| Throwing up blood? This morning Milo threw up three times and each time it was bright red blood. I rushed him to the emergency vet and they have taken xrays, but see nothing but gas and "something granular" in his stomach. He has energy and seems like his usual self and has not vomited again since he's been at the vet. The vet seems as perplexed as I do. They want to give him fluids and continue to watch for vomiting but don't have any other clues as to what might be happening. Nothing has changed in his diet, and as far as I know, he hasn't gotten into anything. Has anyone here had anything like this happen? Sometimes the advice I get on this forum is better than the answers I get from the vet. |

| Has he been stepped on, fell or jumped from a high place? Maybe an internal injury? Did they look to see if anything was punctured in the xray? I am sure they did. Maybe they could check again or get an xray from a different angle. Did he swallow anything like a piece of a toy or poison? Maybe powder laundry detergent? I pray your baby will be alright. I am going through the same thing right now

| Nope, not that we can think of. They have three views on the xray and his stomach is empty, no sign of an obstruction. He would not have had access to laundry detergent or any toxics. Thanks for the prayers, I will say some for your baby too. |

| Have they spoken about pancreatitis? Has the dog gotten into anything different? Been fed any people food? What does he eat?

| We've had chronic stomach problems for years, but we finally figured out he was allergic to beef and since then (about a year) he hasn't been sick. He's a very picky eater and now eats a combination of Purina Beneful (I know, it's terrible, but it's one of the only foods he will eat) and ZiwiPeak Venison. We have to blend them because the venison alone is too rich. We have discussed pancreatitis in the past, but they never mentioned throwing up blood as a symptom. When he was sick before, he threw up mostly yellow bile. |

| I hope he feels better soon ! I have not ever dealt with this, and hoping that the vet can find out what is causing the vomiting blood.

| A food allergy usually shows up with itching, diarrhea and even bloody diarrhea, but vomiting blood is a bit different. He must have found something to swallow that caused this or maybe an injury. I hope the problem is found soon poor baby.

| I am so sorry to hear this, and glad you took him to the vet promptly. I'm only guessing here, but wondering if he could have chewed up something glass (a piece of broken ornament, or something like that) or bone; thinking that the granular stuff may be bits of sharp stuff making his stomach bleed. Did they give anything to coat his stomach or to help him pass whatever is in there? Oh, and did they do a stool sample for additional clues? Good luck, and keep us posted.

| Im sending good wishes for your baby. I had a similar thing happen with my Yorkie mix this summer. Out of the blue one day after I came home from work, she had a couple episodes of diarrhea...then she vomited, then she vomited a large amount of red blood. I was almost hysterical and rushed her to the emergency vet. They did the same things you described, xrays, and couldnt find anything wrong. They gave her a bolus of fluid just in case and an antibiotic but she had no more diarrhea or vomiting at all and seemed just fine afterwards. We never did find out what it was. |

| UPDATE -- Thank you all for your kinds words and prayers. The radiologist looked at Milo's xrays yesterday and said they recommended an ultrasound to see what the "material" was in his stomach as it seemed abnormal and did not appear to be food. We did one yesterday and it only confirmed what the xray showed -- a lot of "material". They are wondering if he got a squirrel and had a snack (which he has done before) or maybe something else in the yard. They do not see any punctures or tears or anything else abnormal so that is good. It sounds like this is a one time thing and not something more serious. He has not vomited since he's been at the vet and it looks like I can bring him home this morning. I'm just waiting for them to call. It's so strange not to have him at home, I can wait to see him and get some Milo kisses! I also want to say a special thanks to Cindy (Chattiesmom). We got one of her NapSak's for Christmas, and Milo has it with him at the hospital so I know he at least has a little piece of home with him. |

| Doe s the vet think he will be able to pass this "material" ? It is not an obstruction? I am wondering why they are not going to do anything more for him ? I hope he will be ok.

| They say his intestines are moving so they think he will either pass it or his intestines will break it down and process it. It doesn't appear to be an obstruction. |
