| Lost Dog - need advice Ok, I'll try to be brief with this story. At about 12 today I was driving home when a little white dog ran by my car in my neighborhood. I was scared that she was going to be hit, so I went home to park and then went to see if I could get her to check her tags. By the time I pulled in the driveway she was halfway down my street. She let me walk right up to her and she was really friendly. I have no clue what she is - she has the terrier face, but has a white coat. She looks well taken care of - no mats and is overweight so she must be well fed. She looks like an older girl that has a slight limp on her left back leg. Unfortunately she doesn't have any tags. Well I gave her a bowl of water and I let her rest on my front porch in the shade. I was hoping that someone would come by and claim her. After about an hour I put a collar and leash on her and walked her as far as she could go (we went a few blocks) to ask those neighbors that were out if they knew whos dog it was. That turned up nothing. I then put her in my car and drove her through the next two neighborhoods over and again stopped those that were out to ask if they knew whos dog it was. Well, apparently no one has seen her. I am not sure what to do with her. Tomorrow we will put up flyers, but beyond that, I don;t know what to do. I don't want to call animal control. She has been living on my front porch for the past 4 or 5 hours. We even left for 2 hours to take my mother in law out for her birthday and when we got back she was still there. She barks and howls from time to time and seems to stir my others into a barking frenzy. I know my neighbors are not happy because many have came out with that pissed off look on their faces. I took her off the leash, thinking maybe she would find her way back home, but she won't leave. I have left her water. I am not sure if I should feed her or not. Of course if it was up to me, she would be in the house, but my husband is not going to budge on this on at all. The only thing that I could come up with is to call the humane society and take her there when I get home from work. That is, if she is still living on my porch. Any advice on what should be done?

| I would take her to a vet or the shelter to have her scanned for a microchip. I would also call all the shelters in your area as well as animal control to report a found dog. Give them the dog's description and your info so if the owner calls to see if their dog was found, they can contact you. I'd also post flyers in the area that the dog was found. You can also call vets in your city and leave your info and a description of the dog.

| Thanks, I totally forgot to think that she might be mircochipped. I can take her to my vet to be scanned. But if I call animal control will they pick her up and give her the dreaded three days to be found?

| I am sad to think that she will be left outside overnight. I would definately feed her. Not sure why you wouldn't want to. I wouldn't want her to just wander off. Who's to say she would go back home instead of say maybe being hit by a car or something else. Obviously she is used to baing taken care of and senced you were a caring person and that's why she hasn't left. I can't help but wonder if she hasn't been left on purpose. I just think it would be strange for someone to have lost thier little dog and not be out looking and nobody around you has seen her before. I would take her and see if she has been chipped and notify local vets and shelters so if someone is looking for her they have a chance of finding her. You can also place an add in the lost and found in your local paper. I would never take her to the humane society or local shelter as she may end up being euthanized. Just some thoughts. I hope and pray she finds her home...

| So great of you to take her in and try to help getting her scaned is a great idea. Call the shelter and let them know you have found her.that way if the owner looks there they can find you. Also youcan put can put a free add on craigs list right now in the found and in pets. If there is any way you can get her inside out off th porch that may help with the howling and barking. |

| You are so sweet to have helped that poor baby! You can ask your local shelter if there is a lost pet hotline. Best of luck! |

| They'll only pick her up if you tell them to come get her. I would just call and report her as a found dog, as well as call the shelters. You don't have to take her there but call and give them your info and a description in case the owner goes there to look for her

I wasn't sure about the feeding part. I guess my thinking on that is if I feed her, she'd try to stay and not go back home. I never considered someone leaving her on purpose. Isn't the humane society a no kill shelter? I am not sure what to do with the girl as of tomorrow. She is still free to come and go. My porch is an open porch and she isn't on a leash. I am also worried about her getting hit. After work I will take her to my vet to have her scanned and take all of the suggestions and contact the shelters and paper. Beyond this, I am not sure what to do. She'll need better living arrangements ASAP. I am quite sure my neighbors are less then thrilled that she's howling on the front porch (on the plus side, she has quieted down in the last hour).

| Maybe you could crate the little one in the house..just for the night..or put him on a tie out on the porch that way he wont run on the streets and get his and then you can make all your calls tomorrow...if you cant keep him for a week or two until his family finds him or you have to rehome him..do you have a friend who could do that? Id call a rescue group if not..that way he wont be euthenized and will find a home!! Dawn |

| If you can not bring the little one in for the night, please secure her on the porch. How awful it would be if she saw a rabbit or something else to chase in the night and ended up getting hit by a car. You could be the miracle that her family is praying for. Someone is at home right now worried about where she is. Please call the newspapers early in the morning. I've heard of newspaper employees actually reuniting animals and owners before the next day's paper hits the stands, because if you call in & the owner calls in they might be able to make a connection based off descriptions - this would be especially helpful, if this little girl isn't microchipped.

I have noticed that you are about 3 1/2 hours from me and if push comes to shove and you simply cannot take care of this girl until her parents are found or other suitable arrangements are made than I will be happy to come and get her until they can be found or I can rehome her. I will drive half way if you can meet me or if needed I can come the whole way. I would rather do this than see anything happen to her. We can only do what we can do, and I know sometimes those hubbies are hard to get around! Kim
