| Smokie is a healthy 10.5 lb dude. The vet said he is a very good looking Yorkie, and in doing some research, his coloring and markings are perfect for a Yorkie. Some males will be larger in weight, and possibly by a couple inches over females - per what I read. I dearly love my 10.5 lb Yorkie and he makes every day a fun day for me. I've had dogs before, but owning a Yorkie is a new experience! Don't worry. A 10 lb Yorkie is not uncommon. Reva - Smokie's mama |

| I am glad to hear of the many Yorkie owners that have dogs that weigh over 7 (and oftern 10) pounds. Gunner is gorgeous and gets all kinds of complements. Some people who have only seen the small ones ask "IF" he's a Yorkie and I proudly say YES! He's perfect for us! We don't regret getting him one iota! |

| yes I get that too where people don't think my little girl is a full yorkie because of her size, so I try to educate them that yorkies come in all sizes..lol

| My Yorkie, Maximus, is almost 14lbs. He's not fat, he's just bigger than most. My mom's Yorkie, Belle, is over 14lbs, but she's a little on the chunky side too. |

| I am a small breeder and have been breeding for several years. I was surpirsed at how a pair of Yorkies could have so many different size puppies. Now this is my opinion, I don't believe that any breeder can say what size the puppies will be from a pair of Yorkies. An example: I have a 4-1/2 pd. female breeding with a 4-1/2 pd. male. Both are wonderful Yorkies with great traits, but, some of their litters have one Yorkie Puppie which ends up 9 or 10 pds. and one or two puppies that end up 3 to 4 pds. and of course some around 5 to 7 lbs.. Usually I can tell after about 8 weeks the sizes they will end up. I love all of my Yorkies, but I do not breed the larger Yorkies or allow the small female Yorkies to breed. |

| I have brothers who are 12 pounds each and also have big, floppy ears. Their parents were both tiny but GrandPa or GrandMa must have been a hulk. :-) They're both perfectly proportioned and, like yours, not fat at all. I've read that the big ones tend to be somewhat healthier but don't know that for a fact. Mine have always been the picture of health.

| We were talking about sizes of Yorkies. I was saying that even though the yorkies I breed are small, sometimes I do end up with some larger yorkies. You would think that possibly their grandparents are larger, etc. or that possibly the blood line is actually larger, but my yorkies that I breed are champion blood lines - actually I have the sons of two well known champions that are also smaller and from reputable breeders as well...but I still end up with some larger yorkies. I believe the 7 lb. size as a standard is so incorrect. What it actually causes many breeders to do is breed small yorkies that are from 4 to 6 lbs only - trying to stay under the 7 lb. standard. I actually believe that the larger yorkies are absolutely beautiful! Our all around family yorkie is 9 lbs. and runs the house and all the other yorkies in the home. |
