I know, I know...letting the apnea happen now is not good. I really don't want a cpap machine, and my sleep doc always thought it wouldn't be that great for me anyway, bc my insomnia is so bad (outside of the apnea events). Ugh.

| The key food trigger for me is MSG, and its in EVERYTHING prepared I tried Imitrex and did not like how I felt when taking it. I stick with OTC Excedrin Migraine if its a "normal" one. If its more severe than normal my SIL got me an OTC from the UK call Nurofen which is a combo of ibuprofen & codeine among other things. Amazing stuff. Also, I've found massage to be very helpful - only caveat is you must find someone who is deep tissue skilled and knows how to specifically combat headaches. It is actually a lot of work on your upper back / shoulders / neck. Those fluffy massages don't cut it. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've tried the Trazadone...and I have a paradoxical reaction...it makes me more alert! I have to take Ambien for sleep...which works fairly good...but not always. If you have tried Ambien in the past, do you like Lunesta better? I've heard really good things about Lunesta. Gosh, you must have the same kind of chronic insomnia that I do .

Thor's Human Donating Member | Ann, have you tried melatonin to help with sleep? I also take Ambien, but I snap awake after five hours. I have to take something else to keep me asleep. Ironically, I have trouble with insomnia AND hypersomnia - I need 10 hours / night, always have. All throughout my twenties, I was literally unable to keep to a set sleep/wake cycle. I finally just started taking prescription drugs, and while that is not my first choice for solutions, it has been far more successful than anything else I tried. Anyway, for the melatonin, try taking it about an hour before bedtime. It won't make you overwhelmingly tired. Also, try to get 1mg tablets. For some reason, most suppliers in the US sell 3 mg pills, which is 10x the standard dose in Europe. I've had mixed reactions with Ambien too. I think it depends on how recently I've eaten. Sometimes I drop like a felled tree, and sometimes I just walk around in a stupor for a few hours. I have to make sure to turn my computer off before I take it, because Ambien and eBay do not mix well at all!

Thor's Human Donating Member | I take Ambien to fall asleep and Lorazepam (sp?) to stay asleep. It's very effective for me.
