We actually have one of those little snuggle puppies with the heat and heartbeat inside, on it's way for Emma. Winston'sMom was kind enough to want to share a gift with Emma and this is what we've chosen! I'm positive that Emma will really benefit from having it.... :) Have to get around and ready to go in to the vet this morning.... will post once I find out what's going to happen! Thank you for your continued concern!! |

Have a safe vet visit. I have to take someone to soccer practice in a bit, so I'll check back in around noon. (((HUG))) |

Wow! What an amazing & generous person you are! If only there were more people in this world like you. I pray that lil' Emma thrives in your care, and that she is able to possibly get it corrected and live a happy healthy life. Good luck and keep us all posted on the status. Thinking of you both... |
I was out early this morning volunteering for the United Way "backpack stuffing" Anyway I was thinking of Emma first thing this morning! I hope you are back soon to give us an update on how it went at the "Dogtors" today. Maybe you can make some tiny cone forher to wear during the time she's most supervised. I know how much she squirms and wiggles lol ((hugs)) Genie,Cookie,Lola, Angel & Lucky |

Also...all the rubbing of her face and nose as she crawls around aimlessly may be a contributing factor of the stitches not holding. This is one lucky puppy to have found you Dena. I hope and pray your vet can once again put this precious little girl's nose back together and it heals with out any more problems. |
Emma is back on live feed...we will probably get an update soon. |
Great job resticting her area, Dena. Hopefully this will keep her from traveling so far. She will probably still do laps around her smaller space, but at least she won't have far to go. |
4 Attachment(s) Hi you guys.... Well.... another hard morning for lil' face over here..... but - the dogtors got her fixed back up as best they could. It was a little tougher than the first time since they had less to work with... so her lil' nose is still going to be pretty "off" and she'll probably always have a lil' crooked smile... but hopefully, once this all heals, she'll still have enough "room" in there to create a functional nasal airway. It wasn't as much of a traumatic experience for her as last time I don't think... still painful.... still scary for her.... still very stressful - - - but at least the palate is still in tact, so they didn't have to do any adjustments there. She's home, (as you can see if you've stopped in to visit her) - fed... and resting. I was so sleepy this morning when I weighed her, that I forgot to weigh her BEFORE her feeding, rather than right after..... so... when I did weigh her - minutes after she fed... she was still at 92 grams. I weighed her just after returning from the vet's and BEFORE feeding.... and she's down to a pitiful 88 grams. I left her with my room mate and went back to talk to the doc again. He says that the trauma and stress is playing hell on her right now.... (of course, I understand that) - - - I showed him a printed out copy of the recipe for the high calorie formula recommended here and told him that this is what I was considering switching her to. Nope, nope, nope - he said..... absolutely NO adjustments in diet at this point.... <<sigh>> So... she is still getting the formula, the STAT, and small amounts of fiji water when she doesn't take enough of the other... (just to keep her hydrated and her wound clean.) Oh, and I CAN give her a little plain yogurt!! (for the live cultures) and continue giving her the BeneBac He said that in the weeks to come, I may be able to change her diet, but for now - - no changes... not even minimal... Stools are watery since we returned home..... stress and upset, I know.... so I'm hoping by this evening that will get better. THANK YOU for the tips and suggestions.... I have since "revamped" Emma's "space" and have allowed her only a third of the space she originally had - as instructed per previous posts.... (made a "wall" from a large rubbermaid tub and covered it with her blankies) - - - I don't know why I wasn't thinking about this before... of course, it makes absolute perfect sense... As for a collar to keep her from rubbing..... no luck with that concept.... the nurses and I actually tried to fashion something useful but even with constant supervision, it's just too dangerous.... so we'll just have to hope. My GOSH this child goes through a lot of laundry!!! hahaha.... I have EIGHT of those lil' pink and yellow flowered blankets you see on the cam.... EIGHT!!! And these are the last two clean ones!!! Those, along with all of her receiving blankets, washcloths, burp towels..... man oh man............... EVERYTHING needs washing!! And I.... need a NAP!!!! ;) I don't have any Dreft soap so I need to make a dash to the store........ thanks for keeping up with us!!! <<big hugs>> Oh... here are today's photos of her.... the job is not as aligned as the first time, but again.... less to work with.... (I still think she's beautiful...) :) |
She is such a beautiful girl! And active right now! My daughter is 6 and she keeps saying mom what is emma doing now? Thank God for angels on earth like you to care for baby emma....:mademyday |
I COMMEND YOU for all the loving and tender nurturing you are providing for baby Emma (Lil Punkin Butt). You have the most GIGANTIC HEART! Without you we all know where she would be right now. So , I hope others will join me in giving you a SUPER HUGE GIGANTIC group HUG. You so deserve it!! Baby Emma is such an adorable , sweet little doll. All thanks to YOU! I hope she continues to improve by leaps and bounds. I'm sure Emma's journey is going to be tiring and expensive (but so worth it). I know I for one would love to help in anyway I can. If a baby Emma fund comes about you can be sure to count me in. :) Continued prayers and blessings for you and Emma. BTW: Is she back to bottle feeding or are you going to let her heal some first? |

