i live in TN as well - and in a secluded area (not a hick town) but secluded as in we live on a pretty large piece of land. even here - i had large dogs (one being a pit) run onto my property. i guess everyone thinks they know their dogs and don't think they would harm anyone. that usually is the case (except when it isn't!) which is obvious by the tragedy you've shared with us.

i can't believe the way the dog's owners reacted! i may have missed the mention of it, but did they find the owners to question them/hold them accountable?
We had a little Cavalier killed by a Staffie around here a few weeks ago. Also, a yorkie had a leg ripped off a couple of years ago after a boy set his Staffie on the little dog. The yorkie's owner picked it up and tried to protect it but it still lost a leg. A few months ago I saw a Staffie chase a little old Jack Russell out of a park. I just managed to pull my little son out of their path and the dogs ran onto the road. The Staffie had just got hold of the old dog when a car knocked the Staffie flying. Amazingly, the little JR got away with a bruised leg but the Staffie was pretty broken up. The Staffie's owner had done nothing to stop the attack and it took ages for people to persuade him to get the dog to the vets...scumbag.
