When I was younger, I allowed them in and heard them out, however, I no longer feel the need to learn more about them. So I've got to think of a proper sign. I know what you mean. Where my parents live, they are the managers and we know the owner very well. I know she has a no soliciting policy and a no loitering policy. We have signs, but our own tenants don't listen and loiter and pee in front of the building (I am seriously ashamed to admit that). If we can't get the tenants to listen how in the world would we get solicitors to stop?
My friend did say something to me once about religious solicitors. His dad put a sign in front of his house that said "We're a happy catholic family." According to him, that stopped religious people from knocking on his door. Maybe something similar would work for you.
