I also want to add that show breeders get a bad rep for being harsh and mean and it may be true in some cases but i have really seen a change here on YT and there have been a lot of show breeders and breeders in genreal trying to help educate people and for that i think it makes you all great and a knotch above the rest so thank you all... I have learned a lot on this thread as well as others i love the aspect of showing i think it is amazing to see all these beautiful dogs! |

I like you prefer the showing over the breeding....Whelping a litter is not my favorite thing to do, I just hate the possibility of something going wrong. Since showing I've learned more about the breed, than having my nose in a book studying and attending classes........The standard only explains so much, it doesn't explain, correct lay back, correct gait, single tracking, correct undercarriage, rear angulation......how to spot a yorkie that is to close in the rear, or wide in the front...... |

You know to be honest here, I have to bite my tongue alot and remember that some you just can't educate but I love seeing those that want to learn learn. The post I entered just before this one was nice about hobby breeders but in reality and this is just me I would prefer if you breed showing and knowing the breed standard and breeding to better the breed goes together. If I could just wiggle my nose for a show puppy that's what I'd do LOL. Whelping is not my fav either and showing does so much more in knowing what is wrong and right with a dog! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

OK, here's the thing......I love showing, it's a passion. But, in order to get show dogs you have to breed, that is unless you have unlimited funds to keep on buying those show dogs. And then there is those very strict contracts that go along with each show dog. Then there is that bit of ego that comes into play when you breed your first home bred Champion. Believe me there is nothing like that feeling you get when you begin winning from the Bred By Exhibitor Class. |

Nothing you can do about it LOL...just another day at the dog show! All the complaining will fall on deaf ears anyway and it's over and done with! I know my dog is the one I want to take home with me anyway! LOL Not to say I don't get pissed at the shows but ka sa ra sa ra LOL Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

Then there is the anger you feel when you get beat by an obviously inferior dog....that you hold in until you are in the car or in your hotel room. |

In my opinion show breeders work hard at what they do to try and improve the breed we all love so much and if sometimes we get passionate about it in the way we express our feelings don't take it as being a hard butt. There is alot of blood sweat and tears that go into breeding that great speciman you want to take in the ring and to see our breed or any other breed respresented less than the best is not taken lightly! Show breeders are very passionate and we think everyone else should be also. As with human children you expect the best for them and show breeders are the same with their breedings! all this talk about showing is getting me anxious to find a show in my area to go to and start taking notes! I am excited! Hehe.... |

Showing and breeding go hand in hand to represent the breed to it's fullist whether it be yorkies or any other breed. To understand why a show breeder gets alittle testy is because some think it's easy just to breed and that's it. To understand the breed you have to know the standard and to know the standard showing a dog really helps you understand why the standard is there. Then you have health issues and a show breeder wants to make sure their breedings are free of the health issues to be able to show and breed the best of the best. It takes alot to breed dogs and to know it is too get in there and do whatever it takes to achieve it. Showing is part of it! Again JMHO! :) Donna |
...kk... Im looking on the info dog website you guys suggested but i need some help here... If it says for example:silky terrier club or golden retriever club ect. Then it is ONLY that breed that will be shown there? And if it says something like "san gabriel valley kennel club" then there will be all different types of breeds??? Also, the what does it mean when it says "closing" is that the last day you can register if you wanted to enter your dog??? I know these probably seem like really stupid questions but this is all so new to me... hehe.... |
