OMG.. what a horrifying experience. I am so glad to hear that your son is doing better and that Armani is as well. What a brave son he is.. you must be so proud of him. I hope they prosecute the owners of the dog that attacked him to the FULLEST extent of the law. NO ONE.. man or animal should ever have to go thru something like that.

Very glad to hear that your son and his dog will recover. Terrible experience for them both. I can't believe there was no mention of the incident in any Chicago paper or on the news. Usually whenever a Pit does something, it makes the news. It was terrible, but it could also have been much worse.

Armani, had some surgery too, he is doing awesome! what a trooper!!! he is actually happy and prancing around! He is now at my soon to be daugherinlaws parents house, they have been awesome, to take on Armani, so we can be with my son....we went and visited him tonight, to give him some loving from my son.

I have to go back and read all the messages, I just wanted to hurry and write what was happening, this is first time I have been by a computer.

I have to say how PROUD I am of my son, he fought to save his puppy, and wouldnt give up till Armani was safe... without a thought for himself.

My son was walking out the door of his building and turned right and didnt see the pit coming around the corner, he attacked Armoni's jaw first and my son, jumped on top of the pit, the pit turned and latched onto my sons hand, my son went down then the pit turned and got Armani by the throat...my son was on him again, even though he was in terrible pain, the ppl that owned the pit were yelling at my son not to hurt THERE dog!!! a neighbor saw this and handed my son different kitchen untencils, through the door, to try and pry the pits mouth open, and the owner of the pit kept grabbing them and throwing them, finally they handed him a crowbar and he pryed his mouth open and he let go of the puppy, the neighbor grabbed Armani and pulled him into the building. Then my son still had the pit....the owner PUSHED my son off the pit, he fell over, and had no strength left and the pit came back at him, lunging at his face he put his arm up and the pit locked onto it..the owner finally got chain around the pit and got him off my son....THEN they left my son laying out in the street and LEFT!..the neighbors had called police and ambulance, they pulled my son into the building and locked the door and waited with him till ambulance got there...It was such a violent experience, it just breaks my heart...

sorry so long.....
I live in Chicago and watched the news for the past few days thinking that there would be something about this on but it was never reported. It just makes me sick to think of something like that happening to anyone! I'm so glad that both your son and his dog are safe and on the way to recovery. That is wonderful news.

It sounds like your son was very brave fighting off such a vicious attack from that dog! They used a crowbar to pry its jaws open! That is insane!

Since I am from the Chicago area I have to ask where this all happened? Was it in the city? I've seen people walking pits in the city with chains that you could tow a car with! I was inside my car and totally intimidated by the look of a dog like that.

Do the surgeons think he will have any nerve damage to his hands? What type of work does he do...................I am so full of questions.

I went back and read the posts...thanks again for all your good thoughts and prayers..I know the power of prayer is so very strong, and that has what has made the difference....your all such wonderful ppl...

after reading all the post, I know I should of put dog instead of the breed, I am an animal lover, I love every single one out there...I blame the owners, if you are going to have a big animal, esp. one with a bad reputation, and you love your animal, then you need to take precautions, as in training and leashes. What I dont get, cause I love my dogs (rotty and 2 yorkies) why would you ever put your dog in a situation, where you might have it taken away from you, or worse yet, put down?

I am very emotional today, kind of like whew! and letting it out. I would never want to offend anyone, but will stick up for myself, as a wife, mother and grandmother...so if anyoe else thought it was in bad taste to post what I was going through the other day, I am sorry, I am on YT alot, and have talked to alot of you, and felt like I could come in here and ask for some good thought and prayers..

I wish it was on the news, I live in a very tiny town in the mts. of TN, and we have strict, leash laws here, and swift action is taken..I would of thought in a city, like chicago, that they would be on it, and more would of been done...at this time the people were given a NO CONTROL violation, and if you press it and take action you will get about $50.00...The police told my husband that, if my son was mauled to death, he would of had more rights! nice huh? I just dont get it.

My son is North of the city, off of Kedvale..I was born in chicago but moved when I was lil, we lived on south side so, not familiar with North at all.

My son is a commercial builder, so not in the day to day labor, anymore, but is very active in baseball and martial arts (evern that wasnt helpful)
Right now we are concerned about infection, we get through another 24hours without it, and we will be started on the right road. Yes, there is some nerve and tissue damage, along with 24 of the 27 bones in the hand and wrist broken.

I guess what I am saying is I am VERY offended in this post, I guess you must be a better parent than I am!
if the person had read your original post, they would've known you were waiting for your husband to return, you said it very clearly ... and even if you didn't, the comment was completely unnecessary, that's why absolutely everyone ignored it ... please don't waste your time with this one, chalk it up to ignorance!!

on a more important note, sooooooo glad to hear your son and his puppy are ok!!! i really hope he gets back the full use of his hand and i'm glad you made it up there safely to be with him. prayers are still with you and your family!!!

