| ![]() Great Thread! Im called Laura and Im 22, my little angel is called Lucy (well duh!! ![]() Im kind of in limbo at the moment, I have just finished my degree in Chemistry and I have no idea what I want to do so I am doing extra hours at my part time job where I have been for 5 1/2 years, I work as a returns desk operator in a DIY store called B&Q, kinda like Home Depot in the UK (yes we wear orange aprons!) I have a fiancee called Joe, we have been together nearly 5 years and engaged for about 6 months. We go to Austria quite a lot and we went last September. Behind the hotel we usually stay in is a hill infront of a huge mountain and the hill has a tiny beautiful church on top. Every year we do the trip up to the church and light a candle then look at the view from the top. Well last year as we were looking at the view he gets down on one knee and proposes! Yay! Thats my Joe, soooooo romantic! ![]() ![]() I LOVE ALL animals and I cant imagine my life without them. As well as Joe's zoo, I have the Lucy, 2 budgies (small birds) 2 guinea pigs and a tortoise. I used to work at a riding stables and schooled a lot of horses which is a passion I have. I also got to look after a load of other animals incl goats, sheep, pigs, cows, chickens, geese, ducks and chipmunks. Once I left the stables, I worked for the RSPCA in Bristol for a while. I mostly worked with the small animals, but as a voulenteer I got to help with things like microchipping dogs and cats, baths and dog walking. I really loved it but had to give it up when exams came around. When I get a job and sort out a house etc then I hope to go back. For some reason animals just affect me more than people do. I love to dance all styles, I did 16 years of ballet but my faves are contempary and as a ballroom dance, salasa, although Joe has 2 left feet so that was fun trying to get him to salsa! I suppose though that the 1 thing anyone needs to know about me is that I love my Lucy. I would seriously do anything for her and I miss her whenever I am away from her. She is my angel ![]() |

| ![]() Wow what interesting stories. I haven't even read them all yet. To stay with the intention of the thread I will save all my positive remarks about this forum for a later thread. I am very uninteresting as compare to some of you all, unless you are deep into soap operas. I will keep it to the short version. After 3 failed marriages, I am living with my second ex-husband. I guess we were meant to be. He is a retired manufacturing plant manager. I am a retired cosmetologist / instructor. Too much hard work has brought my hands to give up the profession. I am 53 yrs old and feel every year of it. Hot flashes and weight gain have taken a toll on me the past few years. I have 2 grown children. son (34) near Chicago,Ill. Daughter (31) near Lima,Ohio. one grandson and 6 step grandchildren (all in Ohio). I moved south to join my husband after placing my mother in a nursing home. She was stricken with alzheimers disease. My siblings and I did our best to take care of her in her own home. I traveled 5 hrs one way every weekuntil I finially tired outand agreed to place her in an alzheimers unit. She lasted almost 3 yrs before she passed. With children gone & mother gone it left me empty. My husband and I were in persuit of the perfect pet for us. We were visiting my son while he was on duty with the air guards in Peoria, whenwe checked the paper for any listings of yorkies. That is when we found our first baby. He was 2 yrs old and looked like he needed more care than he was getting. I couldn't resist. Buckeye and I became very very close. My husband then realized if he was to have any chance of getting a yorkie on his lap he would have to get a second one. While visiting with family in Columbus, Ohio we again went to the newspaper and found a puppy. She was only 8 wks old. What a terror she was! At first I thought we had made a horrible mistake in getting a puppy. I was too old to go through this. I could not keep up. But as time passed and with the help of this forum she got better. She has turned one year old recently and I can't remember when she wasn't here. I love her very much. When she looks at me with love in her eyes I can't resist. Everything else is forgiven. My hobbies are crochet, crafts, golf and I guess about anything. I have so many interest. I am kind of like the person who has been there , done that and know just enought about the subject to be annoying. I am a very honest and nice person. Of course that is just my opinion. ![]()

