Donating YT 11K Club Member | OMG Bikram Yoga! I took my first class of Bikram Yoga today, which is basically hot yoga if you never heard of it and omg what is intense and HOT!! It felt like it was 200 degrees, everyone was dripping sweat. I think i lost like 1000 calories LOL But i do feel better afterwards and i stretched a lot, but you have to hold hard poses and that is what is hard. I would def. reccomend if you want something intense. I did reg. yoga before but its not the same lol

| How many different yogas are there? I had no idea. My gym offers Flow Yoga but someone said I should try a more basic one first. Any thoughts?

Donating YT 11K Club Member | idk how many there are lol i've never heard of flow yoga. Maybe you can take one class of basic yoga first to see how you like it, or just jump right into it and take the begginner class. The class i took today, there were like 5 new ppl and the teacher told us to observe the other students, she didnt expect too much and if its your first time they shouldnt so its okay

The names you will hear most are Bikram, Anusara, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Power and Vinyasa Flow. All yoga is intended to be done in a warm room. Bikram just takes this to the extreme with temps intended to be 115-120 degrees with 98-100% humidity. The theory is the intense heat/humidity helps loosen you up even more. I would not recommend starting yoga in a flowing class as you need to learn the poses before you can flow with them. In this form, it is usually one breath to each movement. Whatever form of yoga you are doing, the most important thing to keep in mind is your breath. Yoga is all about the quality of your breath, keeping it long, steady and under control (and always in and out through the NOSE). If you are doing any kind of yoga with an out of control breath, you are raising your heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels. If your breath gets out of control, you need to rest in child pose until you feel like you can breath with control again. Keep resting as much as you need. Many folks think that slower moving yoga is too simple, but holding poses for many breaths is actually very intense. You also do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Your flexibility will increase if you keep at it. Some poses require a very open bone structure - which has nothing to do with flexibility. You shouldn't see these in a normal yoga class, though as they are extreme. Any yoga is good yoga!!!!!!!!!

| LOVE Yoga I've been taking yoga for 2 years now. I could probably do it every day but when would I get cardio? Cardio makes my head sweat and I don't like that but I do sweat in yoga too, just not as much. The 90 minute long classes give you time to focus on your body, time to develop and hold poses to build strength and time to breathe, and then time to meditate. Take your time getting used to the class and you will be surprised by the strength and flexibility you develop. Namaste...
