I believe all yorkies should be bile acid tested at some point (not before they can handle it) because there are many yorkies that are being diagnosed later and could have been getting the help they needed early on. My deepest condolences...How old were the puppies? I am so sorry to read about your loss... You must be absolutely heartbroken.

Now, myself as a breeder I just make sure my adults that are going to be bred are the ones tested completely! I, myself, would never BAT a puppy before 6 months of age. I do have a health guarantee for liver shunt and other genetic health issues except for LP (which is for 1 year with it being a grade 4 and not from injury) for 3 years and I stand behind my breeding program. If a puppy buyer wants BAT's run I strongly suggest it being done at 6 months of age and not before. With this being said I hope it will help in some way and my prayers are certainly with you! I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm really sorry this has happened to you. I was not aware that people were recommending this be done on puppies. Most of the threads I've read were suggesting you ask breeders if the tests had been performed, but this was referring to the dam and sire's testing, or as we layman say, the parent's of the puppy. I'm actually kind of surprised your vet even did the test since it can't be determined at this age. I know you must feel awful, and I hope your post clears up the confusion others are having with this. Best wishes.

| Please don't blame yourself. You had the best of intentions. You had no idea it would turn out like it did. Didn't the vet realize that was too much blood to be taken from so small a puppy?? I think HE should have known better.

my bad and my girl was over 2 pounds and she did not fair well either but today she seem's more like herself beating up her brother's the reason for this post is to allow everyone to know what can go wrong and the stress it put's on a pup i have never tested this young but it has been a hard lesson for me to learn and with anything experience is a lessoned learned of what not to do | |

| I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I too took all 7 of my puppies at 9 weeks to have them tested. I did not have a BAT though as after discussion with my vet we decided that a liver enzyme blood panel at that age would be better. I to question whether I will ever do it again. One of my puppies bled so much after they drew the blood I though he was going to bleed to death. And for those who think it is not hard on the puppies watching the vet and his assistant trying to hold them still to draw blood from their juggler vein was awful. I had my adults tested also and offer a guarantee. I may not ever do it again. I now have 4 beautiful males who have all been tested with tons of money into their breeding and I can't sell them. It is funny how people want or expect all the extra special care and testing done, but when it comes to buying a puppy they want one for $500. I see alot of posts here with people talking about having all puppies tested and I too was trying to do the right thing. Again I am so sorry for your loss. I know your heart is really hurting! Bless his little heart he is playing with all the others at rainbow bridge! |
