| Thank you so much for putting this information out there. My new puppy has been very sick with seizures so I had to have her BAT tested to try and diagnosis the problem. She only weighed 1.3lbs. I wasn't at the vets with her when they tested her but did see the huge bruise it left on her neck. I didn't realize they had to take that much blood. Although, her BAT came back "normal" she is on meds for seizures. But, this may explain why she is so scared now and will not let us pick her up. Poor baby. I am so sorry about your loss. |

| BANNED! | Rose you loss has helped so many people. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know Teaser is greatful that your sharing this story to help educate so many others. His death (bless his heart) will be remembered by alot of people who he now educates. Ty for turning this terrible tragedy into a blessing to many! I personally don't recommend BAT testing on a healthy puppy and surely wouldn't test one under 6 mths of age unless they showed symptoms. If the adults are tested and the puppies show no symptoms I don't see the need for unnecessary tests on such a young puppy. I do agree with Yorkierose. |

| Rose, I feel SO badly for you. Here you are trying to do the right thing and this happens. I cannot imagine what you must be going through. I am one who encourages BAT because of what happened to me. I thought I had a reputable breeder and that was all that was needed. My dog showed no signs until 1 1/2 years old and had I caught it sooner, maybe we wouldn't be hitting the HUGE vet bills (out of control how big they are getting) and had him go through so many horrible things that he has gone through. I have since met others who have tested dogs with NO signs and found that they did have it and hopfully can prevent the HUGE bills we are encountering. This is HORRIBLE what you went through. HORRIBLE! and brings to light other problems with testing and at what age we should do it. I so wish that this didn't happen to you. My condolences to you. It is an eye opener for all of us and I thank you for posting your story. |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found this interesting site that offers some good vaccine info I haven't ran across before. http://www.angelfire.com/biz/froghol...accBlanco.html This is a subject I'm very interested in and the more research I do, the more I'm convinced we're doing much harm to our dogs and their future pups. I've also found that vaccines that are packaged in multi-dose vials have preservatives in them that can be harmful. Even if you do your own vaccinations, by law a vet must administer the rabies shot and this would be a vaccine that is packaged in multi-dose vials. Though it's just my own opinion, at this time I'm getting a gut feeling that many conditions (even some that are suspected to be genetic) that we see in dogs are the result of vaccines and/or over-vaccinations. On a related note, I was re-reading through The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog by Ann Seranne and saw that she recommends giving a bitch a booster of DHL before breeding if she hasn't been vaccinated in the last 6 months. I don't agree with this at all. I'm not trying to slam MS. Seranne as the book has a copyright of 1980 and maybe at that time it seemed like a good idea. However, since this book is considered a must-have by many breeders, I wonder how many have followed this advice in the past and are we now seeing the results of this in the many health problems in some dogs. I'm not trying to 'stir the pot' with this post but it has got me wondering if these things are related. I realize there is no direct link yet proven or even a broad concensus; I'm just trying to connect the dots. I'd like to hear the thoughts on this from some of you on this subject.

| Yorkshire Terrier puppies should not be tested until they are 12 to 14 weeks old and if they are really tiny then just do the post test or wait until they grow a bit........I feel bad for your loss and how old were these pups.....I had a tiny one but kept her longer and tested her at 16 weeks and she passed fine and lives in Indiana with Vicci Doyle of yorkieland list.........a 12 hour fast is hard enough on these pups but a tiny it is just something that you wait until they grow a bit.......tinies should never be placed until they are at least 16 weeks any way and anyone wanting a tiny will wait that long.....once again I am very sorry for your loss, it is very heartbreaking Gloria MacLeod President of the TSFMLS fund In memory of Terri Shumsky Please bile acid test your puppies |

| i am sooo sorry for your loss i dont know what the right answer is to the testing for ls or mvd, i know for me i will test any futrue yorkies i get between the ages of 6 months to 1 year depending on weight ect..... only because i want to know asap if i need to change their diet. having a dog with mvd i am so thankful to know we caught it before she was a year old so her liver wouldnt be damaged anymore. i do not think the testing should be the breeders responsibility to do before they leave their first home. a refund cost could maybe go back to the new parents to help cover the large bills. i know i would never want to replace lacey with a different dog she is a part of our family but even half back on her would have helped us out.
