Shwew, boy did I need that sleep, was up till I can't even remember what time watching Baby Emma. I feel for you Dena, I know you're up and down like a yo-yo right now with her feedings, I hope you're getting enough sleep there to keep you going, can't have you getting sick, all us YTers will have to come hunt you down and take care of you;) I wasn't sure if it was normal for the furbabies to lose a lil after they were born or not, I was kinda hoping t was the norm. What does the vet say about her weight loss? I hope she starts gaining soon, she's already so tiny. I had found a recipe on here a long time ago that a gentlemen was feeding a very tiny baby chi, he actually raised sheppherds but a lady contacted him very frantic about a newborn baby chi she had and it wasn't thriving, was losing weight and she couldn't get weight back on it. Her vet suggested a certain formula and that's what she stuck with and the baby still wasn't gaining weight. She found this guys site, he was in the same state and she edned up taking the baby chi to him. He started it on the homemade formula he gave his sheps when he had problems and the baby chi started gaining and thriving like you wouldn't believe. I've been searching through my favorites trying to find that link and still haven't found it yet, if come across it, I'll post it for you, it may be the same ingredients someone here had given you already. The only thing that worries me is messing with her food to much, she's so young and doesn't need any other issues to overcome at this point. Well, I'm off to take a peak at Baby Emma on the live feed. Please give her gentle hugs and kisses from me. |
Hugs and kisses for Emma from me too!!!! If no one else has said this, Breny your a god send too!! Helping Mom2BabyNatalie by sharing your experiences, THANKS FOR HELPING EMMA THRIVE! I wish I could do more than just cheer on the sideline and send prayers.... |

I am so sorry!! Poor Emma!   |
:angel:Your an angel!...my prayers are with you and your new little baby |
1 Attachment(s) You can tell it bothers her when she starts doin' the face rub in the blankies...... Mannnnnnnnnn................ she's going to have to go through that whole thing all over again!!!!!! I feel so bad for her..... :( I don't know how to keep her from rubbing like that though when she gets it repaired..... I can't imagine having to use one of those ... what are they called?? E collars??? on such a little girl... she'd strangle herself!! Man, man, man........ :*( |
Ugh.... so I called a friend who works for a vet... (different one, not Emma's) and she says that best case scenario is they re-do it w/ "better reinforcement" and she does fine.... Worst case.... they re-do it AND surgically implant a feeding tube into her stomach so nothing has to pass through her mouth... better chance of healing. :( :( :( :( :( :( |
:cry8: She's so little, I feel so bad for her having to go through that. We'll pray for the best outcome |
I looked as best as I could without hurting her... she's so very tender and cries now when I touch her mouth.... but it looks like the palate is still in tact.... thank God!!! |
poor baby!! hope all goes well tomorrow at the vet. hope you get some rest! bless you and baby Emma! |
You know..... now that I think about it.... wasn't it kind of silly of them to use absorbable stitches in her MOUTH??? Wouldn't they ABSORB much quicker... (like before healing ever took place) if they were wet all the time??? (well, obviously, the answer is YES).... Now I'm kinda' ticked.... Well, maybe that means they can just repair it with "better reinforcement" ("real" stitches) like my friend said..... and she'll be alright... Still hate that she has to endure that again. Please say some prayers..... |
I am going to read all the replies to this thread, but I wanted to save a little time and quick answer you first. I have a cleft puppy named Zaccheus I rescued at five days old. He's a Yorkie. I would be happy to help you with any questions you have. Feel free to PM me. Just know that this is a HUGE undertaking, and not for the faint hearted. You need to feed that puppy every hour, and I don't mean an hour after you end a feeding. Feed EVERY HOUR, ON THE HOUR, EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU HAVE ONLY A TWENTY MINUTE BREAK. Sounds like this one is the same size my little Z was when I got him. Put her in a small basin, on top of a heating blanket covered with a baby blanket or small towel. Then drape another baby blanket or towel loosely over the pup. Put a heating lamp about four feet above the basin. Your hand hovering just over the pup, but under the light should feel very warm, but not hot enough to burn. Do this right away. If your baby does not wake up often enough to feed every hour, wake her up. I kept Zacchie in a pouch next to my heart off and on to keep him stimulated. You can do this. It is a lot of work, and you will literally be weeping with exhaustion by the time you are out of the woods, but if you have the time to put into it, you will reap the benefits. I couldn't love my Z more if he was my human child. |

