| What good is being thin if you are dead? The scale lies, and don't you forget it. It measures muscle and water as well as fat. You are better served to throw the darn thing away, eat right, exercise, and let the judge be how you feel and how your clothes fit. This is coming from the voice of experience on both fronts, smoking and weight problems for too many years to count. If you want a great online support group to join to assist you with your quit, try www.stopsmokingcenter.net

| OK this whole thread is flipping me out. First of all I have NO SYMPATHY when people are weights like 110 and 125 , normal height and think the are fat. NEXT...... I think smokers have selective observation. Do you all really think people aren't SMELLING you because you can't smell yourselves???? OMG You all have no IDEA how many smokers I know who think we can't smell that stench because they don't smell it. NEWS FLASH.... everybody in the mall or at functions or anyplace else is scrunching their noses and talking about how you stink after you pass and are out of ear shot. It is VERY offensive only nobody ever says anything. Kinda like somebody with B.O. . Nobody says anything but after they walk away everybody is saying WHEW that was NASTY!!!!! Now with that said... i know it is an addiction ... but you already have gotten over the HUMP... Don't blow it! Find youself other ways to cut the craving for food. I know you might not even realize that when you would usually be picking up a cigarette... you are now automatically picking up a snack. KEEP A BOTTLE OF FLAVORED WATER IN EVERY ROOM. Anytime yuo think you want a snack , just tell yourself yous are not hungry( I actually say this OUTLOUD) and take a swig of water. I have bottles in everyroom and even in my car... believe me it helps and because it is flavored I feel like I had somethign instead of flat plain water. DO NOT get carbonated water or you will bloat... get regular flavored

| I need the name of that book!!!! I have tried meds, patch ,gum, herbs, lozenges and cold turkey. By the way I know I stink I do smell it and it drives me crazy. I hate the way I feel. I don't smoke in my house because I don't want it to smell. I hide to smoke because it is social unexceptable. I don't have any friends that smoke. I look trashy when i smoke. Hey don't think people don't tell us to our faces that we stink and that it is a nasty habit. Smokers get badgered by everyone. We know it is killing us. I don't know one person who smokes who doesn't want to stop. It just isn't that easy. It is like telling a fat person hey your going to have a heart attack or your going to get diabetes. They know it and want to change but it is harder than you think. So be nice to those of us that are going through the slow suicide. We are trying even if you don't know about it. Also to the first poster think about how hard it was to quit. I bet you don't want to go through that again. It is far easier to pick a salad over a hamburger than it is to stop smoking.

I disagree with this statement. I have deep sympathy for women who are anorexic (sp) I doubt Gina is looking for any kind of pity from us. Just a friends ear. | |

| I know it's hard, but you've already been so strong to quit for this long. And I'm right with you as one of those women who obsesses over weight, so I completely understand your frustrations. Keep your head up and I think you look great.

Apparently you have never been addicted to anything, bc its easier said then done. I am a smoker and I hate it, I know that I smell, I know that my teeth are turning yellow, and I know that Im slowly killing myself but its so hard to quit! Its all I think about cigs, cigs, and more cigs. Its a terrible addiction that I wish that I would have never picked up but I did. Keep up the good work Gina, if you need anything please let me know. I would be more then willing to help you get through this!

| heather , right on babes... i know i smell, i know its disgusting, i know its bad for you. and there is plenty more,, but i have to say, i have the whitest teeth you will ever see.......and thats a fact jack.......those suckers are pearly white...... and i wish i would of never started.. its so friggin hard .its like you think about it all the time.... i gonna confess, i had a few last nite, but today none again ....believe me this is a track record for me.... i was smoking a pack a day for a long time, so for me, this is real good... it bothers me the most on the weekend when i want a cocktail, and you know they both go together.... so if i can have only when i drink it wont be so bad... i just want to thank all my friends here who are just listening to me and thankyou for being there for me all the time. i just want to hug all of you... gina |

| Try and hang in there, Gina. For the sake of your health. I have never smoked but my husband has and it took him at least 2 years to completely stop. In regards to your weight gain, I can sympathize with you on that. Since I've been in menopause, I've gained 14 pounds. I just want to eat everything in sight. Take Care... and keep trying. | Hi Gina! Long time no see. Have you tried walking every evening? I mean every evening and really walking! I do that. It really makes me feel good, too.
