unless they are truly sick it is much better to wait until 6 months old as i have now learned it is to risky and even worse for a sick pup who may not be able to recover and not have a shunt

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry for your tragic loss. I have a MVD dog and after going thru all that I said I would only get a puppy that had been BA tested. Well I decided that after reading so much on here that I was better making sure I got my next puppy/dog from a reputable breeder. So that's what I did. I also had no idea how hard the test is on our babies. Thank you for letting us nonbreeders know exactly what can go wrong and how hardit is on them.

thank you you knew how i felt about teaser and yes my heart is broken but if there is something for all to learn than i feel is was not in vain to raise him until 12 week's and than just gone in the night i feel so horrible i watched his passing and i can't even start to go threw what i experenced at the vet's it was a living night mare and i know he never even stood a chance to understand what was happening even with all they tried to do it was just not meant to be everyone was crying in the vet's office they had taken care of him with exams and such since birth life sometimes is not to be understood

| test I have never tested a Yorkie under 6 months and never will, with one EXCEPTION..if it was sick and we suppected a liver problem...if that prevented anyone from wanting to own one of my puppies, so be it..they could go somewhere else... Rose, I am so very sorry for your loss...I am also so very leery of a vet who would suggest fasting a A-sympotmatic litter of puppies, some under 2 pounds..and then drawing the amount of blood needed for a BA.. Simply make a contract stating you will pay for a 6 month BA test and you will refund the puppy cost if it has a shunt..they can keep the puppy. PS.... I only fast a 3 to 4 pound adult for 6 hrs before a dental or S/N etc... |

i can not blame my vet she did not want to do it i blame myself i do now know what can happen with this kind of testing on pups the only bright side is i know they are clear at this point and time but who knows as an adult dog i agree under 6 months it just not a thing to do and for the people who want the tiny guys that are only 2 pound as an adult watch what you ask for because they are still not safe at that size for testing

If the pup isn't eating anything, it needs to be determined why, especially if there are other symptoms. Some Yorkies are also spayed or neutered at 16 weeks (which I would NOT do) and that has got to be harder on them than a blood test. It depends on the individual dog and whatever you do, you need to trust your vet.

| I'm so sorry Rose. I know you're your heartbroken over this. I'm angry that people jump on a bandwagon and come down on breeders for not testing and this happens. We breeders try to do our best with our puppies and when so many are screaming testing, it puts alot of pressure on us. I'm very sorry. Susan |

| test Don't blame yourself Rose...I have made mistakes in breeding areas and wish I could undo the results...your heart was in the right place as you were trying to do the best for all involved, your breeding program, puppies and new owners... All we can do it learn from it... |
