ok my opinion on this is, like mealot of people love love love yorkies and just want one they can afford to bring into their home. if you find a breeder get to know them get to know the dogs talk to their vets and try to make sure your puppy is the best you think it can be without being akc why not breed it.
there are tons of people out there that want a yorkie to love for life with or without flaws. and really money shouldnt be a factor but it is for alot of people. for me i wanted to breed lacey so i could give a puppy to my parents and sister, i knew when i got her she isnt akc and my family knows IF i decide to breed her their dogs wont be eather, but i still have looked into health and temperment on laceys parents and grandparents ect.. and knew the breeder for a couple years before i got her. i found with akc breeders it was really hard to find one that would allow me to breed even once to share with my family if i chose to. i wanted akc but to get one to breed seemed nearly impossable. also i hear alot on yt go to dog shows get to know the breeders, where i live there really arent alot of dog shows to go to so unless i travel out of state i cant attend dog shows.

Very unusual, because of the AKC rules they could be within their rights only to allow dogs in that are entered. I have witnessed them go around the grooming set ups and check, as well as checking with spectators.

I dont think it was a question of akc or not... There are tons of akc registred pups that do not meet the standard... It isnt hard to find an akc registerd pup with full breeding rights, the hard part is finding a "show quality" pup...

Ben was born in 1865 and was the one who started the yorkie as we know it today. check the birthdate on each.

this was before i knew about yt... it really wasnt easy to find a female puppy that had full breeding rights with a breeder that i felt comfy with unless you have alot of money. almost everyone i talked to wanted extra for breeding rights. really what i dont understand is if a dog isnt of show quality then why do breeders want extra for breeding rights. like i said for me i only wanted to breed once and if thnigs went well i wanted to give my parents a puppy and if there was more then one my sister. but the breeders that i talked to that had females wanted extra or said no the puppy has to be or already was spayed. i really wanted to be a responsible yorkie mom and get one that was akc so i would feel better about breeding it i would at least know all lines were clean. eather way i got lacey who isnt akc but in my eyes is perfect and we know she is healthy so for me thats really all that counts. i still dont know for sure if i will ever breed her because i love her so much and dont know if i want to take that chance. now that i have found YT i know there are breeders out there that are willing to work with others i may have just had really bad timing and luck when i was looking.

Yeah i was kindof surprised but happy that I could take Lacy with me since I was going to be there all day.

The website for the show was www.reliantdogshows.com and I looked in the FAQ section http://www.reliantdogshows.com/faq.html and it said this:

May I bring my dog?

The competitions are only for dogs that have been pre-entered. If you are coming to receive an ILP certificate, you must bring the dog. You may also bring your dog for special fittings of canine sportswear or collars. We do not offer any "social" activities for family pets so do not expect to find the equivalent of a dog park. If you do bring your pet, we ask that he be at least 6 months old; have all of the the proper vaccinations; and be under control at all times.



So most shows don't allow spectators to bring their pets?

Only the dogs that are being shown are actually approved to enter the exhibitors buildings. Often exhibitors will bring dogs and puppies theyre not showing (crated) to ready them for the ring side noises or to have other exhibitors evaluate their pup or puppies.

Reasoning behind "no pets allowed" is because of health and welfare of the exhibitors dogs. Family pets, large and small are not often used to the chaos, some can insight bad behavior, some can bring in health problems.

This being said, every show Ive attended or particapted in Ive not seen pets banned or asked to leave.

The vendors, exhibitors and show rings were all in one large building - just spread out over a large space. There were several dogs there that weren't being shown or entered in other events like agility or obedience. I was with a group of four women and we had 5 yorkies total and we weren't stopped from taking them anywhere. We had them with us while walking through the vendors, had them with us ring-side, and walked through all the exhibitors with them. Maybe this doesn't happen at every show but it did at this one

What do they mean by "rare gold" is that the redish gold??

Just got in. In one way or another they all go back to him but since he was born in 1865 that's a long way back.

One of the more recent but good old lines you might look for in a pedigree would be the Wildwier Kennels of Leslie Gordon Jr and Janet E Bennett....I think one of these women is deceased but not sure which one.

Ms Bennett is the one that is deceased. The Sisters were at the forefront of establishing the Yorkshire Terrier as it is today. They bothed worked hard for the breed and the establishment of the YTCA

What Janet is describing are terms used by breeders geared toward the unsuspecting public to obtain big $$$$$$$$ for those yorkies that have coats other than what is described in the standard. Don't read into it anymore that what it is and advertising ploy.

Years ago so many talked about the quality of the gold breaking on a pup and not as much the steel blue on the body as I remember anyway and I thought people were calling a fad color of gold 'rare gold'. I pretty much question anything with that four letter word in front of it.;) except maybe antiques (like me):D

How do you fell about parti colored yorkies?

Well, since you asked...I think they're very cute, and I love to look at pictures of the different coat patterns. There are members on YT that have some very pretty partis. They are a disqualified color though so I don't think they should intentionally be bred. But if one happens to show up in a litter, it should be spayed/neutered and placed in a wonderful pet home. I wouldn't be opposed though to the Partis becoming their own breed like the Biewers or even becoming American-bred Biewers or something. I just hate to see the Yorkshire Terrier deviate from the traditional colors. I think those that are passionate about the alternate colors should work to make them their own breed if they want them recognized. I just don't see the YTCA ever allowing Partis or other colors to be shown.

So then how are others supposed to get into breeding if the show breeders insist that the ones they sell be spayed or neutered, because they are not show quality. I believe that is the point that Co-yorkie-momma is getting at when she said they are between a rock and a hard place.

Cant wait to get my magazine!! Janet is so knowledgeble and has wonderful dogs. I bet some of the "old time breeder/exhibitors" that worked so hard at this breed are spinning in their graves and all these designer colors being purposely produced.

But the thing is, there are a lot of breeder (not show breeders) that are purposely breeding Partis right now. So if all of those breeder that are breeding partis work to form a standard like the Biewers did, then you could create your own Club and potentially have them recognized as their own breed.

Yup that is what I get out of the conversation also.

It appears to me that many, not all, show breeders have the attitude that the rest of us lowly people are not fit to be breeders. And they aren't about to let the rest of us in to thier clique.

Yes Jeannie that was the point I tried to make. I dont understand how it is bettering the breed to breed for your next show dog and spaying or neurtering all of the rest of the dogs in the litter that are up to standard and some would even be considered show quality too. If the dogs are unable to breed, how do you better the breed with them?????
I know it is about protecting the lines and not letting them get in the hands of unethical breeders and I understand that.

I don't think they have the attitude that others aren't fit to be breeders. It's that they LOVE their breed and want to breed to the highest standard possible.
