trying to do the best for her. I did question whether or not she was too small, but then, she was never supposed to get much bigger. The tiniest Yorkies will never reach 3 pounds at all! Then, what to do?

I cried when I left Lexi at the vet, as I was so worried. What has happened to you is what we all fear greatly. I wish I could take your pain away. I can't even imagine how much it hurts...

Please remember that you made the choice you did because you believed it was the best. You loved Olive, and you showed it. What happened may have had nothing to do with her weight. There are some things that happen that we just can't understand.

Thinking of you and sweet Olive...

I just wanted to offer my condolences. I am so sad for you. I have to get Missy spayed and I'm so worried about it. I haven't set up the appt yet because she is only 17 weeks old and 2 lbs. Reading about Olive has gotten me even more uptight about going through with the spay. I will have to research more.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Spaying is not a bad thing, there are definite benefits. However, I think the important thing is to determine WHEN is the best time for your individual puppy, as determined by: her age, her weight, her overall health, etc. Do not be pressured by your vet, just because they say "6 months old is our policy" or whatever. Vets should know that you cannot make a blanket policy on living creatures! Every puppy is different. Please do not rush, and wait until your baby is over 3 lbs if possible, 4lbs even. This is something you cannot do over if something goes wrong ----this I know. God bless your little one and keep her safe.

I am so sorry about your baby What horrible news and I can't imagine the pain you are going through right now.
My Nadia was a little over a year when we spayed her and had the puppy teeth removed. She hadn't come into heat yet. Somtimes when they are smaller it takes them longer, but really you never know for sure what can happen.

Txgurl06, my heart is with you too. We are sisters in experiencing this nightmare together.

Several of you have asked me about pictures of little Olive. I made an album with pics of her, and Violet (her older sister), and some of our furball family.

It was the first I've looked at pictures of Olive since she died, and it was like a knife piercing my heart. I have a terrible headache from crying. But as painful as it is, it was also cathartic to look as some of her pictures again. Oh my little sweetheart, Olive. Mumma loves you so much, and I wish I could kiss you and hold you again. I can still imagine how you smell. I love you so much, my little angel.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of little Olive. Thanks to my YT family for your prayers and support. I love you all.

I just saw the pictures in your album; both Violet and Olive are so beautiful. I've thought of you losing Olive many times today, and continue to send prayers of comfort and healing to you and your family. It is just so very sad and unfair to lose your furbaby so young, while trying to do something good for her.

Keep coming back here to check in and get more hugs whenever you can. Many of us have lost a pet, and even those who haven't share in your heart ache. It takes a very long time to get thru this, and replace the tears with smiles from sweet memories of your baby.

you are right we do share this. I hope not to share it with anyone else though! That morning i got to the vets office a little early and i had to wait for the vet to open. So skoshi and me just sat in the car and i took a couple of pics of him. I dont know y i did it he just looked so cute. I had the worst feeling to and i cried the whole night before , that morning all the way there and after i dropped him off. I wanted to just say forget it but i didnt because i believed it was truly the right thing. It was sooo hard when i walked into the vet and i just wanted it to be a dream but instead out they came with his little body in a pastic bag. I ran outside crying! this may sound weird but when we got home and i got the courage i could not stand to see him in the bags, so i ripped them open and just sat there and petted him for the longest time. I remember talking to him asking him to just please open his eyes and be okay. I also told him how sorry i was for leaving him and that i hoped he wasnt mad. that may seem weird to yall but when yall go through it you will understand. I started a new job that night and had no choice but to go to work but my dad made him a casket and my family buried him. Time does ease the pain. We still constantly talk about skoshi and remember him in our home. Sometimes i slip up and will call my other boy skoshi. You really have to work with yourself to heal your pain and know that its not your fault. Even today i feel like i could have done something and i feel so bad but its not healthy to be like that and you got to just live with no regrets and know you were trying to help her. skoshi was my first yorkie and will never be forgotten and we went through hell getting him just to have him taken away! you will never forget olive but try to heal.

I am so sorry for you. And can only begin to imagine how you must feel. This makes me feel a little scared and nervous about Molly being spayed; as she is 3lbs and 41/2 months old now. I think I will wait until she's at least 6 months old, if not older.
