Awesome thread!
I'm Jim - half of Bailey's Peeps. The half that spends waaaaaaay to much time on YT! The other half is my wife Kathie. I'll be 63 in November and Kathie is .................... ageless!
Both Kathie and I had been married before. We met on August 30, 1980 and were married on October 2, 1980. We were married 33 days and 2 hours after we met. It would have been about two weeks earlier, but it took a while to arrange a date for her brother (a pastor) to come from Indiana down to Oklahoma City to marry us, arrange a wedding reception, and get invitations out. Not the sort of whirlwind that I recommend to anyone, but we've survived our rash action for nearly 26 years and I'm more madly in love today than I have been any time in that 25 plus years. Kathie had two daughters when we met and I adopted them 6 months (to the day) after we married. That was great. While the judge handling the case didn't have to take their opinions into consideration (they were 6 and 10 years old at the time), we had a very solemn gathering in the Judge's chambers where he asked both of the girls to tell him how they felt about this change in their lives. It was quite a day. I've often said that everything good in my life has come through Kathie. Kathie, our daughters, our granddaughter - and now our Yorkie. Bailey was my mother's day present to Kathie this year.
I work in accounting and some software consulting and Kathie is at home full time - a great thing for our new little furbaby.
I have had several dogs in my life and loved them all. The first was a cocker spaniel who died when rushed into the street to attack a much bigger boxer who was chasing my younger brother - she was hit by a truck (actually an ice cream truck - I won't go into how long it was before I'd buy ice cream from one of those trucks). The last one before Bailey was a schnauzer. She was terminally ill with cancer and other problems when we put her to sleep in 1992. We had a friend who worked in a vet's office at that time. She came over to the house and gave Prissy her final shot while I sat on our patio holding her. After that, I just hadn't felt a strong urge to get another dog.
Over a year ago, Kathie started saying she wanted a Yorkie. On May 4 of this year we met with a couple who had 4 Yorkie puppies ready to go to forever homes. There were 1 male and 3 females. The male and one female had been spoken for, but not actually selected (the other buyer of a female puppy was to meet them about two hours after us and select which puppy she wanted), so we actually got first choice. Kathie picked up one puppy and never put her down. She looked at the others, but she already had her baby. Our granddaughter was with us that day, and she agreed with Kathie.
Bear this in mind - up until we arrive to look at the puppies, I was just getting a puppy for Kathie. I wasn't against the idea, but I wasn't eager to get one, either. By the time we had been there 15 minutes, I was trying to figure out a way to pay for both of the little girls that were available. We couldn't, but I was already hooked. As I said earlier, I've love my other dogs - but there is something different about this little girl.
Since then, my wife is quick to point out that I'm the one who has gone completely bananas over this little furball. I'd argue, but it's pretty foolish to argue with the truth when it's so obvious. Bailey has completely turned our lives upside down, and we wouldn't have it any other way. I'm looking forward to getting another little yorkie girl as soon as possible. |
