| Anyone have asthma? I have just recently aquired this fun problem this year and I hate it because it really annoys me. There is no telling when I am going to have a bad day. And unfortunetly I havent exactly figure out what all my "triggers" are yet. I also suck at taking my medicine everyday . Bottomline is when I have problems with it I cant get them to go away and even the stupid inhalers dont work. Like today I have annoying chest pains and cant get them to go away. Does anyone else have these problems? What works for you? What are your triggers?

| I do not have asthma, but my Boyfriend suffers from it terribly. When we were in highschool it was really really bad, so bad he had to leave school for a while and was sort of hospitalized. What triggers it is the weather, and so far it's starting up over here. It's very windy, sunny and it's making his allergies go bizerk. It's not fun! |

| I have it. Mine isn't too bad though. Mine is triggered by exercise and such and then also if I'm outside on a cool night. That cool night air seems to get to me as well. I used to swim a lot in high school so it was worse then. Caffine helps it. My sister used to have attacks fairly regularly in high school and if she didn't have an inhaler with her she would get a coke. I would think that the inhaler prob works better, but you could try some caffine with it next time and just see if it helps. Also I've heard not to lay down if you are having an attack. I also have this thing where I can't take more than one puff from my inhaler. If I do then I get really shakey and weak feeling. Are you like that at all? I don't think my sis has that prob.

| I feel your pain... I have 'allergy induced asthma', and the causes are dust, mold/mildew and drastic changes in weather. It comes in quite handy when it's time to vaccuum! I have a tightness/discomfort in my chest and nasal congestion. Like you, I'm bad about taking meds (just hate to take the chemicals!), but if you don't keep it under check you can have lots of bronchitis. Try to zero in on what is causing it, and you can avoid a lot of problems. Find a good allergist and they will do the tests to tell you. It's really worth it. Good luck, and feel better!

| Oh yeah, the light headedness is because you aren't getting enough oxygen in your body. If that keeps up, you need to go and get some from the ER! Otherwise you might pass out and come to wondering what happened... Not trying to scare you, but been there done that!

| I'm really sorry, I know it isn't fun. I have had the chest pains before. It hurt pretty much all the time but was really bad when I would breathe in, so much that I didn't want to breathe. I went in to a doctor during one of these and they gave me a breathing treatment there. Maybe if it is still like that tomorrow you should consider going in. They made me breathe into this tube thing to see how strong(I guess)I was breathing and after about four times of trying really hard she said I needed a breathing treatment right then. It really did help too. If you haven't done one before its nothing you just suck on this pipe thing for a while. If you go in maybe you should request that breathing test if they don't give it to you, I don't know what it is called though sorry, maybe someone else will know more about it. I would definately do a little research on the web and load yourself down with questions and complaints (if you have any) next time you go to the doctor. If they still don't seem to help maybe consider finding a new one. Like I said my asthma isn't too bad but if it was its definately not something I'd take lightly, and you should feel good about the doctor that is treating it.

| Thanks guys for your info. I feel a little better now after a nap . I have done some research on the web but medical crap on the internet is so wordy. It really helps to here "normal" people's knowledge/experience. I just get so angry when I get attacks because nothing eases them. I pretty much just have to wait for the day to be over . I get frustrated because I feel too crappy to work but I dont have anytime to waste so it gets so annoying. When I went to the doctor again for it 2 weeks ago, I of course wasnt having asthma problems that particular day so she(the doctor) wasnt very helpful because she was like "your breathing just fine right now"- well duh! I wasnt having problems that day . So she wasnt really listening or concerned. She said the light headedness was from breathing in toooo much oxygen . That doesnt really make sense. I also dont get any relief from the albutoral inhaler and that also doesnt make any sense and upsets me. Today is a level orange pollution/ozone day but I just dont understand all of that. I rarely go outside so does it somehow seep into my house? I dont mean to sound stupid but everytime it is a bad ozone day I will wake up with chest pains and they wont go away for the entire day. Today was one of those days. But anyways I was so frustrated with it earlier. Thanks guys for your info about it. Since I work at home and dont have co-workers to talk to, YT is the only place I know to go . Sad isnt it?

| Yeah, I understand about not understanding the whole medical crap. I went to the doctor yesterday to be tested to RA(Rheumatiod arthritis sp?) they said that they didn't think I had it bue gave me some other medical term to explain why my bones hurt. Basically it is because I'm very flexiable and my bones bend slightly more than regular, but I have no idea what they actually called it. So here I am trying to explain this to my mom and my husband and now you in this foolish way. All I know to say is that maybe if it gets like that again is to try to get in to see the doctor then. If she is a specialist for asthma and you can't get in to see her just try and go to a regular doctor and tell them that you are having chest pains and have recently discovered that you have asthma could that be it? When I had that breathing treatment it was at a regular doctors office, well actually it was at the college's dr. office which is often times worse. Also you can buy air filters to use with your heating and air unit that are supposed to be better at stoping allergens and such. Also I know my mom always used a plug in air filter thing each time my sister came over in the room she would sleep in. We had cats and it really helped her since she was allergic to them. Febreeze also has an allergen reducer spray that you can spray your carpets and furniture with. I don't really know if any of these will help but maybe. Well there's got to be more people on here with asthma so keep an eye out hopefully they will post soon and give you some more advice.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Sweetie - I grew up with it but no longer have it - While my husband does NOT have asthma - he has a terrible breathing related terminal illness - ADVAIR seems to help him - have you tried it ? You can ask your doctor for a sample and try it for free. Also - Spiriva is brand new and a steroid inhaler that many emphysema patients are on - they find after a few weeks it greatly improves their problems with getting enough O2 good luck - it sucks not being able to breath |

| Mine is allergy induced, too... My triggers are just about everything, but I do get it badly when I exercise, too. I take ADVAIR and have an emergency inhaler... if I know the day is going to be bad (high pollen index, lots of physical activity, etc) I take the Advair. But to tell you the truth, the best thing I've done for my asthma is start learning yoga. They teach you to breathe very deeply, and it can help control attacks. At least it has for me. Good luck! |

Its funny how you were saying you couldnt explain to your family what they said. Thats how I feel a lot of the time with some doctors. Most of the time it seems like the doctors dont even give whatever it is that I will have a name. That just hand me a precription. I really liked my old doctor though- she was very good and listened and explained things well. But she just moved so I had to find a new doctor and it was the new doctor that wasnt patient or very good. So I need to look for another one I guess. I hate breathing treatments. I actually have my own machine from when I got pneumonia in march. But When they gave me a breathing treatment at the doctors office I left and went to the post office for a quick errand and all of a suddden started feeling really hot and tingly all over and then I briefly blacked out. It was embarrassing. So now I am scared of breathing treatments Anytime I have to breath into somethign I get wooozy.