So great to hear the good news! Your son is very brave to take on that dog. Thank God other neighbors were able to lend assistance. Unbelievable that the owners of the dog just left your son laying there. Hope his hand heals quickly. They should be prosecuted for that!
Nothing wrong with seeking friendship and prayers while waiting....

bless your heart!

glad your son is okay - and his dog! small dogs usually don't have a fighting chance (literally) when attacked by a large dog. thank goodness for that at least!

i live in TN as well - and in a secluded area (not a hick town) but secluded as in we live on a pretty large piece of land. even here - i had large dogs (one being a pit) run onto my property. i guess everyone thinks they know their dogs and don't think they would harm anyone. that usually is the case (except when it isn't!) which is obvious by the tragedy you've shared with us.

i can't believe the way the dog's owners reacted! i may have missed the mention of it, but did they find the owners to question them/hold them accountable?

I totally understand why you were on the PC. You must have been going frantic with being unable to do nothing from where you were, and telling people about it would be a release for some of that tension. It will have stopped you falling to pieces completely. I'd have done exactly the same thing...in fact, I have in the past but in different situations.

The attack sounds horrific and you should be incredibly proud of your son. I'm really glad that both man and dog got away without much more serious injuries. And I really hope they get the dog and its owner...cowardly scumbag. Give a big hug to Armani from us and tell your lad that he's a real hero for protecting the pup.

We had a little Cavalier killed by a Staffie around here a few weeks ago. Also, a yorkie had a leg ripped off a couple of years ago after a boy set his Staffie on the little dog. The yorkie's owner picked it up and tried to protect it but it still lost a leg. A few months ago I saw a Staffie chase a little old Jack Russell out of a park. I just managed to pull my little son out of their path and the dogs ran onto the road. The Staffie had just got hold of the old dog when a car knocked the Staffie flying. Amazingly, the little JR got away with a bruised leg but the Staffie was pretty broken up. The Staffie's owner had done nothing to stop the attack and it took ages for people to persuade him to get the dog to the vets...scumbag.

I was so relieved that both of your loved ones are going to come out of this physically. Your son and his puppy may have some lasting PTSD from the incident that may not show for weeks. I really feel for you as a mom. Non knowing what had really happened, how bad it really was, and then seeing him in the hospital injured after such a horrifying experience, I have been there when my son was shot while he was making a bank drop after close of the fast food place he worked at. I just got a call in the middle of the night that he had been shot..no more information, (that's why I mentioned the PTSD, my son had it). I do not live in Chicago, I am in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, these things just don't happen here, but it did. It's so hard as parents to protect our kids at every turn when they are little so they will get a chance to spread their wings and fly, but when they leave we can't protect them anymore and sometimes bad things happen. Luckily God was looking out for your boy while you were not there, things could have been a lot worse. May only sunny days come your way for a long, long time.

Thank you.so much for the kind words and understanding.

Oh yes, we know whom the owners are, they just moved into the building my son is in...Nice huh? and the dog is still here! We are praying the owners of the building will make them get rid of the dog, before someone else is hurt, or worse..I myself,as a mom, would hate for him to be in this building, with my son and the puppy. Tell the truth, I dont like to be here, never knowing if they will be around some corner.

The police have not been able to locate the one man, that pushed my son off the dog, he will be facing battery/assult charges..there is a warrant out for him...so at the least I hope they will get him for the medical bills and for Armoni's medical bills too.

O I am so sorry, that had to be just horrible for you and your family..I hope he is doing well now, I would imagine it would be with you for ever.

It was very hard to be so far away, I was a complete wreck! I packed in probably 2.5 seconds, and all I could do was wait and wait...once my husband got home...we packed the truck up and left, was the longest drive of my life...My son is a 30 yrs old.Adult, but all I could think was, I had to get to my child.

My husband and I were just talking tonight, about what delayed reaction my son may have, since it was such a violent experience to have gone through. I will keep that in the for front of my mind, thanks so much for sharing that with me..and again, I hope your son is doing very well now, Bless his heart

I am so relieved that your son and his pup Armani are going to be ok. As a mom and a grandmother I cannot even image the horrific thoughts that were going through your mind until you could be with your son. I hope the law enforcement in Chicago find and arrest the idiot who tried to force your son off his dog. Your son is a hero for saving his pup. I pray for a speedy recovery for your son. It is beyond comprehension as to why the dog was not picked up and at least put in quarantine. I live in a small town in Tn also. We have leash laws but I live about 10 miles out of town and most of our neighbors do not obey them. There are always someones dog in our yard. I have had to call animal control because of one neighbor's dog getting in my koi pond during the summer. It is the owners responsibility to control their animals and until people take pet ownership serious there will sadly continue to be reports of things like this happening.
