YT Addict | ![]() I tell everyone, there is all kinds of breeder, some that know they have mean dogs and still breed them. I don't care if they are tiny or champions or what her if they are not nice dogs with good personality they should never be breed!!!! But this is why you go to the breeder's and see her dogs if you have kids that them. See how their dog acts around you, your kid and the other dogs she has. If the dog is not good the puppy may not grow up to be a very nice dog. I have many Yorkie and Maltese and they are love each other and people of all ages. So it is not all Yorkies!!!!!!!!!!! Don't down the hole breed because someone did not do their homework when buying a puppy or did not train them!!!!!!!!!! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | ![]() If the terrier breed was bad my son would be torn to shreds. I always joke and say he is like Elmira from the looney tunes...loves his pups to death. Instead my pups will just go the other way when he gets to being too much for them. It comes down to the breeding and training of your dog.

| ![]() I too agree it is not the breed it is the owners not taking responsibility to train their dogs.... we have 2 dogs and everyone says "how do you guys always get such great dogs" well we work with them and they are well behaved...don't generalize or sterio type....my yorkie has never bitten anyone and she is very well behaved and sweet....I'm sorry about your son and i hope he is ok ...I know you are upset and frustrated right now but you must have liked something about your yorkie mix or you wouldn't have her and I know you love her as we all love ours because you refer to her as your baby..

| ![]() I am sorry about what happened to your son.. But PLEASE DO NOT BLAME THE BREED!! It is because the dog that your friend has is not well trained. It has nothing to do with the breed. My 3 girls are pure breed Yorkies and they are the sweetest, most gentle, most loving little ones. I am really offended that you blame the breed instead of looking deeper into this situation..

| ![]() It's really not the breed, but bad owners. Obviously he needs some serious training.

| ![]() ![]() But IMO the problem is not terriers (either a specific one or in general ) but your friends attitude towards training her dog. She didn't / doesn't bother to train her dog , she accepts his behavior as appropriate or just "terrier" behavior and lets him continue to act that way without any discipline ... so really what is the dog going to do? In reality most trained terriers of anykind ,be it Yorkie or mix , do not act that way . When I bought Sydney ( my first terrier mix ) I was told by my vet that terriers were a breed all their own ![]() So while I can see why you are upset (I would be LIVID also !!) Dont take it out on all terriers...yes ,they are a breed unto their own but with proper training they are wonderful pets ,but if left to their own devices and allowed full control , they will take it. I mean honestly , would she allow a large breed dog to act that way without trying to regain control? While a bite from a big dog would certainly do more harm , a small dog needs just as much training and decipline as a big dog.

Bailee was hardly any trouble to potty train(first few days were rocky) but within 2 weks she had it and is now reliable at 5 months! I taught her to sit stay and shake Wednesday. It's now friday and will do it for whomever asks her to now.She never barks, in fact I asked the vet to make sure her throat and all seemed normal because she never makes a sound. And as far as territorial? puhlease...shes the biggest cuddlebug in the world...although she does growl if she hears my roomate come in late...but thats a GOOD thing. Why would you come to a YORKIE forum and talk crap about them...that doesnt even make good sense!

| ![]() Wow Im sorry your son was bite , but i have to agree here with everyone else, I have 6 babies and NOT one MEAN one Most of us here have small children and grandkids and i have never heard of any real means ones, My babies dont even growl, Its all about the owners and how they rasie them, Just like any other breed, Its not there fault its lack of training and education on the owner IMHO ....

| ![]() Why does everyone always blame the dog or the dog breed. A good owner is what matters. I get so tired of blaiming the dog. IT IS AN ANIMAL. They need training. None of my terriers are like that at all. ![]()

To blame ALL terriers for being badly behaved, and terrible is not right. You were already having reservations about your friends dog, so I am very confused as to why you exposed your dog and small child to this situation? Going into their home , and having an idea as to what to expect, then something bad happens. As A parent often does, will place blame on anything and anyone when something happens to our kids. Yet it all could have been prevented in the first place. My Suzi is the most loving, friendly sweet Yorkie ever. However, I would not trust a little child to be around her , for fear of something like this happening. I am a bit confused as to why you would be a member on YT and not like the terrier breed? Does not make sense to me?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() I too am sorry your son was bitten, and I understand you are upset. Would you mind telling us, what you were hoping this thread would accomplish, or were you just angry? Are these people acting like their dog is better than yours or something, or putting her down because she's mixed? It sounds like someone has made you very defensive.

| ![]() It is obvious that the op was upset when she started this thread. I just wanted to add to the facts b/c I've had many an incidents with kids around Gucci and he's never ever snapped at any of them. As a matter of fact I keep kids away from him b/c when Gucci was about a year old a child kicked him so hard I swear I wanted to kick that child right back and worst the father who did absolutely nothing. Then there was this other kid who's mother insisted I let him pet my dog only to grab my dog's fur and yank at it. All my poor Gucci did was cry. THAT child too I wanted to slap across the face. I can go on and on about these cases and so after lesson much learnt and my poor Gucci now being petrified of these small people, I keep them away from him unless it's a "trusted" child. Also, Gucci doesn't like for other dogs to play with him or come near him and thus i do not bring him to anyone's home who have dogs of their own. Last edited by Guccimom; 02-02-2009 at 10:38 PM. |