I've not tried her on the bottle again.... Doc says she should do fine with it, but I can see that just the syringe is a little painful for her, so we're not going to risk any further uncomfort or damage.... I think the dropper and the syringe are what I'll stick with for a while. |
Emma is still as beautiful as she can be:). You are the perfect Mommy for her. I can't wait to see her with her cuddle buddy. |
I'm watching Emma on the live feed and it seems like she's rubbing her face on one of her blankets. Does that mean her stiches or something are bothering her? Or is she just being her wiggly self? |
Oh what a relief Baby Emma is home safe and sound with you, and, just as perfect as ever I see!! Thank you so much for posting pics of Punkin Butt for us to see, I know how tired you are and to take pics through all of this for us to see is so very thoughtful of you. I think it's also a good idea to restrict her space for the time being, I don't know why we never thought of that before either. Hopefully they didn't use desolvable stitches this time and these ones will stay intact better. Did they have to re-cut her? Oh I hope they numbed her. I think I'd stick with the syringe and dropper for a while to, give this a chance to start healing together, she'll do just fine. Did she need any kind of antibiotics? Poor Emma has been through so much in her short lil life, hopefully from here on out it'll get easier for her. I'm so hoping and praying she starts to gain weight, even just a gram is such a huge accomplishment for her. Off to take a peak at Sweet Lil Baby Emma, thank you so much for the update and I hope you're getting some much needed rest. Oh and glad the vet said it was ok for her to have the yogurt with live cultures, anything that can help put the good stuff back into her right now will help. Many, many thoughts and prayers going up for the both of you!! |

Yay they were able to get her fixed up again! Even if it's not as good as it was before, she still looks like a perfect little angel. |
Thanks for the update...I'll be praying for her to gain some weight. I'm sure it's all the stress but in the days to come she will relax and start gaining I'm sure. She's such a doll face. I'm off to go peek at her on the webcam. Get some rest Dena, you must be so exhausted. You are an angel that's for sure. |
Emma looks so comfy and content!!! Her mommy is taking such good care of her. Thanks for keeping us updated! |
:nursing: HANG IN THERE, DENA AND LIL EMMA! |
DENA Please take a look at this idea. I tried it 3 Attachment(s) it may or may not help Emma but I thought it may help as soon as this nipple fits in her mouth..Iwas going to send you a PM but I cant add the pictures : Aww Dena , I cant imagine girl how you are feeling without much sleep. I dont function well at all whenI don't get sleep so I imagine u :( This is something I read online and I tried it and the nipple stays put! You know those puppy bottles that they sell at Petco with several different nipples included? Well you can put the smallest nipple right over the syringe tip and it will stay! I cut a X with small scissors on the nipple . This way you can use the nipple in the puppy's mouth PLUS you can slowly squeeze the syringe. So even if she's not sucking enough, the milk will still come out in small drops as you push the syringe. Take a look at the pics. I use the free Syringe I got from Wallgreens Pharmacy. Thanks Genie! I saw that trick somewhere too.... online... here in the thread... heck, maybe it was you who told me about it!! haha.... :confuse2: When she would take the bottle, I'd work kinda' the same way by squeezing the bottle at the same time she'd try to suckle.... I'll give this a try.... it's time for her feeding (if I can force her awake!!) ;) So I'll let you know how she does with it!! :) |
Love the out to lunch sign! Too sweet. I hope she feeds well.;) |
Thank You Genie!!!!!!!!!! :happyboun:happyboun:happyboun DING DING DING!!!!!!! And we HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!! :yay_jump: :woof: :cheer: Genie, I can't thank you enough!!! SHE TOOK IT!!! SHE LIKED IT!!! :Puppy2: She still acts like her mouth is very tender... but you're right... she hardly has to suckle at all with this!! Still gets the benefit of working those muscles and proper formation - - but I push the syringe when she starts to suckle... and it works beautifully!!! She took about 2 cc's earlier this evening with just the syringe - so I was thrilled with that.... but it took forever and she got so tired and had to stop in between. This nipple / syringe combo is PERFECT!!! She took another 2 cc's in just a few minutes and fell right back to sleep!! :) I think we're on a little roll here guys.... THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! Stools are still loose tonight - - and her lil' bum is raw from the diarreah so I have some A&D ointment on hand that I'm using for that... (hope that's alright to use!) Looks like it's helping a little already... Praying we have some good days ahead for baby Emma!!! :hands: |

A pouch sounds like a great idea!! The only thing is, that I don't want to restrict her movement any more than I have - because all of the wiggling, rolling and moving about is important to help keep her little heart strong and her lungs clear.... especially with so much risk of aspiration pneumonia. The excercise that she gets, along with my "beating" her chest after feedings - will HOPEFULLY minimize those risks. Since she already has a compromised immune system - I just want to help keep her as strong as she can be in the event she has to fight off some kind of infection from the surgery, pneumonia, sinus infection, etc. Guess in order to improve one aspect... we sometimes hinder another.... :( |
The vet told me to use anything that will make a protective coating on her bum...He suggested using Original Desitin. It is reall think and sticks well. It should help. She doesn't have a Mom that is licking her BUM so....LOL |

And Dena, you've probably restricted her space enough not to worry with the pouch. I didn't find this forum until Z was eight weeks old. I was literally on my own, no extra brains helping me devise cool things like this. (not entirely true, I took a bottle nipple, inserted a plastic catheter through the hole in the tip, and using a straw as an applicator tip, squeezed some clear silicone in the tip of the nipple to hold the catheter in place. After it was cured, I sterilized it, screwed it on the end of the syringe, and fed him. It worked, but he ended up having to switch to tube feeding like the next day.) |
What an amazing difference surgery and plenty love made...she is adorable and I am rooting for her...she is a "special one" !!! :) |
