EDIT: I really think you should try to run the AVAST program first if possible.

Once you get a virus, it's really hard to get rid of them and they often can take you to the wrong site. If you do any important things on the computer a good virus protection program is a must. They can completely clean your computer up for you, and install a virus protection program.

I just talked again with Patti. She cannot download anything...she has tried several times to download avg...it starts to download and then goes to porn sites. She also keeps getting a windows security alert that says application cannot be executed...your computer is infected. She also can't get into the add/remove program (control panel). She found a disc and was going to put that in and said she would lose everything on her computer, but she was willing to try. I told her to shut the computer off and we'll have to figure something out. I think she would probably be better off to just go buy a new computer. She's so upset and just keeps getting one porn site after another. It's weird how it wasn't until she clicked on the link in this thread, that her computer went to porn. Darn it anyway. She is not able to download anything...the virus stops her. I wonder where she got this virus. She says thanks to all who are trying to help. Anyone with any ideas, post in this thread and I'll pass it on to her tomorrow. Thanks all!

just called my isp and he said to reinstall my recovery system, the virus won't let me. he also said that the alert popping up was a virus itself it keeps saying it is a antivirus software but it isn't it is a virus, he said this is really a bad one and nothing that can be done now. so i guess it means a new computer.

What is the Operating System? Vista or XP?

I'd like to see if she can do a system restore on her computer. It can restore the computer back to a point where the computer is more functional. At that point she may be able to install/run an antivirus program.

When you try to install the recovery disk. Do you turn the computer on with the disk already in it? That should allow the computer to boot up in recovery mode.

Worse case scenario is take it to Best Buy and have the Geek Squad look at it to see what they can do. I really think this can be fixed, but you need to be patient.

I don't know if you have downloaded Internet Explorer 8. I have found that some of my friends had major problems after downloading it. You can google how to download IE8 and re-install IE7. I hope this is helpful.

hey patti - you can also start your computer in safe mode if you have a virus program already installed -

then you run the anti-virus program that you already have and see if it can pick up that nasty thing

It sounds like a Rogue Virus.

Or go to an address bar and type in safety.live.com Do a full service scan to see if it can find and remove any issues.

Exactly. It doesn't sound that she has any virus protection though.

I was thinking also she can do a System Restore to about a month ago. She may have clicked something to get that virus and it's possible that can help.

There are several options, so I hope that she can test some of them.

I got a real bad virus this year by clicking on a picture link. It was the day after new years.
I clicked on a photo bucket picture and boom Norton popped up saying virus saying unsafe site. I clicked off it and shut off the internet and all of a sudden I got a pop up saying internet security 2010 wants you to scan your computer. I was .........I don't have internet security 2010 Looked on my desktop and a new icon was there.
I clicked off this thing and it kept popping up scan your computer now virus and trojans have been identified on your system.
I shut my computer off and turned it back on and my screen was bright green with red alert across the page SCAN NOW!!!

I tried everything.......it would not let me access the internet saying that I had to scan first and I did not want to scan with that program not knowing what viruses it would download.

Sadly to say I had to do a whole system swipe.

I HATE VIRUSES!!!!
I hope you can fix your computer I know how frustrating it is.

Never heard of this one - I used trend micro in the past -

I'm off to try it myself cause the one I have is driving me crazy and I have to get rid of it - this is the first time I've been unable to remove a trojan and when my son lived with me ....I had ....let's say - issues ????

I think I found it - wish me luck and Patti - GOOD LUCK honey ! I hope you get yours fixed - I don't have the porn problem thankfully but I'm in the same boat as you - trojans should only be ONE thing and not on our computers ! (sorry - had to say that )
