I'm sorry you had such a bad experience but to blame it on the breed or the dog is not the solution. If a dog acts like that then the owners are to blame.

Maybe you could give your friends some literature or videos from Victoria Stillwell or Caesar Milan that shows them how to turn their own and with that their dogs behavior around.

Just out of curiosity... why didn't you insist that your friends put their Yorkie back in the crate? Or if this was not an option, why didn't you leave?

Doesn't help that the owners are lazy as crap.

WOW This is Far from true.
Your making Statements This is just your opinion.

I don't see what Untrained has to do with Purebred dog's ANY dog can be untrained.
Since your dog is still a puppy there is no saying it just might Turn out to be uncontrollable.

Im sorry to hear about your son...but like the others have said, just because this dogs acts like that doesn't mean that they are all like that. We have 6 yorkies right now, 4 of them we show, and 2 children ages 5 and 3. None of my fur babies have EVER attempted to even growl at my children, they acctually are very protective of them, we even have one that sleeps in my childrens room at the door thinking she is protecting them. Do you have any other friends that have yorkies that you are around? I think that if you had the chance to be around another yorkie that was properly trained you would be surprised. Yorkies are very very smart, and very loyal.
Please dont let these possibly irresponsible people ( i say possibly cause I dont know them) ruin your opinion of this beautiful and loyal breed.

My Yorkies are both so sweet natured it's unbelievable. Matty's favorite place to be is sitting on Isaiah's lap (he's 9 months). She is in love with him. I think the fact that they are well bred is what makes them so sweet and endearing - a breeder who knew what she was doing.

Unhappy Not the BREEDS vault!

Sorry for the horrible experience you all encountered last night. I don't think that it is very fair though to blame all yorkies. I have three young granddaughters in my home daily (ages 6,4 years and 13months) My yorkies have been nothing but loving and playful with all three girls. They have to tolerate quite a bit with three little girls around them all day and they love playing with them and being pet by them. Again I am very sorry your little boy was bit, but it's not the fault of the BREED, it's the fault of the owners.
I hope your little one has a speedy recovery.

The "best" part?! THEY WANT TO BREED THIS DOG!!!!!!!! how can they BREED it when they can't even control HIM.

I am so sorry that happened to your son. I'd be beyond furious!

If this dog isn't neutered, that may explain (not excuse) his behavior. He probably saw your Reese as a possible lover and was guarding his girlfriend wannabe.

Ths scary thing is that if they do breed him, his behavior will likely get worse.

Technically, all dog bites should be reported. They are lucky you are a friend. Next time they could face a lawsuit.

Wow, I must be having a PMS day or something because this thread GREATLY offends me. Why would you come on to a YORKIE forum and start bashing the breed????? I have no sympathy for this situation. I would never take my boys (who are not untrained, humping, biting machines) into a situation where I was uncomfortable with someone else's dog. Sorry, but they shouldn't have to keep their dog crated, it's their house.

Sorry about your son but one could argue that you should not have allowed him to be anywhere near that dog if you were that worried about it.

So I don't get it then, why do you have your dog Reese then if terriers are so bad?? I think this thread is greatly offensive, not to me personally because I have the worlds best behaved yorkies ever, anyone who's met them can attest and to be honest I've only met one yorkie who was obnoxious and that's because the owner preferred to blame the dog/breed instead of themselves for lack of training. I have a friend who has 2 pugs that are a little rambunxious and they scare my babies, so as much as she asks me to bring them I politlely decline the invite and just go myself without my dogs. Even though she says oh I'll crate them up, I say then why do you need my dogs there if they can't all play? I would say your friends yorkie is NOT representative of yorkies or any little dog. Even a child if not disciplined can be devils spawn.

I'm almost afraid to say this but my 2 don't bark much at all. My collie barked more then both of my yorkies do.
But I would watch any dog with a young child I don't care what breed it is, or how big or little.
And yes this is Yorkie Talk so I think most of us love our yorkies.

If you don't like yorkies then why do you have one, mix or not? Your mixed breed is no better or worse than our purebreds. I'm sorry your kid was bitten by a horribly trained, uncontrolled dog, but don't blame the breed. It's the owners.

My Chip can get slightly territorial and he's not a huge fan of kids but he has been traumatized by children and provoked many times. I wouldn't like kids either if I had been through what he's been through. He has NEVER bitten anyone though and would not bite anyone because we don't allow it. My Smokey on the other hand loves everyone and only wants to give kisses and get lots of belly rubs. There is not a territorial, mean bone in that dogs body.

The problem with "terriers" is that because there are people out there that tell people like you and the general public "Oh they are territorial, it's in their nature blah blah blah" then the owners start making excuses for the dogs and spoil them and don't control them. They are also cute and so tiny that the owners don't take the time to train them like they would a big dog and forget the fact that a dog is a dog is a dog and they all need rules, boundaries, training, and discipline.

I 100% agree. Look, I have 4 "skin kids" so I've been there. You and only you have the power to control the situation you are put in. You should never have brought your dog to their house KNOWING that their dog was a terror. Second, why on earth did you bring your child? When you saw that their dog was let out of the crate, you should have said something or left. It's not their fault your child got bit, and it's not the dogs fault. Next time GET A BABYSITTER. Or stay home.

My girls are just so sweet...Penny being the first...she is more spoiled and territorial...not to the point of being dangerous.....We have had Jack Russells in the past...(and still have one)....they are just as sweet...I believe it is all in how they are raised.....But I am so very sorry your son was bitten....

I am sorry to hear that your son was bitten and your dog harrassed. I honestly wouldn't have taken my pup along. You know he is an intact pain in the a$$ so he would definitely harrass her. I would have let her stay home.

As for your little boy I hope it doesn't make him scared of dogs.

I do agree with the others on here that the terrier dislike is just a generalization. All breeds no matter what size can be dangerous. The generalization and singling out is not the best way to approach things.