| ![]() Wow - great thread - I have read every one of your stories and was totally consumed in trying to think about how it must be being you all ![]() You are all so very interesting and warm people and I am blessed to share this forum with you! My childhood was sad and lonely and though I don't mind sharing it, I myself feel it much more interesting to share the good stuff. I started educating as a psychotherapist 4 years ago when I was 34 - and as part of the education you have to go into therapy yourself. Even though I was reluctant, it would turn my life around and make me see that I had potential for being happy too and not just surviving. So after searching for the perfect man for a number of years, he found me! I lived in Copenhagen and he lived in Skagen and even though my mom had been on vacations in Skagen every year since she was a child and always babbled on about how beautyful the place was, I was not gonna live there. Or so I thought... My husband and I saw each other for the first time on January 25th 2003 - I went to see him in Skagen. (I thought it would be easier for me to go than to throw him out did I not like him). We spend a few hours together and none of us had any doubts. I stayed with him for a week and after the first 3 days we knew we were ment to be together, we had never had feelings like the ones we had together. He lived in a small house next to his parents and shared bath and kitchen with them, so I met my parents in law on the very first morning I had slept at his place. They were so nice, warm and loving. On april 24th he took me to see the sun rise over Grenen (the nothern top of Denmark) at 4am and just as the sun popped over the horizon he kneeled and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes ![]() Picture of Grenen: http://www.toppenafdanmark.dk/images...hjemmeside.jpg I stayed in Skagen for the summer and even though my dad got us an apartment in Copenhagen, we decided to stay in Skagen. It really is a beautiful town. Pictures of Skagen: http://www.skagen-tourist.dk/images/...hjemmeside.JPG http://www.cs.aau.dk/~marius/aalborg...skagen_org.jpg But my family in law was a very important reason for me to move to Skagen - in them I found the family I had always wanted, they are capable of true love and support. On the 6th of September 2003 we got married at the Hostel in Old Skagen (which my family in law built in 1930-something and owned until it was sold in 2004) Pictures of the wedding: http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/2...p/vedbilen.jpg http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/2...gespisning.jpg We decided to buy a house in Skagen and found a really lovely house that needed a BIG hand - so we live cheap and have lots to do for the next many, many years! We moved in on October 15th 2003. Picture of the house: http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/2...t03/udefra.jpg In the beginning of 2004 we talked a lot about wether we should have kids or not, but since we have met each other so late in life we feel we would rather spend our time together, so my husband suggested we get a dog and said he always wanted a yorkie (and I thought: A YORKIE!? That is an old peoples dog!) but we found Kali and we love her so much. Now we have 2 lovely girls! Picture of the girls: http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/2...nuttegrise.jpg I am on the extra education training to be psychotherapist for groups and families as well as couples and individuals and I finish that this december. This august I open up a new clinique together with an acupuncturist, a massuese and a zonetherapist - a House of Health - in the heart of Nothern Jutland ![]() Actually I am not a workaholic, so what I really like to do is cuddle up on the couch with my husband and talk about life, visit friends and take long walks in the beautiful nature here and be with my new family ![]() My husband is a commercial diver and he loves what he is doing and I love that he is able to do what he loves, as am I. I thought I was going to work with dysfuntional families as a therapist, but "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get": I was asked to do a course for overweight women in Skagen in fall of 2003 and it went well, except for the fact that the class was all about eating right and exercising - and for me, it looked like all the women already knew all about healthy food and exercise. So that wasn't what was wrong - something else was amiss. I took it upon me to find out what and now I run groups for overweight women here with focus on motivation and selfacceptance. It turned out that many of these women would always put everyone else before themselves and all they had time to do for themselves was stuff themselves with food =( Some of them were emotionally deprived and tried to repress feelings of low selfesteem, boredom and unworthyness by overeating. We work on that in a 10 month long course where they get grouptherapy and individual therapy and it works wonders for these women. Now someone further down south in Denmark has taken the method into use and it is slowly spreading - and I am so happy for all those women who has often tried to loose weight many many times and failed miserably because society and the media has fooled them to think that it was all about nutrition and exercise... That's a small view of my life - thank you all for sharing yours as well ![]()

| ![]() Hi, this has been very interesting. I don't post on here often, but I do enjoy the site. I am Carolyn, I am a retired Beautican, who married a TB race horse trainer and farmer 35 yrs ago. I am 56 yrs old and a farmers wife, Mother, Grandmother. I have helped farm, We raise Quarter Horses, and small breed dogs. We have three children, Tracee 33, biological, Shannan 30 adopted, Ryan 27 adopted. After having three pregnancies and only one live child , we decided to adopt. I have always been an animal lover, and a person who needs to be needed. My husband now is an oil field pumper and so is Tracee,She is her fathers son. We have shown our quarter horses all over parts of the US. Now I am giving my time to my dogs. Maggie Mae, yorkie , is a spoiled child , who everyone wants and adores. She kind of rules the house. My family is all in Ohio, so that part for me is lonesome. My husband doesn't really have any close family any more. All gone. I just had my hip replaced, and it is wonderful. My husband is getting ready to have his knee replaced. Modern medicine is great!

