| I know nothing about pet health issues, but if she were a human behaving this way, I feel that some type of brain scans would be in order. Her behavior is so erratic that her little brain may be involved. i don't mean to scare you. I know you have probably imagined the worst and are prepared to deal with whatever the vet finds. My best to you. |

| Ok please I am a bit confused about Dixie. How long have you had Dixie?? I really cant believe they didnt give her anything for anxiety. I have a quick story to tell about my dog Zeke. He is 13 and we have had him since he was a pup. He is a beagle. He has never bitten anyone so I was so shocked when my husband went near him and bit him so hard 2 times ( my husband did not touch him at all)!!! They were very deep wounds. To this day we have no clue what happened!!! The vet asked us if we made a quick move or was he in paIN. i WAS THINKING THAT HE HAD SOME TYPE OF PAIN THAt the vet and us didnt know about. He has not bitten anyone since and its been a year. I think we never can fully understand our animals.. Just like people we can also be unpredictable. I hope you can work with her. | Hello All, Good God, I love my little Dixie. She is my life. NO one is sadder or is trying harder to figure this out than I am. I chose Dixie over a relationship if that tells you how much I love her and how much this is breaking my heart and spirit. SO, I WANT YOU ALL TO STOP WORRYING FOR THE DURATION ABOUT MY PUTTING HER TO SLEEP!!! The moment that possibility comes to mind, I burst into tears cause I cannot even THINK LIKE THAT--I just cant. But I do want to straighten out something. There is no rescue group or anyone else who could do better with Dixie that I could or am doing. I am financially extremely sound, retired, middle aged, single, private home and RV (which I Purchased only so I would never have to leave Dixie in a kennel or even with a trusted friend--I WANT HER WITH ME). love her more than I can say and well, if she cannot make it with me, she cannot make it anywhere--that is clear to all the professionals I have spoken with. Giving her to any rescue group would destroy my life--I simply could NOT LIVE WITH THAT because I know, KNOW that the care she is getting with me cannot be beaten. So that is out of the question. Let's hope that whatever it is that is setting her off so badly eventually has a solution. UPdate: I took her to my vet today who did agree that things have gotten so out of control within Dixie that bloodwork is needed. She still believes that it will show nothing and that is strictly behavioral but now she agrees that we have to RULE OUT since this is day four of her Cujo-like behavior--AND I AM NOT KIDDING. She is basically testing Dixie's liver as I know that Yorkies, particularly at the very age Dixie is, sometimes have this genetic liver shunt problem and this can cause exactly what is happening to Dixie. She doesn't think that this is so with Dixie but she is testing for this and a few other key things that could cause this horrendous and miserable change in her. Tomorrow, I am seeing a VET-behaviorist, a very rare combo. I am driving 70 miles to this place and paying $250 for an hour of her time. I have filled out eight pages of questions already and faxed them to this woman. My vet is faxing the blood results to this other VET who is also a behaviorist and well, I have my fingers crossed and my prayers to the heavens (and I am not even rellgious)that something, someone, somehow will be able to help my little girl. Is this the behavior of a woman who is even thinking of putting her glorious Yorkie down? Of course not!! I am digging in and preparing to do whatever it takes to get my pet back, to get my little love back to the happy and unfearful companion she was, JUST LAST WEEK. Damn. My vet and I are thinking that it might be something in this house that is spooking her--but I guess we will never know. The moment I get her out the front door of this house she is much better. So many clues to her GOOD behaviors and hardly any to the negative ones--making me nuts. Anyway, tomorrow Dixie and I are seeing this Vet-behaviorist and between all of us, I am hoping beyond hope that Dixie will be able to return to the little pooch I had before. I she doesn't, I don't know how we are going to continue to live like this--I want to travel and be able to trust her and mostly, I want my loving companion back. I am completely destroyed over this but just a little hopeful that this woman tomorrow will have some ideas. I will keep you all as much in the Dixie Loop as I can along the way. This is too sad for words. If someone will give me directions I will post a pic of this totally gorgeous beauty who was bred for show. nite all, Daawg |

| My guess, you say you've had her since she was 3 months old. My questions did this behavior start now. If it is traumatic from her past it would have manifested sooner but if it started recent find out what has happened to her, who comes in contact with her, groomer, etc. because she definitely has some issues. On the other hand whenever medication is given like Prozac she needs to be followed up with the vet, it is very important because of the titration in doses, same as for us folks. Please be patient with her.

| Thanks so much for your reply. I am already being very patient with her and why wouldn't I be? She has been my baby since I got her in S.Carolina; hence, the name 'Dixie'. Yes, I know about follow up with drugs--and would always do that. She hasn't come in contact with anyone different at all or any new animals. She and I live alone and I am extremely protective of her. Gosh, how I have wracked my brain to try and understand what is making her so fearful that all she does is growl, snarl and attack ME. And make no bones about it--it is in this house ONLY and with ME only. I will find out much more tomorrow when I see the vet-behaviorist--I HOPE, I HOPE. THANKS AGAIN for your suggestions. Do you know how I can get Dixiei's photo on my responses? I have four photos of her in the gallery but dont know how to put one by all of my responses. Nite and thanks. |

| first off, i just want to say that i'm very proud of you for putting up with this. i'm sure its hard as i've gone through similar things with a cat i own. second, keep your head up, this can't last for ever. i'm sure shes going to come out of this at some point. think long and hard about ANYTHING thats changed reciently. if she gets better when you take her out of the house, then take her out more! i'm definaltly not an expert by any means, but i'm sure things will get better. GOOD LUCK!! keep us posted please! |

This is so sad, my heart is broken for you. For this to come on so suddenly it just seems that something has to be hurting her or scaring her? Could she have something going on inside that even bloodwork won't show? Pain of some sort? I mean if she was always cranky then that would be a different story. It's just weird. Keep us posted. | |

| I went back and read your posts. I wonder if (as an experiment) you might start the day off differently. If she is happy and playful skip a day of grooming, take a walk, just cuddle, give her a new toy....whatever. See if you can make the good mood last. |

| Hi and Welcome to yorkie Talk. I am glad you found us and hve shared your story. Your Dixie is a real doll. It is no wonder you love her so much! I hope the vet/behaviorist can help her. Sounds like the Dog Whisperer we have here in California. In fact maybe if you contacted his show he would help you since your case seems so unusual. It is worth a shot. I am perplexed as to what may be going on with her. Can you contact the breeder and see if any of her other "relatives" have this problem and if anyone has found a solution if so. Ther emay someone out there who has had a similar experience and found a solution. I hope you find some answers tomorrow and I will check back to see how she is doing. |

| She is a beauty. I wish you all the luck tomorrow. You sound like a great mom that is willing to do what ever to help your furbaby. Hang in there you will get your sweet baby back.

| im so sorry that this is happening to you and dixie, i can tell you love her lots and am trying your hardest to find out what it could be. hope im wrong but could she have some kind of brain storm just before this happens as she is her normal self before one of these episodes. i think you are very good mummy and if nothing can be done for your baby (hope there is) then the most unselfish and kindest thing you can do is put her to sleep. i know thats not what you want and i pray you dont have too but i can see your only thinking of dixie and thats what makes you a great mummy wendy and rosie |
