| That is odd that they shouldn't be given sweet potato because of the fiber content. Dogs with pancreatitis problems should usually be on moderate to high fiber diets. Marci, how many times a day is Layla fed?

| That's good. To regulate glucose, she should be fed less more often. Two larger meals is probably not okay.

| no she never eats a "large" meal.. lol... she snacks in the morning because she sleeps most of the morning.. then she might have a small meal around 2, 4, and then again around 8ish (when she is POOPED out from all the running she does in the house... she's a night time nut!) And then she gets her before bed snack. |

| I can tell you that Sissy eats just twice a day. Yogurt is breakfast (about a tablespoon) and The Honest Kitchen is dinner (1/4 cup). That is it except for the occasional Ziwi Peak treat or bite of banana. Quinoa is an ingredient in The Honest Kitchen Thrive formula. I know Layla is a picky eater, but I currently have Thrive, Embark and Force formulas from THK. Would you like me to send you some samples??????

Smaller meals are probably better than large ones but the main thing it to make sure she is eating every little while so that her glucose stays stable (from what Google has to say), probably because of the diabetes concern with pancreatitis.

| No Longer a Member | Oh Marci I am so sorry to hear Layla is going thru this. When Giz had it the first time I Basicly knew nothing about the whole "watch the fat" thing. I thought I was spoiling him making his own hamburger patties and leting him eat what I ate. I almost killed him. When he left the hospital we were given carafate to coat his tummy before he ate and they gave him cans of Hill's i/d. He really didn't care for it. That's when I learned back then about making him the chicken and rice, which he had no problem with. In the past couple of years he has had only one other attack, along with one bout of HGE. I am very careful to read everything about his food before I feed it to him. He has been on Chicken Soup for a couple of years and doing great with it. I steer clear of the Beggin Strips that he loved. Have found some peanut butter doggie biscuits at the feed store that you can buy by the pound..I swear he would kill for one of them. I give him a scrambled egg on sundays and the occasional pieces of apple. Can't really go with a nutritionist but this has worked for us. This can be managed. I can promise that from now on you will be in the Poo Whatchers Club from now on. I swear my neighbors think I am nuts bending over to check out Gizmo's "business" .Prayers for Layla and for you that you will soon find what works best just for her. Please keep us updated on her progress. Will be thinking about you both. |

| Marci, I forgot to tell you that when the vet was talking about further pancreas testing and possibly lowering the fat in Ellie's diet yesterday, she didn't say we had to go to prescription food...

To break things up for her (she is REALLY not crazy about fish) she is getting oatmeal with about 1/5 of an egg and non fat yogurt- but i really want her to eat the fish so i'm trying to find something non fat to put on top to make it a bit more appealing for her... any thoughts? | |
