To Test Puppies Think About It 2 Attachment(s) TESTING DO YOU REALLY WANT TO TEST A PUP -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR THOSE THAT THINK THAT TESTING SMALL PUPS FOR LIVER SHUNT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO well i took my babies in to be tested and i was in the room with them first taking blood from the jugler was awful fasting just as bad!!!!!!!!! taking 3cc from a 1.8 pound puppy uncalled for now my result's well everyone passed with flying colors lesson to learn i lost my teaser he just never bounced back from the amount of blood taken and the stress of the test he passed away tuesday my heart is broken as we were going to keep him 2nd my little girl came home yesterday we almost lost her as well but she is doing better how can people expect testing done on such small babies they just do not know what the out come can be so now i have a vet bill way over 1000 dollars i lost a pup almost lost a 2nd one held shot's off so they would not interfear with the testing i try so hard to do thing right but from now on it will be up to the buyers to test unless they want a 6 month old puppy never ever again will i put puppy's threw this i blame myself for trying to do the right thing i am just venting here i am angry i have a very good vet who is very passionate about animals and she said she would never do it again unless they are sick and it is a half to that pups this age and size are just to small for this kind of test on the higher note the other 2 boy's are ok at this time but we are giving special vitiams to boost blood building back and watching them all very carefully and waiting on the necropsy on teaser to see if we can figure out what went wrong HE WAS JUST TO SMALL FOR THE STRESS so how can we please the public with wanting puppies tested but risking loosing them at the same time i feel as this is a no win problem is this what being a good upstanding breeder has come to? this is my girl she has poodle legs after three days in the vet's on iv's to help her build back rip my little teaser i will surley miss you |
I am so sorry for your loss . You are in my thoughts . |
My heart goes out to you. I pray your other puppy bounces back from the testing. As long as mom and dad have been tested there really isn't a need to test the puppies, they are too young to go thru that. R.I.P little Teaser.:littleang:rip: |
I AGREE but there is a few people on this site that tell's people not to buy a puppy unless testing has been done on puppies that is kind of a double message both parent's have been tested clear and i was trying to make sure there was no throw back any where in the lines so how do you please buyer's that want puppies tested to even if parent's are clear? because even if parents are clear it does not mean a pup will not crop up with shunt |
I'm so sorry.:( I don't think that a breeder needs to test all pups as long as the parents were tested, especially if the vet doesn't think it is healthy for them. It is also not necessary for a dog to be faster for a BAT. Instead of fasting them for 12 hours, they can just be ready for their next meal then draw blood, have them eat and draw again two hours later. The test may not be accurate until 6 months anyway. I probably used to think that testing pups was a good idea but I really don't think it's necessary now because it should be redone at 6 months anyway and if it could hurt them, it just isn't worth it. |

I am so sorry for the loss of your little Teaser. :cry8: Hope your others recover quickly. I would definitely not be testing puppies again. It is not worth the risk and not accurate at that age anyway. |
i am so sorry for your loss. hopefully your story shared with help other breeders in making the right decisions.. |

you have over 4000 post how many have you seen scream a select few that say never buy a pup unless tested myself as a breeder never wanted to sell someone a pup on the off chance it could have a shunt chalk this up to a very hard lessoned learned and to those that have never bred or have never lived what i just did quit screaming sometimes right turns up very wrong thank's lil bit it was not the fasting that got teaser it was his size and to much blood taken |
rip little teaser Rose I feel so terrible for you.. my heart breaks.. I too am so sick of people coming on these forums and telling new people not to buy a puppy unless it is tested.. this is so really wrong of them..most do not breed.. and for the most part they have never walked the walk and it is so easy to talk when it is not your babies that your testing.. and fearing losing them. I have to say it makes me angry when newbies come on asking for help in what to look for and that is the first and foremost suggestion made.. when a vet knows you and knows your dogs.. and knows they are healthy.. and says why test a perfectly healthy dog that has delivered healthy babies.. then you listen to your vet who knows you.. not the people that believe they know what is to be.. this just breaks my heart.. I was one of the people that would have loved to have added teaser to my breeding program.. I know this has not only cost you in monies but more importantly .....emotionally!!!!!! the feeling you listened to the wrong people just to feel you were doing the right thing..your a good breeder and you need to listen to the right people on these issues.. and you need not be intimidated by what some like to stress how and what needs to be done.. I am sure many breeders and people looking into getting a new yorkie puppy have learned a lot by your posting.. for that I want to thank you. I know this must have been a hard post to write.. but losing teaser may just have saved many other puppies lives.. rip teaser.. I wanted to love you so much.. I think part of me did.. I also want to add..their are other ways to make a buyer know you stand behind the puppies you sell... anne |
thank you so much he was a wonderful little boy he was just something else he fought hard he had a great big heart now only if i can stop blaming myself i feel that he would still be her if i had just not done the testing |
Rose, I am crying after reading this. I am so sorry for your loss and what you have gone through. Many of those that yell for BAT's don't even breed. I think it is just best to do it when they are older before they are bred or if you suspect a problem with a puppy. Even then I think just a regular blood panel would be the place to start. Thank you so much for sharing your story....it sure opened my eyes. |
thank you for your kind words |