Awww poor baby Emma. I hope they can repair it without causing more pain to her. Poor baby... But gosh Dena...she looks great. Your doing an awesome job! Keep your spirits up girl (I know is easier said than done) Emma is gonna pull through all this!!!! |
I hope they can do something tomorrow. Is there anything at all that you could put for the pain. Iguess I'm grasping at straws here because even Oragel Orajel...might get into her tongue... Keep us posted tomorrw. I will check in the afternoon :( I have to be out tomorrow by 8 am . Praying everything goes well again ((hugs)) Genie |
Darn, I just hate that it is hurting her. I wish she could just have a restful night and have it looked at in the morning. Poor darling. |

You can tell in the live stream that she's getting hungry... I need to feed her, but I'm sooooooooo afraid of making it worse.... It was one thing to feed her with it in the beginning... but now, of course, in order to "put her little face together", they cut and sliced so as to have clean cuts which would heal together properly.... so it's open wounds at this point..... scares me. :( |
Even like this she HAS to eat. I know you would be extremely careful. But she deffinately cant wait till morning. I need to sign off. This is the longest Ive had YT site open! night!! and Keep us posted Genie |
Yep, she was hugry... lol Took 10 minutes and she had 3/10 cc STAT - 1 cc of her formula... and when I was rinsing her mouth, she started lapping up the water, so I went ahead and let her have a cc of fiji water. (I hope water is okay for her!) Hopefully she'll sleep now.... poor baby... :( Awwwww, you should see her..... sneeked up under her "Flamingo Mama" for a nap. :) |
Water is okay, but I wouldn't recommend much of it until she is two weeks old. But right now, anything you can get into her is good. I caught up on everything everyone said, speed reading. Do you have any questions before I hit the sack? |

Thank you so much for your comments and your concern.... I did read all through little Zacchie's story when I first brought Emma home.... brought tears to my eyes and smiles to my face all at the same time!! He is such a strong beautiful boy!!! When I was little we had a pup named Zaccheus as well...... "you come down from there right now!!"..... haha.... Thank you once more for your kindness..... please say a little prayer for Emma. :) Kisses to Z!! |
I'm afraid if I had read all this a few days ago, my advice would have been to snatch Emma from the docs and run, don't walk away. She should not have had surgery, in my opinion. I wouldn't have known that when Z was E's size, but now I can help others with what I've learned. My advice to you is to let her heal from what's been done, but NO MORE SURGERY. She will learn to suck and swallow just the way she is. She doesn't know she's different. You may have to tube her for a while. I had to do it too, but we made it. |
When she is about a year old and fully developed, you may opt for surgery, but until her mouth finishes growing, it will continue to change. Going through surgery is very traumatic and to have it not succede would be almost tragic. My vet is a surgeon, and completely agrees. |

I don't know.... I think we're already in it this far, I need to let the surgeon take care of her..... |

When I was feeding Z, I really had to squeeze the puppy bottle I used to administer the formula. he never sucked, only swallowed. And, like Emma and Tia, he never had his mother's milk. So her not being able to suck is not a problem, and if she can't swallow, you're going to have to resort to tubing. |

Oh... also, it's not so much her mouth that we're concerned with... I mean, sure - if she can form her mouth properly to suckle better... that's great... but the palate is repaired and her tongue is just fine, so she could still nurse without dealing with the lip problem.... but it's her nasal passage that he wants to repair... right now, it's wide open - no protection.... once he "put her together" we were waiting for that to heal so he could then create the nasal passage, etc. |

I will be praying for her and you. You just keep on doing what you are doing.....which is the best you can for that baby. I have the utmost confidence in you. God has equipped you because He has called you to it. I believe this with my whole heart. :love-hug3 :luvu: |
I will praying for you two tonight:hands::hands::hands: |
Thank you ladies..... for everything......... :ghug: |