| ![]() Don't know how I missed this thread!!! I am Jodie, soon to be 45. I have been married for 25 years to Gerry and we have a son and daughter, Cory age 23 and Erika age 21. Both kids are still in college at Eastern Michigan University and just moved into an apartment together last month. Gerry is a Human Resource Director and I am a yoga & pilates instructor as well as coaching girl's High School swimming and I sing with a small group at my church. Sissy is my 1st yorkie and she has been wonderful in every way. We have another dog, Sheena, who is an Eskimo Spitz and 12 years old. She is definitely showing her age and is ornery. She does not play well with others and is not fond of Sissy. Although they no longer live with us, Erika has a 3 year old Ragdoll cat, Princess and Cory has a 1 year old tiger cat, Dexter. Once the kids graduate (hopefully, April 2007), we will most likely begin to look at relocating. Erika is a polynesian dancer who dreams of dancing professionally at a Luau on the Hawaiian Islands, although her major is literature and Spanish. Cory is majoring in Public Relations and he doesn't want to stay in Michigan either. We have really good friends in Carlsbad, CA and San Diego and love the entire area. Jobs for Gerry would be plentiful and as fitness is all the rage in CA, I shouldn't have a problem either. The rest of our families are not crazy about the idea, but with a major employment change for Gerry and two deaths in the family last year, we are ready to be some place with love and live every day to the fullest. I think Sissy would love to be a beach dog!! The photo was taken on our 25th anniversary mass where we renewed our vows May 23.

| ![]() Awesome thread! I'm Jim - half of Bailey's Peeps. The half that spends waaaaaaay to much time on YT! The other half is my wife Kathie. I'll be 63 in November and Kathie is .................... ageless! Both Kathie and I had been married before. We met on August 30, 1980 and were married on October 2, 1980. We were married 33 days and 2 hours after we met. It would have been about two weeks earlier, but it took a while to arrange a date for her brother (a pastor) to come from Indiana down to Oklahoma City to marry us, arrange a wedding reception, and get invitations out. Not the sort of whirlwind that I recommend to anyone, but we've survived our rash action for nearly 26 years and I'm more madly in love today than I have been any time in that 25 plus years. Kathie had two daughters when we met and I adopted them 6 months (to the day) after we married. That was great. While the judge handling the case didn't have to take their opinions into consideration (they were 6 and 10 years old at the time), we had a very solemn gathering in the Judge's chambers where he asked both of the girls to tell him how they felt about this change in their lives. It was quite a day. I've often said that everything good in my life has come through Kathie. Kathie, our daughters, our granddaughter - and now our Yorkie. Bailey was my mother's day present to Kathie this year. I work in accounting and some software consulting and Kathie is at home full time - a great thing for our new little furbaby. I have had several dogs in my life and loved them all. The first was a cocker spaniel who died when rushed into the street to attack a much bigger boxer who was chasing my younger brother - she was hit by a truck (actually an ice cream truck - I won't go into how long it was before I'd buy ice cream from one of those trucks). The last one before Bailey was a schnauzer. She was terminally ill with cancer and other problems when we put her to sleep in 1992. We had a friend who worked in a vet's office at that time. She came over to the house and gave Prissy her final shot while I sat on our patio holding her. After that, I just hadn't felt a strong urge to get another dog. Over a year ago, Kathie started saying she wanted a Yorkie. On May 4 of this year we met with a couple who had 4 Yorkie puppies ready to go to forever homes. There were 1 male and 3 females. The male and one female had been spoken for, but not actually selected (the other buyer of a female puppy was to meet them about two hours after us and select which puppy she wanted), so we actually got first choice. Kathie picked up one puppy and never put her down. She looked at the others, but she already had her baby. Our granddaughter was with us that day, and she agreed with Kathie. Bear this in mind - up until we arrive to look at the puppies, I was just getting a puppy for Kathie. I wasn't against the idea, but I wasn't eager to get one, either. By the time we had been there 15 minutes, I was trying to figure out a way to pay for both of the little girls that were available. We couldn't, but I was already hooked. As I said earlier, I've love my other dogs - but there is something different about this little girl. Since then, my wife is quick to point out that I'm the one who has gone completely bananas over this little furball. I'd argue, but it's pretty foolish to argue with the truth when it's so obvious. Bailey has completely turned our lives upside down, and we wouldn't have it any other way. I'm looking forward to getting another little yorkie girl as soon as possible. |

