Mine is allergy induced, too... My triggers are just about everything, but I do get it badly when I exercise, too.
I take ADVAIR and have an emergency inhaler... if I know the day is going to be bad (high pollen index, lots of physical activity, etc) I take the Advair.
But to tell you the truth, the best thing I've done for my asthma is start learning yoga. They teach you to breathe very deeply, and it can help control attacks. At least it has for me.
