| seatbelts Very random I know but I gotta vent... My friend called me...she had just gotten a ticket after being pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt...and expecting to have me complain with her, I told her she was wrong. I don't get it. Why do people not wear seatbelts?! If it's a physical problem and it's impossible then that's understandable but otherwise people should probably wear them! I was in a wreck last year where I was flung full force in my car, my seat belt locked and I was flung back. I had bruises and all the other fun stuff that comes with nasty car accidents but it would've been a lot worse if I didn't have my seatbelt on and was flung through the windshield The seatbelt actually does serve a purpose other than being uncomfortable Am I the only one that gets really frustrated with this? Or do I sound like some crazy lady that just needs something ot complain about? I just don't get it?? I know it's the person's decision but when it comes to my friends not wearing them then I get mad. I'm wacky =) Sorry...I know I post a lot but I had to vent -Melissa

| I've never understood not wearing them either. Its law here in NC. Our family is in the habit of it...we wear them...now questions asked...and its not an issue~ I agree with you. And...a good lesson for your friend.

| I feel the same way. I think the little discomfort of a seat belt is a much better option then getting flung through the windshield. But isn't it weird. When I was a kid our car didn't even have seat belts! My dad's arm was the only "Safety Device" in the car. How in the world did we survive that! I even rode in the bed of the pick-up truck bunch of times! Baby seats were non-existant except for the novelty type with the steering wheel and the horn. I don't even know how that thing stayed on the seat! Yikes! Of course the speed limit was slower, less cars on the road so the conditions were a bit safe back then but.... makes you think doesn't it?

| ohio it's a law in ohio too and they just finished a three week thing where they were specifically having extra patrols out finding violators. I've had people get in my car who won't buckle. I will sit where we're at and refuse to move till I hear the belts each click and then I have to turn around and make sure they are actually belted in. I don't get it. It's not that hard to just reach over and strap it in! I'd rather put up with bruises and sores from the seatbelt holding me back than the other thing that could happen. But that's just my opinion...I just wish my friends shared the same opinion -Melissa

| It is the law here, too. But I can see why someone wouldn't wear them. For some, it is not that they are lazy, but more so that they don't want to get stuck in the car and end up having to be cut out by a cop because their seatbelt won't come undone...

| I guess I kind of go against the grain with this subject. I believe that our children should have any and all safety seats to keep them safe, but I think when you over 18 that it should be your choice if you want to wear a seatbelt and not the governments. You can ride on a motorcycle with no helmit but you have to buckle up? I just don't get that....And for reference I actually was a person who ate the windshield in a car accident I was in. Even after that I never wore seatbelts until they made it a law that I had to. It's personal choice and for being in a free country we certainly seem to be losing more and more of those.

| A girl from my university died last week because she was not wearing her seatbelt. She was ejected from the car when it hit a fence. She wasn't driving the car, I might add. The other two people survived; both were wearing seatbelts. I think stuff like that should be enough to get people to wear seatbelts. I don't think anyone should adopt the mentality that it could never happen to them. Quote:

| I was in an accident years ago where I rolled my car about 4 or 5 times. Sure enough that seatbelt saved me from serious injury! It became a law here in Texas right about the time I got my license. I sure fought it though! I would cruise through town with my seat belt "ready" just in case I saw my parents or a cop! But then I started commuting out of town to work and just felt so much more comfortable knowing I was buckled in. That accident happened just a few months later. It's gotten to be such a strong habit that I will get in the car and put my seatbelt on just to drive across the parking lot to another store. And no, helmets for a motorcycle rider are not a law here anymore but I remember when it was. I still make my husband wear one (although all he would consent to was a little beanie helmet) and it probably saved him from serious head injury when a truck pulled in front of him while he was riding his Harley and he went flying across the highway. I do have a serious issue with no helmets. It's not always the motorcyle driver making a mistake.... there are crazy drivers out there and the one on the motorcycle is almost always going to get hurt or killed when the two collide!

| yup it was always understood between my parents and us kids that the seatbelt was on or we did not move. I remember when I was little it would get uncomfortable and I would take it off and my mom would know instantly because it was like she had a radar for the click of unbuckling a seatbelt! I was glad though she got us into that habit because like I had said I was in a car crash last year where I hit a guardrail head on and was thrown forward and the seatbelt locked and threw me back. The paramedics and police and ER doctors all told my parents the seatbelt had probably saved my life. My friends knew about it and my friends were all thankful I was okay...they know the seatbelt played a major role in that crash and you would think that they'd start buckling up once they knew someone that had been in a wreck! But noooooo they don't and they get pulled over and then call me, of all people, to curse out the cops that gave them that 65 dollar ticket! whatever And I agree with the motorcycle helmet. All it takes is one crazy driver to slam into the motorcycle and them fly off and hit their head on the concrete and not wear a helmet. There should be a law for them having to wear helmets too. I am not trying to deny everyone a "Freedom of choice" but when it comes to things like these that saves life then that's a whole different story! Sorry...I get really fired up about things like this!! Melissa

Click it or Ticket, it's the Law. I would hate to lose a friend just because she didn't were a seatbelt. Years back on our son's Doctors wall was a newpaper clipping. A lady and her husband were taking their daughter to her Doctor. The lady thought it would be best to hold her daughter because she was sick, and the office was only a few blocks away. Yep, they were hit on the way, and thier daughter didn't make it. How sad is that. My friends son would scream not to wear his seatbelt. I was so upset over it, and told him he would never ride in my car without one. I told my friend to take her son down to the Police Station to look at pictures of people who didn't wear seatbelts. It worked, now when you get in a car with him, he's the first one to say CLICK IT!

| My boyfriend drives me insane. I have to TELL him EVERYTIME we are in the car "HONEY YOUR SEATBELT" I mean honestly, how hard is it to remember????? I haven't even sat down completely yet and my seatbelt is clicked in already. I've never been in an accident but it's common sense to wear your seatbelt. I've never understood why people try to be the devils advocate by arguing against wearing a seatbelt when everyone knows it's safer. But I guess some people just have to have something to disagree with.

| it sounds crazy but i wish there were things to hold our little dogs in the car too. everytime i stop real fast and they're in the car with me im afraid they'll get hurt. if i stop fast it's automatic for me to put my arms out in front of them to keep them from falling but i know that if i were to ever get in another wreck like that again and they were in the car they'd prolly have no chance and that makes me sad lol just another random thought from yours truly...im good at those

Oh, but there is such a thing and we discuss it here all the time. Tatum has a car seat that sits on the console in the front seat of my Tahoe - it has a strap that hooks to her harness to hold her in if an accident does happen. Do a search here for all the discussions we've had. I won't ride with Tatum unless she's in her seat (had a scary situation with our poodle years ago). Makes me feel better and she LOVES it!