| ![]() OOOOO I love this thread!!! Ok, here goes me: I'm known on here as Frodo's mom/sukj12, but my friends and family call me Jaime. I'm 25 and I'm a graduate student at Boston College in their Graduate School of Social Work. I just finished my first year of grad school, and I have one more year left. I also work full-time (for the summer) as a Case Manager for a Head Start program. I moved here to Boston last August, so I've been here almost a year - it's hard to believe! I was born and raised in Southern California, went to college at UC Irvine, spent a year working, moved to Buffalo for a year, and then came here for school. So far, I LOVE the Boston area and I've met some wonderful people. I'm learning to speak Bostonian .... cah, hahvad, pawk, etc. Frodo is almost 8 months now. I got him when he was 11 weeks old and so he's been here with me since January. He is a special little guy! I had been contemplating getting a dog as I missed our dog from home (all of my family's in california), but I wasn't sure how it would work out with living in an apartment and with school. In December, I flew home for Christmas and my mom encouraged me to get a dog if I could. So I did some research on breeders after Christmas and I started to plan for puppy-proofing my apartment (making sure, of course, the landlord was ok wkith animals - thank goodness she was!!), and the rest is really history. Frodo was born on Halloween of last year - lol no wonder why he's such a terror! In my spare time, I'm an avid reader (I majored in English in my undergrad), I love baseball, I love to run, shop, and just relax with Frodo. Walks around the reservoir are our favorite! Keep the posts coming, this is a great thread!

| ![]() Wow, you guys are all so interesting. Fast Eddie, Thanks for the forum. My name is Michelle. I am going to be 45 soon. I have a wonderful husband, one daughter Stephanie (25)(she is getting married on the 4th of July) and One granddaughter Aria (4). During the day I am the operations manager for a company that sells audio, video and lighting solutions for churches. During the evenings I make and sell Bows on my website. I also am attending school to get my CIW certification (so that I can program the web site my self). My husband and I like to stay home. He works in the garage where he is renovating a 1985 4-runner. He spends the rest of his time asking me how to post pictures of his latest work on his favorite forum "pirate4x4.com" My dh tried not to like Katy, but she would have not part of that. I think sometimes she spends more time in the garage than the house. I love reading about everyone here. Mary Ellen-Great Thread! Last edited by Katys mom; 06-18-2006 at 07:02 PM. |

| ![]() I'm so glad this thread was discovered, and wish I had read it before. Yorkietalk is a great site, and I enjoy spending time here. Thanks Fast Eddie! You can see by my join date, that I found Yorkietalk in November of 2005. Before then, I wouldn't have had the time to even think about being on a forum like this. I'm 40 (yikes) and have recently turned my life upside down. ![]() I got married to a wonderful guy when we were both 20 (we recently celebrated our 20th anniversary!), and seven years later opened my own business. While it became successful (after the initial struggle), I realize now that all of my best memories are of the first 7 years of my marriage, because everyday after that became about the business...I don't think I relaxed, I mean really relaxed the entire time. A few years back, I lost my shihtzu girl who had joined our family shortly after hubby and I were married. I was devastated, but realized I didn't have the time or mental capacity to deal with a puppy. When I started to finally want to get one, I was amazed at the fact that nearly 2 years had gone by...where were all the days going? I decided to make a change, and we began by looking for my girl. Hubby was worried she'd be ignored (I often left the house before 6 am and arrived home 8 pm or later), so I promised I would take her to the office with me AND enroll in training classes. I began to take time to enjoy little things, like walking Ginger in the middle of the day (all those years before Ginger I only remember taking an actual lunch break twice!), taking a break and playing with her in the office, and joining a training class. This was October 2004. Did you ever take a deep breath in the middle of an overwhelming situation? Ginger was my deep breath. I began to look at my life, and realized I needed a change. Talked to hubby (who has always been incredibly supportive) and we decided to sell the business. Well it took us until October 2005. You can see by my join date, that I found Yorkietalk shortly thereafter! I've enrolled in school full-time and am pursuing a lifelong dream. Because of my previous college credits, I will be graduating in June 2007. I'll be 41. My life is so much more well-rounded now. I'm making friends (before, all of my "social" contacts had been employees and customers...) I'm getting to know my neighbors, reconnecting with my husband, and working part-time. My mixed-breed (who is now 15, we think) is having a much better life. He was always well-cared for, but I've found extra energy to spend on him and he seems 5 years younger. He even tries to play with Ginger. Of course, Ginger can no longer go with me to the "office" (my classes & part-time job), but I still make her and my other animals a priority and we spend lots of time together. So, if I seem incredibly devoted to my girl, I am. And I'm grateful to Yorkietalk for being there for me when I found myself at home with no place I needed to be in November/December (b-4 starting back to school). I feel like I'm back! Those of you who made it through this lengthy post, thanks for sticking with it! I've enjoyed reading everyone's post, many of the names are familiar and it's great to learn more about the faces behind the "names".
