Ha I had someone ask me today if my yorkies were miniatures. when I told her there were no miniatures she said yes there are, there are teacups and miniatures.

She is not just a teacup, she is a super duper, micro mini, extra tiny teacup. She is 1 year old and weighs only 2 oz.

No that isn't a super duper, micro mini, extra tiny teacup...that is what my breeder calls a dinky do nothing.

Isn't that sad...$10,000 for a puppy that should be placed in a very knowledgable home......better yet, the breeder should keep it and not attempt to sell heartache.

The Chihuahua club of Canda is hoping to close the door to merle Chi's. The Pug Club of Canada is scrambling to close to the door to 'rare' brindle pugs.
Why? Because it is not a correct colour and long time fanciers have insisted that these colours never existed in the breed they are the result of crossing.
I know of someone trying to miniaturize Shar Peis. I found an ad where this person was looking for a sharpei pug cross that looked like a small sharpei. To do what was that with?
About 30 years ago a breeder was trying to introduce black and white German short haired pointers which is a wrong colour and can occur in a breeding but not desirable. The GSP breeders certainly put a stop to that quick enough.
there are enough breeds around that come in all colours, if that is what strikes your eye, go for it. Why damage a nice purebred breed like the elegant Yorkie? Or go to crossbreeds, you can breed anything you want if you do that nobody will care.

the tri colored yorkies are beautiful dogs. What is wrong with developing them into a breed of their own? Who is it hurting? The beautiful elegant traditional yorkie will not be changed. What is wrong with the two colors coexisting?

True there are many breeds that are already tri coliored, but they don't have the yorkie coat or the yorkie persoanlity. There is more to a yorkie than it's color.

They cannot be developed into a breed of their own unless people like me are willing to stand up to the ridicule of people like you. So here we are.

What you yourself is doing is being done with a purpose. However, what is being said is that their are others that are capitalizing on this type of breeding. I've seen the websites and ads of other parti breeders selling them as rare yorkies for $5,000. Now tell me that isn't greed and not in it for the God Almightly greenback.

Yes that does seem to me to be a bit greedy, but there are waiting lists from some breeders, and I would not buy from just any breeder. I'm sure there are many of them that are actually mixed breeds that are being passed of as parti colored yorkies. That is why I bought freom a breeder who knew where hers had come from.

Some of the ads are from breeders I recognize from various forums, though not on a personal basis.

My gosh, I've not paid that much for my show dogs that have unbroken Championed 10 generations plus from top kennels and yet these people are selling these dogs that can't be AKC championed for that price.

Has anyone ever studied yorkie genetics? The true yorkie does not carry the piebald gene. The only way they could have gotten it was through mix breeding.(probably maltese or shih-tzu) This, no doubt, happen generations ago and would be extremely difficult to trace. There was a show breeder that got piebald puppies and after thinking about it, determined there was a mix in the pedigree and had the dogs spayed and neutered. Its funny that 99.9 percent of the show breeders do not come up with color faults, and its mostly the back yard breeders that do. To the person who has Nikko everywhere in the pedigree: Did you personally get the dog from Gloria Lipman? I have never heard of Nikko producing odd colored puppies. I have never heard a bad thing about that kennel. Ever hear about unethical breeders switching AKC papers before AKC Limited registration came out? That was a common occurance. And then there are the byb's with 2 or more different breeds. Oops, the male Maltese bred the Yorkie. I will register them all as Yorkies. No one will know and they will all be sold with AKC papers and breeding rights. This was a common occurence not that many years ago. And I wonder where that piebald gene came from 10 years later??? And you wonder why the show breeders wont sell puppies unless they are on AKC Limited/spay/neuter contracts. The show breedes are the ones that put their blood, sweat and tears into every litter. They were the ones footing the bill for research to battle genetic problems. The show breeders are the ones giving 100%, 24/7, 365 days per year. They are always reading and up-dating their knowlege with the only goal of betterment for the breed. The back yard breeders are only riding on the show breeders coat tails.

I dont hink you opened anything. It's your opinion and you have a right to voice it. We can all read it and take what we want out of it.

I personally still believe noone can prove the pie bald cannot show up in a Standard Yorkie whose lines can be traced to the utmost. The reason I believe this is noone knows the dogs used to create the First Yorkies to begin with and they cannot do DNA on them as many of those breed are extinct. Just my opinion though. Please don't try and change mine as I dont try and change anyones either. I respect all opinions and find all theories very interesting.

No I have not studying the gene myself but i have read people in the genetics fields thougths on it. There are 2 theories...... 1 it exists in Standard Yorkies, and the other it doesn't.

The mixing makes the most sense to me so far as the parti-yorkies. I've always thought they looked like they had a yorkie face with shih tzu coloring. In fact, when I was describing them to someone I said they remind me of a shih tzu.

So far as the blondes and chocolates, I can see that happening as it's really just a mild variation in the yorkie's true colors. The chocolate is a dilution.

But anyway, without a lot of knowledge on the matter, I've always suspected the partis started with some kind of mix a really long long time ago.
