| Beaker scared me last night! This is the very second time this has happened, except last night was not as bad as the first time... has this ever happened to your dog, and if so do you know what it is....i can only think that it has something to do with being hypoglycemic, not sure..... Beaker sleeping next to me like every night was all good, at one point this morning I was wanting to move being uncomfortable, so as I proceeded, its like as if beaker went into shock or something from being moveed, i was only moveing him so i didnt scwoosh him.... with all four legs all spraled out, they were straight and stiff and he was peeing out of controll on the bed and him self.. its like he had a stroke or heartattack or somthing... well it only took me a few mins of rubbing him to make him back to normal...though he seemed weak to stand... so i made sure to give him so karo syrup mixed with water.... he seems perfectly normal this morning... the last time this happened...i thought my dog was close to death... i had to rub him for a good 15 mins or so, with his hole body so stiff and cold, and eyes rolled back into his head, i thought he was a gonner for sure... but i thank god i was able to nurse him back to full life..... very scary and i dont like it.... never did think it would happen again... any suggestions on this or has any one had it happen to them... please let me know.. thanks all... | I don't know for sure, but it sounds the way hypoclycemic events have been described on this site before. A vet can tell you for sure, but he's still a real small one isn't he? Sometimes the smaller pups have a harder time keeping their sugar levels up from what I've heard. Luca Dean was 3.5 when we got him 3 weeks ago and is up to 4 lbs now, and I've had no trouble, but I feed him about 3x a day and have sometimes put kayro in his water. In your case, I would consider giving nutrical, especially before bedtime, so his sugar doesn't drop during the night. If it passed and he seems okay now, that's a very good sign. Puppy kisses to Beaker Boy! |

WOW! The situations you described are really frightening to me. Could you please answer these questions to give all of us a better understanding of what is going on if it is hypoclycemia there may be some things you could be doing to prevent it, but it is hard to give suggestions without all the information. So, here are some handy dandy questions..ha ha :-) 1. How old is your baby? 2. What is the feeding schedule and what brands of food do you use? Thanks, Annie and Tinkie

beaker will be 4 months on the 2 or feb, he is very small almost a pound and a half.... i feed him about 3 to 4 times a day depending on how much he eats at a time, cause he is very small and needs to gain weight... i feed him purina small bites puppy chow..... and i will mix a little soft food with it each morning... he has a hard time eating hard food and that is why i mix some soft food with it... so if you do have any thing you can telll me thanks so much....

Sounds like your little one is VERY little :-) Okay, this is what I was told to do when I brought Tinkie home and it has worked like a charm, "KNOCK ON WOOD!" ha ha I was told that food should be available all the time, I don't resistric food and I won't till Tinkie is 1 yr. old or if she gets too plump or something. She is perfect weight and she eats whenever she wants. I know this may seem to be a little un orthodox, but Tinkie has a large dog sized metal crate, which I clean twice a day. At night I clean it, put in fresh bedding and fresh food/water. At night I give her dry food and a little plate of canned food (about two tablespoons) she doesn't like it cold so I heat it up. Then I put her to bed. She gets up at night to eat and when she is let out in the morning she is ready to go potty. She will be easy to train to go potty outside when the weather is warmer cause now she waits till she is out of her crate to potty. In the morning I clean and do everything again, fresh everything and her door is always open when she is out so she can go in and eat anytime she wants. Tinkie is active and eats a LOT! But, she isn't even close to being fat. She gets Eukanuba (MS?) dry and wet food right now. I heard that the food you use for your dog is pretty good. What kind of canned food do you use? I wonder if you might want to consider having a better quality wet available more often? Tinkie so far hasn't had any problems with low blood sugar, I think cause she gets food anytime she wants and especially at night when she needs a little snacky. I know I break a LOT of rules of training by the schedule I have for Tinkie and many might not agree with my schedule. But, Tinkie is healthy and active! I wish you the best of luck and pleeeeaaase update me on the status of your baby...I am worried too! Thanks,

thank you so much for being concerned.... and for helpful info... i do already have a huge dog crate that actually that i have for my boxer puppy, and there is always dry food left in there and the door is always open.... its really cute when i catch beaker in there eating with trigger...i guess your right on the eating factor... i should just let him eat the dry food when ever.... the wet food i only feed to him once in the morning and once at night...i would do the sleeping thing in the cage at night but only thing is that the cage is the punish place for my boxer, and somtimes for beaker.... and the dogs have been sleeping with me and hubby in bed sence the day we brought them home... so now i have put dry food outside of the cage also... so its in the cage and out... so both dogs are free to eat dry when they want... thanks again.... and i will be bringing beaker to the vet with in the next week or so, so i will also metion this to the vet....

| Having a little one myself (she is now 3.9lbs at over 6 months but at the age of your baby, was probably the same as yours) - I have never had problems with her like you describe. You've been given loads of good advice but honestly I would be at the vets as soon as possible - all the very best, your vet can carry out tests etc. Ana xx |

| Hey again :-) Yes, please keep me posted on what the vet says! I think you're right about it being too traumatic for baby to be taken out of your bed, since that has been the routine the whole time. I bet the vet will have some really good ideas for you. Good luck and keep us posted :-) Annie and Tinkie |
