| ![]() What I will never understand, is it is the Law to wear your seatbelt/ Click it or Ticket.. Yet you can ride a motorcyle with no helmet.. I don't get it, I actually think it should be your right.. either way, but if one why not the other?

| ![]() I wear my seatbelt but I only started like a year ago..... Just one day I had a vision while I was on the interstate about what if this truck infront of me stopped without notice and I hit it....... Ever since I have worn my seatbelt.... B/4 then I never wore it. It's a law but I figured it was my right to wear one or not. I don't think it should be anyone elses decision. I did get (2) tickets when it was only a $25.00 fine but now I think it's like $75.00 if you get caught.... That's also a crazy price for just not wearing a seatbelt... Crystal

| ![]() I do wear my seatbelt, but I don't think it should be the law for persons over 18. It should be the law for minors because they shouldn't be put at risk because they're parents choose not to heed the warnings. However, I look at seatbelt wearing like smoking. People know smoking kills, but yet millions of people still smoke. Same with seatbelts you know that they save lives, but if you choose not to heed the warning that should be your choice. I think it's just another way for the states to make money off of people.

| ![]() Here is something that I posted earlier in the thread regarding seatbelt statistics: Fatalities and accidents involving those not wearing seat belts costs the U.S. approximately $20 billion per year. Of that cost, 74% of the tab is paid for by the public. [NHTSA, Traffic Safety Facts Overview, 2001] Now can anyone tell me how the government MAKES money off people NOT wearing their seatbelts? Not only does it cost the government it costs us taxpayers as well. People can do what they choose to do but the argument that the government makes money off of us not wearing seatbelts or that you have just as much risk of dying being stuck in the car with your seatbelt on as you do being ejected from the car with not wearing your seatbelt is not supported by facts. Sorry I am agree with SissaYSU this topic gets me a little fired up. Also, in the state of Maryland you are required a helmet, which I agree with those who say it makes no sense that you have to wear your seatbelt and not have to wear a helmet.....you should have to and want to do both.

That is a VERY good reason why they make laws about it!! Good point! Its obvious that 1 out of 4 people just do not have good enough sense to put thier seat belt on so laws are put in place so that we taxpayers dont have to waste so much money on Fatalities and accidents involving those not wearing seat belts

| ![]() I always wear my seatbelt and so does my hubby but.... I dont think that it should be a law that you have to wear them if you are over 18. I think that it should be your own decision. Also on the other side I have seen people die in car accidents when they were wearing their seatbelt. I had a friend in highschool thats car caught on fire and she couldnt get out bc of her seatbelt, and there were 2 people here that the seatbelt cut off their heads bc of the impact. So I think that in some ways they are safe and some ways not! When I was in an accident last year the seat belt put a huge burn on my neck but it did go away within a few days!

| ![]() I always wear my seatbelt as does everyone else in my car. What I actually think is great is that kids are trained now to wear seatbelts to the point that if you forget they get on to you as my nieces have done to me a couple times. Anyway I also feel that it should be required by law. My reasoning is because if I cause and accident with another car and the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt and dies I could be in a lot of trouble. Now I admit I caused the accident but its very much possible that if the person had been wearing a seatbelt they may have lived. Now on top of the guilt I am going to feel for killing someone else I could also have lawsuits as well as other penalities possibly jailtime. All for killing someone that may not have died. Now I know this is all what if and sure if there was a lawsuit you could argue that the jury/judge should take into consideration the seatbelt thing but they may not. And sure I caused the accident but it may not necessarily be because of something stupid, like drinking and driving or speeding or looking in the floorboard for a cell phone or what not. I honestly do think that seatbelt protect more than just the person wearing them and for this reason I'm all for it being required by law.
