| Can I borrow some will power? Geesh I feel like a big ole loser. I need to lose some weight in a serious way. I cannot seem to find my will power. I have meetings all day at work and I cannot eat at my desk -- not normal food, just chips and such. I have been in meetings starting at 9 and ending after 5, for brief moments in between I run like a mad woman to the bathroom. I just get stressed and I want to eat. Im having a bad day I guess. Any suggestions?

| It sounds like you're stressed out. Just breathe first It does seem like you have super busy days at work. Maybe instead of chips, you can take trail mix or something like that?

| Well first of all u are not a loser. Maybe u are a picker eater. You have to eat things that are good for you though. Whwther u like it or not. Give up Chips. Eat Salad. Even if its with ALOT OF cheese for awhile. Then eat a protein. Whatever meat u like. any kind. It doesnt matter. You can eat bread and pasta. But not everyday. only like 3 times a week. If you can do this, you will lose tons of weight in 6m/1 yr.. But One of the best things u can do, is feel beeter about yourself, dont feel like a loser, and you will find you are and will be the winner. |

| First of all don't tell yourself your a loser, because when you do it makes you more depressed, and most people tend to eat more when they're depressed. Replace the chips with some veggies or fruit, and if you can go for a walk on your lunch hour. It'll relieve some of your stress, and help you lose some weight.

| I am a personal trainer and have had to deal with weight issues in a lot of different ways. But the first thing is to realize that you CAN do it. If I can do it, if people like OPRAH (who I don't care how much $$$ you have, losing weight is NEVER easy), who have incredibly busy lives, can do it, then so can you! You have to believe in yourself and make the right choices. Believe that you DESERVE to be healthy. Forget about chips at your desk. Cut up fruit and veggies and keep them with you. YOu can cut up a lot of them ahead of time and keep them in ziplock baggies in the fridge so they're THERE when you're tempted. Get yourself one of those insulated lunch bags (or coolers) and make it a routine to pack your meals in them. The mere fact that you've got something special and specific to put them in makes it a more concrete reassurance that you are doing something special for yourself (which you ARE). If you want something sweet, try those single servings of sugar free jello or fat free puddings. Or find a cereal that is healthy and you like, to eat dry as a "snack" (I like either Smart Start or Honey Nut Cheerios). And drink a LOT Of water. It DOES make a difference. When you feel your stomach rumbling, first drink a big glass (or bottle) of water. THEN have something good for you to eat if you're still hungry. Try to increase your lean protein (chicken, fish, turkey, egg whites) to a 4 oz portion 3 times a day. Use PAM or other nonstick cooking sprays to saute foods in. Use fat free or sugar free sweeteners in your coffee or tea. And try to delete sodas from your diet. Exercise is really key and I'm sure you feel like you don't have the time or energy. If you have a lunch break or even 15 minutes, take a walk either outside or around your building. Once you make it a habit, you'll see how it helps with your stress level too and it will eventually show up as lost pounds. On the weekends or days that you don't work, take a longer walk and keep working up to doing a little more each time. Invest in some workout equipment (dumbbells, a step, a ball..whatever will get you moving) and workout videos or if you have a tv station that has workouts on it, do those. FITTV is great. Find out if there's a Yoga program on your local broadcasting. It can help alleviate your stress too, and if you can at least begin it in the privacy of your own home, you won't feel self conscious. I know you can do it; you just have to make the move to do it. Sit down and make a plan; as they say "if you fail to plan, plan to fail". Keep a log of what you eat and when. Keep a log of the activity you do each day. There are a lot of web based fitness and nutrition logs that are really helpful. It helps keep you on track and accountable, so that you can see where you're doing well and where you could be doing a little better. Good luck in your journey. You arent' a loser; the only thing you have to lose is excess weight, and that will make you feel like a complete winner when you become responsible to yourself and your health.

| WOW! Lots of great advice!! I recently lost 30lbs. but needed to lose another 5-8 lbs. so I decided to join Weight Watchers. I loveeeeeeeee the program and actually find it pretty easy. For lunch today,I had Lean Cuisine Ravioli and potato and carrot slices that were cooked on our grill. Then, for dessert,I had a low fat brownie that my son and I made last night. Tasted even better since my 2 year old helped. Anyway,I just thought that I would throw this idea out there. I am able to eat what I want, but within moderation. My body has now gotten used to this and knows when to stop eating....if that makes sense. Before,I would finished off a bag of chips and a container of dip in one day even if I felt full. I know someone else said to drink water and this was actually something that I had to make myself do and now,I like drinking water and knowing that I am healthier for it. Hope I helped some! Tammy |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, hun, I feel for ya. Willpower can be so tough to grab onto. It really does take a lot of discipline. I'd recommend keeping baby carrots and some Light Ranch (or similar) on hand -they really ARE quite tasty, and the crunchiness of them makes them take longer to eat. It sounds like you may be having emotional-eating too - which is pretty much common to 90% of women, I swear. Stress eating too. A GREAT cereal to snack on is Kashi GoLean (the original golean, not the crunchy). Take a look at the label - phenomenal in terms of fiber, protein, and calories. I LOVE this stuff.

| You'll have to figure out what you CAN and CAN'T eat as a snack at your desk. I CANNOT eat fresh fruits and vegetables (as someone suggested to keep at your desk). When I eat them they make my stomach growl and I feel VERY VERY hungry and then I eat everything in sight. I use the Weight Watchers systems and so I have to look for one or two WW point snacks. There are some 2-point bars that I can eat or low fat microwave popcorn. I can also eat a bit of low fat granola with plain non-fat yogurt. It's taken me a long time to find out what works for me. I have to snack on something that tastes good to me; fresh fruits and vegs do not taste good to me and if I try to eat them, then I feel deprived and I eat everything in the house. To me, you have to find a method that works for you. All these tips are great, but they may not work for everyone. Good luck!

| You need to think about food before work. Prepare snacks you can take with you that you can eat at your desk. There are healthier choices than chips. How about apples slices, almonds, dried fruit, strawberries, healthier crackers. Stuff your purse/desk with healthier choices so you are not tempted to get chips etc. I don't go anywhere without a bottled water and nuts or meal replacement bar in my purse. I don't want any Mcdonald's cravings to get the best of me LOL Last edited by chloeandj; 10-05-2007 at 04:33 PM. |

| Protein bars are a good choice. Especially the Powerbar Harvest ones, they are made with whole grains that keep you full longer and the protein does too. Plus they actually taste good They're the consistency of a rice crispie treat and even my daughter loves them. Better than a bag of chips, right!?
