I know what you mean. Where my parents live, they are the managers and we know the owner very well. I know she has a no soliciting policy and a no loitering policy. We have signs, but our own tenants don't listen and loiter and pee in front of the building (I am seriously ashamed to admit that). If we can't get the tenants to listen how in the world would we get solicitors to stop?

My friend did say something to me once about religious solicitors. His dad put a sign in front of his house that said "We're a happy catholic family." According to him, that stopped religious people from knocking on his door. Maybe something similar would work for you.

I agree they shouldn't be knocking when the sign is in plain sight
People need to make a living though and I feel so bad when I don't answer the door but I just don't need the product they are selling and I really don't have the time to sit there and listen, but I do feel bad about it.
As far as the Jehovah Witnesses I take the pamphlet and thank them , thats it.
My husband gets so mad at me, but I feel bad.
I did get upset one time and said I was a Roman Catholic all my life and I wouldn't be changing religions anytime soon, but if I did I would let them know, then I slammed the door They never came back.

I am not opening the door the next time round!

I hate those scammers, I used to have a very to the point notice at my front door saying basically that we were not interested in any door to door sales, religions... that they were trespassing and to immediately remove themselves from our property.

Well one of those scammers from the energy saving company saw the note and ripped it up. He is lucky I never saw him do it. I saw him going door to door and thought he just read the notice and left, after I saw it crumpled and ripped up, the nerve.

Funny but I just had another salesman come to the door just now, I ignored him.

IMO "No Solicitors" = no door-to-door sales, religion, charities, ect

It's funny, after I posted on here a guy tried to sell me a magazine subscription at the door. He looked creepy though and gave me 2 different reasons for selling them a $2000 cash prize and later he said a trip to Europe. I got suspicious and told him I'm not interested and he said something like "Well I also get points for hugs and kisses." uh.... what?????

sorry but i always thought it solciting meant selling something and religious groups aren't usually selling something.

No not even a little. He was chunky, and had a tattoo of a scorpion on his left arm, shoulder length hair and it looked like he could really use a bath. He creeped me out!!!

I get so annoyed at people knocking on my door to either try and sell me something or try and change my religion. We usually only get the Jehovah's witness and teens that do not live around here selling magazines or something for "school" and getting points for it..whatever the h*ll that means. If it's kids I know , I don't have a problem.... but for strangers to be dropped off in a neighborhood to sell something is fishy at best.

One day 5 JW's came by my house ...in one day !!! I put up a sign ( handwritten & taped to my front door) that read:


I am happy with my God , my magazines , and my cleaning products . If you want to convince me otherwise...DON'T bother ... DON'T knock .... and DON'T come back.

Do you know an idiot still knocked at my door. Heck of a lotta good the sign did.

I usually just ignore it and don't answer the door ( which is funny in the summer time because they can clearly see me in the living room as they cross in front of the windows up the walkway to the door and I just sit ignoring them in plain view ) but I hate that it gets the dogs upset and barking

I was thinking about a no soliciting sign but really don't think it would do much good , because some of the people coming to my door don't even understand what it even means

I had this same problem at my other house. I had No Soliciting in both english & spanish, then I had Websters Dictionary definition of "Soliciting" under that, then I also had That Means No Religion Either typed under that... stuck to my door.

Yep, it was really wordy. (I did it on my computer & printed it off myself).

Didn't really stop anyone. They still rang the bell. But it made me feel better to put it there.

I have to say, I agree with just about everything that was posted. If it says no solicitors, don't bother knocking, period. Those magaziner's are the worst!

We have the exact same sign also due to "religious bell ringers" and no we are not against any such group however when it becomes a habit weekly, never the same group and especially coming to your door ringing the bell on a Saturday morning at 7am or so, it becomes very annoying. I have tried everything from after saying I'm not interested slamming the door on them to actually sitting in front of my window where they can clearly see me and ignoring the doorbell to the point of my husband actually telling them off, nothing seems to stop it. At random it may be a salesperson but most of the time not the case. Just yesterday they actually pulled their car right in my driveway. I too would like to know if we are not using the correct sign to stop this, what sign is really out there to cover this type of problem?

To be honest now I'm scared. That "magaziner" that came to my condo today didn't have anything in his hand. NOTHING! No list of magazines he was selling, or anything to take down information if someone was interested. It's seriously scaring me a bit...

But back to the original subject... does anyone have a technique that has worked for them???
