I already let my daughter do a lot more than I was EVER allowed to do. My daughter comes to me about things already and I want to keep that door open.

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I think this is a very interesting thread and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't allowed to date until I'm 16. I'm LDS, and the dating at 16 is a Church-standard/suggestion, but is also seriously enforced by my parents. I'm allowed to hang out with boys if they're in my group of friends or whatev. but I can't go on dates until I'm 16. Sometimes I think it's a stupid rule, but when I actually think about it, I realize that if anything it's helping me. I'm going to save myself for my husband, because in my opinion it's one of those VERY speical things that should be between a married couple. That is just my opinion though! and besides, I see all my friends dating. and when they break up with their boyfriend/girlfriend it's the end of the world and their life is collapsing. WHY would I pitch that on myself now when I can wait until I'm older and more mature?

| My parents wouldn't allow me to date until I was 18. They wouldn't even let me hang out with my girl friends outside of school. Their strictness led me to break the dating rule, and I had my first boyfriend at 16. I had to keep it from them for a while, but I have a feeling they knew about it way before I told them. They were way too overprotective in my opinion. |

| YT 2000 Club Member | we told him that we would let him go on group dates. If for any reason he should brake our trust in him, or his grades get affected, then group dating will stop until trust/grades improve.Real dates will come when he is 16. Also he is allowed to walk the girl home only if we know a day in advance and that we hear from her parents that one of them will be home. He is to come strait home. We timed how long it takes to walk her home and we are only allowing for a 2 minute delay. ( he has been on time and not going over minutes) Her parents like the rules too. Hopefully this is good for him till he is 16, then we will have to set different ones up for him! |

| my daughter is 14 also. she's had boyfriends that come over to the house on occasion. she had always told me everything and we have a very open relationship. she tells me things her friends are going throught, etc. when they come over, there is always either me or my hubby there. they play video games, jump on the trampoline, etc. nothing major. I do let her go to the movies with a group. she's a pretty good kid and i'm very lucky, however, i'm not nieve. i know someday the day will come when the boyfriend thing is so much more...and the thought of it all just kills me. however, i've always told her. That according to the bible she should wait until she is married to have sex...however i know that this isnt always the case and that sex is a HUGE responsibility. I told her i pray that since she has always been able to discuss things with me that when she starts to feel like she is feeling like she might want to have sex with a boy that she will come talk to me first. i don't have to approved and let me realistic...we can't stop them, but we sure can educate them and it. i personality see nothing wrong with boys and girls going to the movies at this age. I just always have it be a group thing. usually 5 -15 or so. I don't want to be to strick. I think parents now days have to be careful. there is such a fine line. you can't be tooo strick but yet you can be tooo easy too. regardless....you have to do what you feel comfortable with. you know your kid. I think all kids are different. some you can let go and other you can't. didnt mean to rattle on so much...lol she wont be able to do the one on one dating til she is 16 Last edited by DENISE517; 09-24-2007 at 08:53 AM. |

| I really didnt know that that many people werent aloud dating until 16. Everyone I know dates. I mean EVERYONE. I dont know one person who hasnt been on a a date since sixth grade. actually I do know one person, we use to be freinds but her parents were super strict and then we were allowed to hang out b/c my bathing suits were "too revealing". Now she's pregnant.
