| I am going through this with one of my boys right now. He was fine last weekend, last monday I get home from work and he had diarrhea bad and threw up a few times also. I called the vet Tuesday morning and got an appt. I went to work for 1/2 a day, got home and he had diarrhea again EVERYWHERE. Took him in and the vet did take a sample and did a rectal exam etc. Nothing was found wrong. He had no parasites or anything. She put him on 2 antibiotics and told me to boil rice and turkey burger 4/1 ratio and give it to him 2x a day until he has a solid poop. If he throws up again bring him back right away. That was all last tuesday night. By thursday I was concerned that he had not had a bowel movement at all, so I called the vet and asked if that was ok, she said he was probably emptied out, that he should have one the next day at the latest and it sounds like it will be solid. Well he has not thrown up again, but I get home friday and same thing you said, my kitchen looked like texas chainsaw massacre. He went poo, but it was not solid. It was not completely liquid though either. It was bloody and almost jelly like. I was freaking.. he threw up again and then pooped again in the car. I was going to rush him into the emergency clinic but he was eating and drinking and active and alert and already on 2 antibiotics. So I decided to watch him and hold off. This was friday night. He was fine through the weekend, but I dont think hes had a bowel movement since friday. My poor baby! If I dont see improvement tonight he'll be back at the vets tomorrow. Ive been diligent in giving him his meds and keep him hydrated, cool and comfortable (we are in the middle of a heat wave here) so I hope & pray that I see a normal movement today. Good Luck to you with your baby!

| Quite honestly, I would not be taking time to post here. I would be on the phone right now with the vet's office telling them you want to bring her in immediately. I hope the best for you guys and hope everything works out. Elaine |

| Most likely they drew a blood panel sample from her neck. Watch for bruising. No more cheese and you may have to put it back in the refrigerator for humans only. It sounds like she has pancreatitis and advanced rapidly. Please follow all of the instructions from the doctor and read on the web. This is very painful for them. Also, I would let the vet know you are unhappy about the tech yelling at her because she was so scared. Poor little pup! Warmly, Deborah

| Hi Elaine: I was only posting here because I was anxiously waiting for her to come out of the back room of the vet. I have an iphone so I can surf the internet the same time. I only wanted to update everyone and perhaps can get a advice the same time I was waiting. |

| Thanks, Deborah. I was seriously thinking of switching vets. I'm not happy with them at all. Yup, no more snacks for her. She's going on a strict diet starting now. I'm cooking rice and chicken as I type. So as soon as that vet tech gave back Squeekie we had to wait like 30 minutes for her to complete my bill and process the meds. I can hear her questioning the other techs what to put on the label . Squeekie was so uncomfortable she kept claiming up to my chest wanting me to hug her so tight, then I noticed she farted. And as soon as we got out of the vet, Squeekie stopped shaking and was more relaxed on the drive home. Turns out she let out a little stool, good thing I wrapped her in her blankie the whole time. The stool looked like dried blood. It was only a very little smudge though. As soon as we got home, I gave her a warm bath, cut her hair around her bottom area, gave her her antibiotic, and now she is asleep while I cook her food. She's going to take a stomach coating med in 20 more minutes. Quote:

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | GOOD luck - (both of you ....celstu1 you too !!) Hopefully it's a bout of pancreatitis and while NOT fun - you can monitor them and watch very carefully what they eat and you should be ok.....I'd be freaking seeing that too. GOOD Luck tonight - I hope they're both better by morning. and Wookie - don't vets just make you so mad ? I know we need them but they need to be in tune with US at the prices we pay - - 30 minutes to wait for your bill with a sick dog ?? that's a long time |

| Yeah, after the vet tech gave Squeekie back to me. The doctor came out and said, "boy we had a hard time getting blood from her, so we had to shave her and we got allot of blood". So I told her, yes, she doesn't like people touching her legs, I could have held on to her for you while you administered it. And she didn't say anything but smile. So they don't even want to let anyone go in the back room. The doctor then said that since Squeekie can't hold down food, then it could be pancreatitis but I told her, well no, because she did eat her chicken jerky and she didn't throw up from that. And she didn't say much, she just had that confused look in her eye. ugh ugh ugh! I can't even imagine if I had left her there, she would probably be so scared and shake all day and night. While the vet tech probably continually yell at her. Especially they won't even let people go in the back room?!? Why on earth would anyone leave their dogs overnight under those circumstances? Sheesh! |

| A while back Kayla had just a tiny bit of blood in her stool. Scared me half to death. The vet said even changing their food can do it. After losing my male schnauzer to diabetes, he had gone into pancreatis. Pancreatis is painful. The morning we took him in for the last time, he was throwing up and when you picked him up he would kinda moan. You can tell they are hurting when its that. Poor little baby. I hope thats not what it is and she gets to feeling better real soon. |

Also, I can't imagine dealing with a vet who doesn't have an in house lab. Having to wait until the next day to get results of bloodwork is unacceptable. If Squeaky does have either HGE or pancreatitis, it can be dangerous to wait 24 hours. Hopefully it is nothing that serious this time, but I'd be shopping for a vet asap. | |

| Thanks for that info. Actually the doctor did feel her tummy but Squeekie wasn't moaning. She usually does moan when I rub her tummy when she goes to sleep but I'm feeling her tummy now and she's not moaning. Her tummy also isn't tight. When the doctor felt her tummy she wasn't explaining to me what she was doing so I don't know what she thought. I finished her rice and chicken and she loved it. Of course, I had to hand feed her . But she ate half of a cup bowl. That was an hour ago and she hasn't thrown up. Actually she hasn't thrown up since I got home from work so hopefully she's getting better. She peed and her pee is normal but she hasn't stooled yet since her little accident in the vet. Thank you everyone for all your advices! Quote:

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just read this whole thread. Really scary actually - in terms of not knowing what is going on. Sending good thoughts your way and hope you find answers soon. Hope Squeakie feels better, poor baby.

| Thank You. She's sleeping with her daddy right now. She ate a little bit again before she slept but still no poop, I noticed she dripped a tiny bit so I cleaned her butt. Glad I cut her hair earlier, otherwise, she would be crying because it will get stuck. Sorry to everyone reading and thinking I'm being so graphic! I've been reading more about HGE, I think she may have this. It just came on so suddenly with out warning and she's been so healthy. I think that she was stressed out on our trip on Saturday this probably intensified her symptoms. I feel so guilty! Hubby said she can't go anywhere anymore with me. I wish that damn vet had her test available the same day! The doctor even told me that she didn't get to inject her with IV because Squeekie was moving so much! ugh!! |

| Christine, Where do you live in the Bay Area? Are you in South City? I'm in Redwood City and I go to Adobe Animal Hospital in Los Altos. They are the best!! They are open 24 hours, have their own lab and pharmacy and have an open door policy where you can be with your pet anywhere in their hospital, even in the operating room!! ( I saw my girls being spayed!) I trust them with all 5 of my dogs and they have over 20 vets there with many different specialties! If you live close enough I would consider changing vets and going to them. I hope Squeekie feels better soon...Hugs
