A girl from my university died last week because she was not wearing her seatbelt. She was ejected from the car when it hit a fence. She wasn't driving the car, I might add.
The other two people survived; both were wearing seatbelts.
I think stuff like that should be enough to get people to wear seatbelts. I don't think anyone should adopt the mentality that it could never happen to them.

Even after that I never wore seatbelts until they made it a law
that I had to. It's personal choice and for being in a free country
we certainly seem to be losing more and more of those. |
By the way, it's required in California to wear a saftey helmet while riding a motorcycle. So your argument doesn't apply here.
