Z's nasal passage is completely open to his mouth. I can see tiny openings into his sinuses. Anything that goes into his mouth is also in his nose. I have pulled SO much stuff out of there, including a feather that was making him sneeze continuously, LOL.
The only problem we've had with that is the chronic sinus infection. He has been on an antibiotic off and on for his whole life. (fourteen weeks)

And, I have to tell you, you are doing a fabulous job! Keep up the good work.
PS, it wasn't my plan to keep Zacchie, either. But whatcha gonna do?

Oh Dena, I am so sorry this has happened with Baby Emma tonight. My heart breaks for her. She's a fighter though, she can do this, I know she can. God didn't bring her this far to not keep her going. If I were you, I'd let the surgeons fix her to. I hope she'll be ok till the morning when the vet can see her again. Saying tons and tons of prayers. I love you Miss Baby Emma, you fight and keep on fighting, don't give up, we won't let you!! Hang in there Dena, I know it's hard, but with all the prayers and love, you, God and Baby Emma can do this together.

Well, I won't lie, I've wondered, off and on if I've done the best thing, but I think we have done what was best for him. It just might not be what's best for Emma. You have to make that call. But don't think you won't be second guessing yourself all the way.
You are doing fine so far. I think that for anyone doing something so difficult, it would be like flying in the dark. Feel your way through, don't rush into anything, and you will make it in the end.
And BTW, it took a while to find the right tool to keep Z's cleft free of debris. Know what it is? An artist paint brush. Just the right softness, but gets all the way in there and sweeps anything out.

Wondered the same thing, but vet told me to keep it on anyway. I think we had it on until he was six weeks old, or so. I'll have to go back and read my posts to see if I mentioned it. I don't remember if I did.

Awww, Dena, you helped make her the angel she is. I wish I had that live cam so she could say hello. Thank you for my baby. I always think how lucky I am to have her. She's such a joy and so much personality in that little body. She gives my big Lexie a run for her money, and she and Molly are the best of friends. Thank you again! You're doing the same for Emma. You're sooo selfless.

the live cam is a fantastic idea! shes so precious you're an amazing person for putting your heart into making sure little emma is happy and healthy

Aweee, that was so sweet of you to say Dena. I if I lived in the same state as you, I'd be there in a jiffy! Sweet live Baby Emma would be so covered in kisses, but knowing you and the big heart you have, I bet she's been covered at least a dozen times in kisses already, lol. She's such a precious sweetheart, I just know she can do this, she's a fighter!! When Maggy May came to us and she was so bad sick, our vet pegged her as a fighter right off the bat. When he tried to check her, she wiggled and jiggled all over the place and just wanted out of his hands, but Gibbs on the other hand was very weak and couldn't even put up a fight or struggle to get lose from the docs hands. Each time I go to the live feed and peek in on Punkin Butt (sorry, hope you don't mind me calling her that, she's just so darn adorable I can't help but call her cute lil names) it makes my heart smile so big and wide to see her squirming all over the place. I know she's got a long road ahead of her, but I believe with all my heart she can do this. She's in the very capable hands of you and God, if God didn't think you could handle this, he wouldn't have placed her in your life. I'm so tickled to hear she didn't lose any weight, that's FABULOUS news!! I'm off to have a lil peek at her, I was in earlier but she was out to lunch. Boy she's sure captured many hearts far and wide hasn't she? Sending tons of love and prayers your way and up to heaven that God keeps her going strong. Please tuck some very special kisses behind her ears for me.

I had a little yorkie born like that, she didn't have a cleft pallet, it was a hair lip. She stayed tiny, but very healthey. Good Luck!

Just to let you know....

It is hare lip instead of hair lip. The reason is because of the way a bunny lip is made. There is a difinite 'split' in the bunny face, like the cute image I am posting below.

It is actually not properly referred to as a hare lip anymore, but as a cleft lip. Just wanted to let you know (and everyone reading the thread) that may not know.

I am glad your baby was healthy.

Good morning, Dena. I've been watching Emma live, and remembering how much Zacchie moved around when he was that little. I think that if there is a way, you might restrict her movement, or at least space. All of Z's littermates were very sedentary, and they piled on the weight. I think that helps, because all the moving around is burning calories.
Perhaps if you could rig up something soft with a heat source inside it that ticks like a loud clock, or has a sound like a heartbeat she might snuggle up with it and stay there for a bit.
