Well I'm Mormon, so all we have to say to get rid of the JH's is "Thanks, but I'm Mormon" and they pretty much leave skid marks (no offense intended to the religion!).

We don't get rid of the Mormon missionaries when they come to the door LOL, but all you really have to do is say "No thank you, I'm really not interested." If it bothers you, I'd hang a sign on your door that *specifically* says "No Religious Missionaries" or something like that.

We live in a small town, and we really don't get many people knocking on our door that we don't know - salesmen and whatnot are once in a blue moon. So we usually just take the paper or whatever and off they go.

Did you ever get those people that sell cleaning products where they spray the stuff in their mouth to show you its safe? Then they try to guilt you into buying the stuff because if they weren't selling it they would be doing drugs on the street? Then they start cleaning your patio? LOL.

I need to make a sign: My front porch is not a store. And if you try anything, my angry little dog will get you.

Before I had the sign, that's what I did say. I really believe they know what the word means but choose to ignore it, and lie about it. I believe its wrong for them to say, they aren't solicitors. To solicit means to "approach with a request or plea", isn't that what they are doing? I really don't think I should have to put up a sign for every group, and one could haggle over the term "missionary", if one wanted to. Besides, there are not that many ready made signs, and I don't want to have a piece of paper on my door. I just believe that religious people should have the highest standards when attempting to win converts. I have a strong belief that God turns on a light when he's calling someone, and as Christians, our main job is to never extinguish that light. If I didn't feel like they were deceiving me, it wouldn't bother me, I would feel inconvenienced, instead of outraged.

I was sitting there eating a snack before going to my class in a gas station parking lot and this older guy knocked on my driver's side car window... scared the crap out of me. I rolled the window done a couple of inches just to see if he may have noticed something about my car that needed to be brought to my attention, and he handed me a little phamplet and started trying to talk to me. I told him I was in a hurry to get to class.

When I was in high school, there was one day a year that we would go around door to door asking for donations for our music program. We were dressed up in our concert attire and explained the benefits that we get from it. We would NEVER go to a door that said no solcitors and our directors warned us against that too.

See, and I don't mind when the local kids come around for various causes, and I love to support them and the school's efforts.

Your should let them come, take all their printed material and ask for extra to pass out to your friends. Post a NO TRESPASSING sign. Encourage them to come again and ask that they sent different people each time because you don't get much company....
Keep the pamphlets in a shoe box at the door. When you have a pretty good collection the next person that knocks at the door listen to them but keep looking nervously behind them, then ask them to hold on. Get your box, hand it to them and tell them to please take the collection and promptly leave. Explain that your collection was from those who didnt make it out of the yard after trespassing and you dont want the same thing to happen to them. Rush them and tell them that hubby will be back from the store any minute and its a good idea for them to leave, in a hurry.
I don't think they will be back but if they are it should only take a few instances to prevent it. If they report you to the police, they have admitted trespassing, deny the interaction and promptly press charges because they admitted to being on your property uninvited and the bonus is that with that story, they are obviously nuts! The pamphlets they say you gave them would all be theirs from the weeks of harassment and when you ask the officer why you would have so many of the same thing they were passing out he will see they are obviously telling a story.

Another idea. They have these cameras that hunters use in spaces they hunt to monitor deer activity. Post one at your front door and turn it on each night. The flash will blind them and you have a great picture of your knocker. Should scare them enough to not come back. If they do, start posting the pictures around supermarkets with WANTED for trespassing....the smaller the town, the quicker this will work. The darn things will flash and flash with movement every so many seconds. LOL

Wow, that's harsh. For the record, all you have to do to get rid of us bothersome JWs is this: Tell the next one that comes by your house to take down your name and house number and add you to the do not call list. We don't get paid to do this, we do it because we love other ppl. I understand that a lot of ppl don't agree with us, and may not understand why we do it. Also, if they come back after that, ask for their name and their elder's (preacher's) name and phone number. Inform them that you are going to call them to inform them that you are being harassed by said person. It will be taken care of, trust me. Also, if they come on your property when you have a no trepassing sign, call the police by all means if you want. We are told very clearly to NEVER go to a house with no trepassing sign, and that if we do, we do so at our own risk. They won't back us up when we do so. That being said, there are a few who decide to do things as they wish, and I apologize for their behavior. Just for the record, I've been coming here regularly for quite a while. My reply was not religious specific, I live on 3 acres of land with signs clearly posted and I get all groups and solicitors. I have told them not to return and the next week a van pulls up to the property line with more, heading for my door. Mostly, yes, they are religion oriented but not just JW, many diverse groups. I personally dont want anyone coming to my house to talk to me about what my beliefs should be. I am not misguided because I dont attend your worship. I simply do not want to be bothered in my home.

I apologize for that. I can't speak for other groups or religions, I just know how we are supposed to do things. For the record, I didn't mean to imply that anyone is misguided or wrong because of their religious or lack of religious beliefs. The only point of my post was to let people know what they can do if they don't want to be bothered by us. Once again, I do apologize if I offended anyone.

You say you do it because you love other people, but part of love is respect, and to me you are not respecting someone when you see a sign that says, "No Solicitors," and you choose to ignore it. I certainly don't feel the love, and frankly, I really don't want to call the elder.
