| ![]() I feel your pain! DH and I are building a house this summer so we are getting our existing house ready to go on the market (new carpet, new tile, new paint in neutral colors.) organizing, decluttering, etc. The issue we will have (hopefully) is that our existing house should sell before our new house is built so then where do we move our family of 5 plus two dogs? Ah well, we'll have to see when the time comes!

| ![]() I am not really sure how to take this but, we had a showing and the family said they did not like the smell of the vanilla odor. They said they had to rush through because of the smell. The smell they are referring to was a candle that we had lit earlier. My realtor even said she did not think the smell was strong at all. My thoughts are....if you don't like the house just say you don't like the house and not blame it on a candle. And I say this because we really need feedback to correct major issues. However we will now just not burn candles if we know we are having a showing. If you all like a house would the smell of a candle turn you off that much, knowing that it is temporary and will eventually go away? Last edited by Fatalivy; 04-15-2014 at 04:42 PM. |

| ![]() Before DH and I finally decided to just go ahead and build I looked at well over 100 houses. We put offers in on 3 or 4 but even those we didn't "love" we just agreed that they were the best so far and that we could settle for them. We must be pretty picky because when we bought our existing house we had looked at at least 50 houses before finding this one and loving it immeadiately. That was pre-children, so it is harder now to find something that "fits" our family and meets our wants and needs. We don't have extravegant tastes, either- simple lines and common sense set ups are what we want. I designed our new house to meet those needs. It isn't going to be fancy and it isn't going to be terribly huge but I HOPE that it will be "just right" for us and make us happy! Plus, we'll all get to live together again full for the first time in four years, so there's that.

| ![]() Well, we received an offer but it was such an insult to us, that we are not going to waste our time with a counter offer. Maybe the buyer will realize how ridiculous the offer was and make a more reasonable one or we move on. This does however make us feel good about getting an offer soon. The showings had slowed down a little but in the last five days we have had four and all of the feedback was positive but most were not looking for a home quite as big. Woo hoo! |

I know some realtors and house staggers will tell you to make your house smell homey, like newly baked cookies and such. I think it's bologna. Also, people are cautious when buying and are worried you're trying to hide you're home's flaws. Are they trying to mask the smell of mold with other scents, etc.? A house should just be clean and not smell period, or you always run the risk of putting some people off.

That is fine if you don't like the smell, however that is something that goes away It is not permanent and I was not trying to mask anything. We like candles. Sometimes people just make things worse than they really are or they are looking for something to be wrong and there really isn't anything wrong. | |
